Morning Wire XX
[0] In an unscheduled national address Wednesday evening, President Biden sounded the alarm again about what he claims is the threat to democracy posed by so -called election deniers.
[1] This is also the first election since the events of January 6th, when the armed, angry mob stormed the U .S. Capitol.
[2] I wish I could say the assault on a democracy to end it that day, but I cannot.
[3] We discussed the president's polarizing speech and its implications.
[4] applications just days from the midterms.
[5] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.
[6] It's Thursday, November 3rd, and this is Morning Wire.
[7] Republicans are rapidly gaining ground in New Hampshire, where they could pick up an unexpected Senate seat.
[8] We unveil our exclusive poll with Trafalgar Group.
[9] And a surge in cases of the flu and RSV have pediatric departments scrambling to respond.
[10] We discuss what's driving the so -called immunity gap and what to expect in the coming weeks.
[11] Thanks for waking up with Morning Wire.
[12] Stay tuned.
[13] We have the news you need to know.
[14] What are some of the things that keep getting better as you use them?
[15] A leather jacket, a cast iron skillet.
[16] What if I told you that your bed sheets could be on that list?
[17] Bulletbrand sheets aren't just soft, breathable, and incredibly comfortable.
[18] They'll actually get softer with every wash. And I can speak to this personally because I have a set of bulletin's sheet as well as a comforter.
[19] And man, they are phenomenal.

[22] President Biden addressed the nation last night in an unscheduled speech from D .C.'s union station.
[23] Joining us to discuss the president's remarks is Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce.
[24] All right, Tim, so in this speech, we heard a lot about what Democrats call election deniers and the end of American democracy, neither of which is, new from the president.
[25] But this is a notable moment nonetheless.
[26] First, walk us through the speech.
[27] Yeah, this wasn't exactly new ground.
[28] The address echoed a lot of what we've heard from Democrats and especially the White House this election season.
[29] American democracies at stake and Maga Republicans are the chief threat.
[30] If the wrong people are elected, the integrity of American elections may be irreparably compromised.
[31] One new wrinkle in the speech was the president's attempt to draw parallel between the attack on Paul Pelosi, Nancy Pelosi's husband, to capital rioters.
[32] Here's part of what said.
[33] The assailant ended up using a hammer to smash Paul's skull.
[34] After the assailant entered the home asking, where's Nancy?
[35] Where's Nancy?
[36] Those are the very same words used by the mob when they stormed the United States Capitol on January 6th, when they broke windows, kicked in the doors, brutally attacked law enforcement, roamed the corridors, hunting for officials.
[37] and erected gallows to hang the former vice president, Mike Pence.
[38] He then tied those rioters to so -called MAGA Republicans and painted a picture of America as a country that continues to be under assault by those Republicans.
[39] Yet now, extreme MAGA Republicans aimed to question not only the legitimacy of past elections, but elections being held now and into the future.
[40] The extreme MAGA element of the Republican Party, which is a minority of that party, as I said earlier, But it's this driving force, is trying to succeed where they failed in 2020, to suppress the right of voters and subvert the electoral system itself.
[41] Along with once again condemning Trump, the speech eventually shifted into an overt get -out -the -vote pitch, with Biden giving the specific litmus test of the candidate not being what he labeled an election denier.
[42] I hope you'll ask a simple question of each candidate you might vote for.
[43] Will that person accept the legitimate will of the American people, the people voting in his district or her district?
[44] Will that person accept the outcome of the election, win or lose?
[45] All right, so there we have the president saying the Republicans that Democrats label election deniers should be voted down.
[46] Now, this address seemed put together rather quickly.
[47] It was announced the same day it was given.
[48] What was the White House's goal here?
[49] Well, it's the election.
[50] Republicans have polled quite well in the past month.
[51] Biden wants to change that momentum less than a week before election day.
[52] White House officials really played up the major theme of democracy in danger ahead of the speech.
[53] They also said the setting was picked intentionally.
[54] Union Station is just a few blocks from the U .S. Capitol, and Biden used the Capitol riot on January 6 last year to highlight the stakes in the election.
[55] All right, so with all the talk about Trump and the optics there, the White House appears to be banking on, you know, the former president to motivate their base again.
