[15] Goodbye.
[16] Well then, let's do it.
[17] Hi.
[18] Hi.
[19] Welcome to my favorite murder.
[20] are mini -sowed.
[21] Where we tell you your stories back to you.
[22] The best way to hear your stories through someone else's mouth.
[23] Yep, that's true.
[24] And these mouths are owned by Karen and Georgia.
[25] And we always ask you guys for your hometown murders and you send us these amazing emails and we have like a fucking inbox full of them.
[26] People are really trying to sell the story in the subject line.
[27] I respect what they're doing.
[28] Some of it is tricky I think last time I said When I said Make sure there's only like Eight paragraphs That was a mistake Eight is way too many Eight is more than enough Four is good Four is great If we can get some large print Some double spacing Yeah don't do tiny print Absolutely don't I'm 75 years old All right Do you want me to go first for it.
[29] the subject line is Pennsylvania, hex witch murderers and a couple others because I'm obsessive and can't decide.
[30] I'm sorry.
[31] It's from Judith.
[32] Thank you, Judah.
[33] Hi.
[34] My name is Judith and I've always been obsessed with true crime.
[35] I grew up in a little town called New Park right on the MDPA line.
[36] What states are those?
[37] MD is Maryland.
[38] PA is Pennsylvania.
[39] That's right.
[40] J .D. Oh my God.
[41] I'm learning.
[42] In southern York County, this is where the hex, witch, murder, and trial happened in Rie Myers -Hollow.
[43] Is this fiction?
[44] This is from the 1800s.
[45] This is, oh my God, what if we got a ghost email?
[46] Oh, from the 1800s.
[47] My mom originally told me about this murder when I was little and I investigated it myself, aka Google Search, because our landlord literally wrote the book on it.
[48] Cool.
[49] She always told me that he was one of the Lord.
[50] is involved with the trial, but I don't think that was possible because he was born the year it happened, ha ha, the story.
[51] In 1928, this guy named John Blymeier, so it is old.
[52] Oh my God, I like it already.
[53] Yeah, 28.
[54] This guy named John Blymeier believed that he had been cursed by this recluse named Nelson R -M -E -M -E -R -I -E.
[55] I don't know why he thought this.
[56] Crazy.
[57] Sorry.
[58] John's last name is B -L -I -M -I -R -E, and the other guy's last name is R -E -H -M -E -H -M -E -H -M -E -R -E -E -E -R.
[59] Anyway, sorry.
[60] I just thought I'd cite that.
[61] It's a fun spelling area that I wanted to go into.
[62] All right.
[63] Remyer was a powwow doctor, which is a mix of witchcraft and faith healing brought over by the Pennsylvania Dutch.
[64] Oh, my goodness.
[65] This is very educational.
[66] This local witch named Nellie Nall, known as the River Witch of Marietta, advised and convinced Blymire to go to Reimeyer's house to find his copy of the spellbook to make him undo the head.
[67] X. Blymire got two others together, who also thought they'd been hexed to go with him to Riemeier's house.
[68] Remyer, of course, would not cooperate, cooperate.
[69] And they beat him to death and mutilated his body, thinking that this would undo the hex.
[70] What the fuck?
[71] I don't think that's how it works.
[72] No. Yeah.
[73] From all the horror movies I've seen when you mutilate someone, then they're going to stick around for a while.
[74] That's true.
[75] And you're the monster.
[76] And you become the powwow doctor.
[77] turns out you're a monster you're the dick yeah um the trial was of course a big deal in the area and drew lots of media attention for obvious reasons our landlord is an eccentric old guy from our area and literally just decided to write a book on it it's a super interesting book and sold everywhere in york county there's also a documentary that was recently released on it and you can see it on amazon but i haven't watched it yet so not sure how good it is you can also tour the house which i really want to do it's the only murder that i know of in the area and one that everybody there seems to know about.
[78] I work at a local TV station in D .C. And so we hear about murders and fucked up shit all the time.
[79] I added a couple of the ones that I've been fascinated with because I think you guys will love them to really quickly have to see oh girl.
