Morning Wire XX
[0] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.
[1] It's Wednesday, November 1st, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] Hundreds of civilians gathered today on the Gaza side of the Rafa border to cross into Egypt.
[3] These are the first to make it out of Gaza since the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7th.
[4] This comes as Israeli ground troops have pushed deeper into the Gaza Strip over the past few days.
[5] A growing array of Israeli units have also joined the fight, including naval and air forces.
[6] The Israel Defense Force has two objectives as it enters the region.
[7] Release all hostages and destroy Hamas.
[8] A Cornell University student was arrested Tuesday after allegedly making extremely violent threats against the school's Jewish community on an online forum.
[9] Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has more.
[10] According to the U .S. Attorney's Office in the Northern District of New York, 21 -year -old Patrick Die is now in custody and charged with posting threats to kill or injure another.
[11] Die allegedly made several posts that threatened extreme violence, such as mass shootings and rape, toward Cornell's Jewish students.
[12] The incident has shocked and rattled the campus' Jewish community.
[13] Here are two students expressing their concern.
[14] How can you think about your classes or anything?
[15] It seems so mundane when your life is literally being threatened.
[16] My family last night, we had a discussion whether it's safe for me to be on campus or whether I should come back home.
[17] Die faces a maximum of five years in prison, a $250 ,000 fine, and three years of supervised release if convicted.
[18] One man has died and another remains trapped after a closed -down coal plant in Kentucky collapsed last night.
[19] Officials say two workers had been clearing all machinery from the building and preparing the Martin Mine Prep Plant for demolition.
[20] That's when the 11 -story building collapsed, trapping the two men.
[21] Kentucky Governor Andy Bashir confirmed on social media this morning that one of the men trapped in the building's debris had died.
[22] Bashir also declared a state of emergency earlier today and told Kentuckians to prepare for the worst in this tragic incident.
[23] Donald Trump's eldest sons, Don Jr. and Eric Trump are set to take the stand this week in New York Attorney General Letitia James fraud case against the former president.
[24] Donald Trump Jr. testified in court today.
[25] James alleges in her suit.
[26] that Trump and his sons, who took over the business, exaggerated his wealth and business value to get better deals with banks and insurers.
[27] Don Jr.'s testimony kicks off several other Trump family members taking the stand.
[28] Eric Trump will testify tomorrow, followed by Donald Trump himself on Monday.
[29] Ivanka Trump is set to take the stand on November 8th.
[30] Taiwanese officials say China is upping military pressure on the Democratic Island by sending more military aircraft and several ships through the area.
[31] In the latest show, of force, Beijing sent 43 military aircraft and seven ships near the self -ruled island.
[32] Taiwan's defense ministry said that happened within a 24 -hour period and that 37 of the 43 planes crossed the median line in the Taiwan Strait, which China no longer recognizes as an informal divider between the sides.
[33] In response, Taiwan scrambled fighter jets dispatched military vessels on water and activated their land -based missile systems.
[34] These acts of aggression and intimidation from China have become more frequent following former U .S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit in August of 2022.
[35] For the second straight meeting, the Federal Reserve chose to hold steady on interest rates.
[36] The unanimous vote holds the primary interest rate between 5 .25 % to 5 .5%.
[37] The highest the rate has been in 23 years, following a series of increases over the course of the year.
[38] Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said the Fed remains focused on its goal.
[39] of 2 % inflation.
[40] The committee is proceeding carefully.
[41] We will make decisions about the extent of additional policy firming and how long policy will remain restrictive based on the totality of the incoming data, the evolving outlook, and the balance of risks.
[42] After President Biden's campaign confirmed that he won't take part in New Hampshire's first -in the nation primary, a newly launched grassroots organization has started a ballot write -in initiative on behalf of Biden.
[43] This comes as New Hampshire is certain to hold a primary that ignores the new Democratic National Committee's 2024 nominating calendar.
[44] That new schedule was first suggested by President Biden last year, and it removes the Granite State from the first primary position it's held for more than a century.
[45] The leaders of the group behind the ballot write -in effort are emphasizing that their initiative is not involved with either the president's re -election campaign or New Hampshire's Democratic Party.
[46] One of Biden's biggest supporters in the state, former State House Speaker Steve Shirtleff, has been critical of the write -in campaign.
[47] Now to turn around into Democrats, it may be undeclades, it might vote in the Democratic primary, and say, I'm not going to file to run in your state, but I want everybody to write in my name so I win it anyway.
[48] To me, that is so self -serving.
[49] The campaign would likely mean thousands of votes need to be hand -counted on primary night.