[56] Right.
[57] That's been a point of criticism from Republicans.
[58] Biden needs something to deflect from his own unpopularity.
[59] And he's probably worried about his support in his own party if 2022 is a big wave for the GOP.
[60] More than a few Democrats have punted when asked if Biden should run for president in 2024.
[61] They know he's unpopular, and if he's seen as the reason Democrats lost big, he'll face some stiff resistance to leading the party past the next election.
[62] You can see this feeling building among Democrats in battleground states already.
[63] Senator Mark Kelly in Arizona, Congressman Tim Ryan in Ohio, and others are running as maverick candidates with a track record of standing up to Biden.
[64] In Kelly's case, he's voted with Biden 95 % of the time.
[65] Meanwhile, the president has generally stayed out of swing states and let popular proxies really try to motivate Democrats to get out and vote.
[66] Right.
[67] Just in the past week, we saw former President Obama campaigning for Gretchen Whitmer and other Democrats in Michigan.
[68] Whitmer is in a tight race now with Republican Tudor Dixon for the governor's seat.
[69] At the same time, Biden was down in Florida campaigning for Charlie Crist.
[70] Chris is running leagues behind Governor Rhonda Santis right now.
[71] So that's an example of Biden campaigning in a race that's not very competitive.
[72] Right, not even close.
[73] Tim, thanks for reporting.
[74] Thanks for having me. That was DailyWire's Tim Pierce.
[75] Coming up, Republicans gain the advantage in New Hampshire.

[84] Five days out from Election Day, exclusive polling from the Daily Wire and Trafalgar shows Republicans taking the lead in a crucial battleground state that was once written off as a Democrat stronghold.
[85] Here are the latest numbers from the news.
[86] New Hampshire Senate race is Daily Wire's senior editor, Cabot Phillips.
[87] Cabot, we're getting our last look at polls before the final votes are cast this Tuesday.
[88] What are we saying?
[89] Well, we're seeing Republican Don Bulldoch with a slim lead over Democrat incumbent Maggie Hasson.
[90] Right now, he's up 47 to 45 .7 in our latest Trafalgar poll.
[91] Now, keep in mind, back in September, Hassan had a double -digit lead, and a lot of Republicans sort of gave up on New Hampshire.
[92] But throughout the last month, Boldock has slowly crept up in the polls.
[93] first coming within three back in early October, and now taking the lead.
[94] And it's also worth noting this is now the second poll in two days that shows him up.
[95] Another from St. Anselaum College has him leading 48, 47.
[96] So the Trafalgar poll is not an outlier at this point.
[97] And it's another sign of clear momentum for Republicans in the Granite State.
[98] Yeah, it looks like it.
[99] So how has Baldock been able to gain so much ground so quickly?
[100] Well, one big factor is that he's been the Republican candidate for fewer than 50 days now.
[101] because the primaries in New Hampshire are so late, Boldock did not become the nominee until September 15th.
[102] That meant that Hassan had the advantage of spending all summer campaigning to general election voters while Boldock was simply trying to survive the primary.
[103] And it was a tough primary at that.
[104] The Republican establishment in New Hampshire as well as D .C. spent millions of dollars in the primary trying to prevent him from winning.
[105] They felt like he wasn't electable enough.
[106] And the Republican governor, Chris Noon, even went as far as calling him a conspiracy theory extremist.
[107] but ultimately he did end up emerging from the primary.
[108] And Republican leadership has really come around on him lately, right?
[109] Yeah, it's easy to come around on someone when they could potentially decide the balance of the Senate.
[110] And after Bullock won the primary, Republican groups, including the powerful National Republican Senateorial Committee, started investing millions of dollars into his race, and he's going to need that money.
[111] As of the last campaign filing, Hassan's campaign had brought in almost 20 times more fundraising dollars than Bulldoch.
[112] She's at 38 million.
[113] he was at 2 .2 million.
[114] And because of that discrepancy, Boldock did not air his first TV ad until October 6th.
[115] But since then, he's really caught on with voters in state.
[116] Now, we've been tracking early voting totals in other states to try to get a feel for who's in the lead, but what are we seeing in New Hampshire?