[80] This just goes on and on.
[81] I'll just read the mansion murders.
[82] Have you heard of that?
[83] May 14th, 2015, super wealthy Greek family living in Upper Northwest D .C. were found murdered in their burning home.
[84] Yeah, we can't go into all these.
[85] It just goes on and on.
[86] Thanks, Judith.
[87] Yeah.
[88] Thank you.
[89] That's good because that was not that long ago.
[90] You don't think people thought that that was still a thing and murdered people over it.
[91] Worried about being hexed and then murdered the person that they thought.
[92] hex them you know what the problem is is staying in a small town you get so bored I think right once you go to the roller rink a couple times and smoke cigarettes behind the gas station you're like we've got to kill somebody we did it all let's kill somebody let's we've got to get super paranoid and start murdering guys move out of your small towns I although I have to say I really like the idea of no of a town knowing there's a witch that lives there yeah I mean, that I like.
[93] And everyone's like, yeah, okay.
[94] Just no, don't murder.
[95] It's just, don't matter.
[96] I mean, and witchcraft isn't, it's probably, it's not that big of a deal.
[97] It's like, kind of cool.
[98] Well, except for if you freak out about it.
[99] That's true.
[100] All right, this one is called murder story near miss. And it's by Jason.
[101] And I really like it.
[102] And I think you're going to love it.
[103] It's short.
[104] So my friend Tony has always been a loud mouth.
[105] and is a school teacher in Wichita.
[106] He lives in the suburbs.
[107] He got home from work one night and found his two dogs had escaped the backyard through his makeshift fence repair.
[108] He goes searching around the neighborhood and finds them leashed in a neighbor's house a few doors down.
[109] He thanks the man for catching the dogs, apologizes that they had gotten out, says, I don't know where they're getting out.
[110] I'm going to fix it this weekend.
[111] The neighbor is firm in stating, well, too bad.
[112] I already called Animal Control on their on their way.
[113] You can pick them up from the pound.
[114] Tony says it's not necessary, it won't happen again, and it evolves into a shouting match and a little scuffle as Tony forcibly takes a dog away and back home.
[115] Two weeks later, the neighbor is arrested.
[116] You want to know, ready for this, Karen?
[117] Dennis Raider, BTK.
[118] No!
[119] My loudmouthed friend got in a screaming match with a serial killer, Jason.
[120] Oh my God, that was such a good surprise.
[121] I know.
[122] honestly thought you were going to be like the neighbor killed him and buried him in the very fence line that got let the dog oh that is the greatest i know because also what kind of a i got so mad immediately who would an asshole yes and also he killed a lot of people but what an asshole but also just a bad neighbor um yeah that's such a dick move of like no you need to be punished even though you didn't get caught i'm going to punish yeah because a red flag personality yeah get him arrested immediately.
[123] Yeah.
[124] Karen, you know I'm all about vintage shopping.
[125] Absolutely.
[126] And when you say vintage, you mean when you physically drive to a store and actually purchase something with cash.
[127] Exactly.

[157] Only Murders in the Building, premieres August 27th, streaming only on who.
[158] Hulu.
[159] Goodbye.
[160] Do you want to hear, okay, hometown story Davenport, Iowa, or nannying for a murder, or that one time I got a backer of from a killer.
[161] I don't even know why I asked you that.
[162] All right.
[163] This one's got along.
[164] Okay, this is from Amanda.
[165] So, all right.
[166] When I was 18, my best friend and I picked up her brother.
[167] from a ninjitsu class.
[168] The class was held in an industrial estate that was completely empty in the evenings when the surrounding business is closed.
[169] The brother told us that his instructor was starting a class just for girls and if we went along next week, our first class would be free.
[170] Uh -oh.
[171] We got to the studio and we were the only two there.
[172] He hadn't told anyone else about the class.
[173] Let's see.
[174] We don't want to offend him.
[175] We were stupid.
[176] After the class, he said he needed us to come up to the office to complete some paperwork.
[177] We went upstairs, so stupid.
[178] He took, she wrote this, not me. I'm not saying this.