[117] While other states like Pennsylvania and Georgia allow early voting for basically the entire month before election day, New Hampshire does not allow it at all, but instead offers absentee ballots and even then, only in limited circumstances.
[118] So it seems that an upset very well could be brewing in the state of New Hampshire, which would just be crippling for Democrats if they want to hold the Senate.
[119] Yeah, it certainly would.
[120] Cabot, thanks for reporting.
[121] Anytime.
[122] That's Daily Wire's Senior Editor, Cabot Phillips.
[123] Viruses, including flu and RSV, are spiking across the U .S., and scientists are pointing to the pandemic lockdowns as a reason for the spike.
[124] Here to give us the details is DailyWire's Charlotte -Penz Bond.
[125] So, Charlotte, what are we seeing this flu season?
[126] While we're seeing a real explosion in cases, and in some states the number of RSV cases in particular is putting a major strain on pediatric departments at hospitals.
[127] The CDC put out new estimates late last month that showed there have been at least 880 ,000 flu cases around 7 ,000 hospitalizations and 360 deaths last month through October 22nd.
[128] Typically, flu gets worse in the colder months from December to February, but the agency said the southwest and south -central areas of the country are seeing.
[129] the majority of cases right now.
[130] The numbers are the most we've seen in over a decade.
[131] The cumulative hospitalizations rate is 1 .5 hospitalizations for 100 ,000 people.
[132] That data comes from the CDC's examination of around 13 states, and that's the highest rate they've seen for this time of year since 2010 to 2011.
[133] And RSV, the respiratory syncyticial virus, is also causing concerns specifically among parents since it can be really harmful for children.
[134] hospitals are seeing a rise in cases around the country.
[135] A recent CNN analysis show that RSV cases started being observed this spring and are now 60 % higher than the highest week of 2021, but they said it's probably even more.
[136] These are piling on top of each other, which is another issue.
[137] Physicians are now saying that a triple threat of viruses could be coming, of flu, RSV, and COVID.
[138] Now, why are we seeing such an uptick in flu and RSV this year?
[139] While some scientists think it may have to do with pandemic lockdowns and their effect on immunity, it's called an immunity gap.
[140] This summer, two scientists in particular, Dr. Kevin Messachar and Rachel Baker wrote about this in the Lancet Medical Journal.
[141] They say that as lockdowns kept people at home, kids and adults in their circle weren't exposed to viruses.
[142] Since people weren't getting sick, they also weren't building up immunity.
[143] With RSV in particular, babies often get immunity from their mom's breast milk.
[144] but even the moms weren't around anyone with the virus for periods of time as most people were either keeping a distance from one another or flat out quarantining.
[145] Now, not all areas of the country locked down equally or for the same amount of time.
[146] So is there direct evidence that the places that locked down harder have more of an immunity gap?
[147] Well, around mid -October, hospitals were noting spikes in at least 33 states with notable spikes in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Rhode Island.
[148] So it's not completely conclusive, but the trend does hint that lockdowns may have been a factor.
[149] Now, for people who are not familiar with RSV, can you tell us about the symptoms?
[150] According to the CDC, symptoms are runny nose, decrease in appetite, coughing, fever, sneezing, and wheezing.
[151] Lots of children get this virus, and in most cases it resolves within a week or so.
[152] But if a child is having difficulty breathing, has shallow or quick breathing, is dehydrated, or if their skin is turning blue, that's a sign to go to, hospital.
[153] All right.
[154] Well, Charlotte, thanks so much for reporting.
[155] Thanks for having me. That's Daily Wires, Charlotte Pence Bond.
[156] Another story we're tracking this week.
[157] The Parkland mass shooter has been sentenced to life without parole.
[158] Prosecutors were seeking the death penalty for the 24 -year -old, but Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer, following the jury's recommendation, gave him the more lenient sentence.
[159] One outraged parents said of the sentencing, do I see this as accountability?
[160] Absolutely not.
[161] Do we now have closure?
[162] Let me be clear, absolutely not.
[163] The murderer's 2018 Valentine's Day School Rampage took the life of 17 people, including 14 children.