[179] He took us into the office and locked the door behind him using a key he put in his pocket.
[180] The only furniture in the, what?
[181] Just the locking a door from the inside with a key.
[182] Totally.
[183] No, no, no. Nightmare.
[184] Like, you have to put that lock on that door.
[185] You immediately start screaming.
[186] If somebody in that, in a scenario like that, where somebody you kind of don't know, has locked a, locked you into a room with that person.
[187] I know.
[188] Grab the phone and start dial on 911 and just start screaming.
[189] Oh my God.
[190] I'm scared.
[191] Loser shit.
[192] What?
[193] Who would do that?
[194] No, I know.
[195] It's insane.
[196] Why are we fighting?
[197] Because I'm going to lock you out of fucking room.
[198] Okay.
[199] The only furniture, here's fun.
[200] The only furniture in the office was a bed.
[201] We sat on the bed and filled out the paperwork.
[202] I gave him my home number, my home address, my work address.
[203] Have I mentioned how?
[204] stupid I was.
[205] We were freaked out, but didn't know what to do.
[206] We told him we need to get home, but he said he just wanted to chat.
[207] He offers us some, quote, wine.
[208] He was making himself in a bucket under the bed.
[209] No. It had fruit and bread floating in it and smelled like garbage.
[210] We politely declined.
[211] He offered us weed.
[212] Then he offered us something stronger.
[213] We said no to everything, the only smart thing we did.
[214] At some point, I kind of winced as I moved and he told me he was a great out massage.
[215] He got me to lie face down on the bed while he rubbed my back.
[216] And then in all caps, she said, I did this.
[217] this without arguing.
[218] We'd been in the office for well over an hour.
[219] We were frightened and feeling trapped.
[220] Suddenly, someone was banging on the door downstairs and shouting that he knew Chris, the instructor, was there because his car was outside.
[221] Chris had to unlock the door and let us out.
[222] This was 20 years ago.
[223] We had Nell cell phones and hadn't told our poor moms where we were other than we were going to the martial arts class.
[224] Over the next few weeks, he called me repeatedly at home and visited me at work until the security guards told him that they would call the police if he came back.
[225] About eight months later, a young mother was found dead near her front door and her baby was missing.
[226] The baby was later found unharmed in a nearby church car park.
[227] The police visited me at work for a statement.
[228] Chris Lewis, the instructor, was arrested for the murder of Tanya Furlown.
[229] Oh, my God.
[230] He was never, he was never found guilty because he killed himself in prison.
[231] The look the policeman and woman gave me when I told them I'd let him massage me still makes me cringe.
[232] Let this be a lesson to Let this be a lesson to all people to not be polite.
[233] If it seems weird or creepy, all caps, get the fuck out of there.
[234] Don't lie down on a killer's bed.
[235] Oh, Amanda.
[236] Good job.
[237] Oh, my God.
[238] Dude, you know you and I both would have done something fucking stupid like that.
[239] I did.
[240] I know.
[241] But that's that thing where it's like people that are, people who are offering you free shit, people who are saying it's all girls.
[242] people who like any of these things that it's we're not trained very well yet i think kids these days are but like we certainly weren't that that's a red flag yeah it's not like oh sure it's no big deal yeah like adults who want to hang around children no red flag red flag red flag 1 ,000 1 ,000 uh that's amazing one more you're glad you're still here yeah so the subject line of this is creepy shit is creepy hell yeah It's from Lindsay.
[243] Hi, ladies.
[244] I just had to write this email while at work because I discovered your podcast thanks to my twisted writer comrades who are all thoroughly obsessed.
[245] While my town, Grove City isn't particularly famous for crazy murders, the local city Columbus just had something super creepy happen.
[246] Yay.
[247] And I thought you would love to know.
[248] We would.
[249] On March 4, 2016, Joey LaBute went to the Union Bar in the short north district of Columbus, a rather famous area as it's home to a thriving.
[250] LGBTQ community with friends at 12 .30 a .m. March 5th.
[251] Joey left the table to get a drink.
[252] Security footage shows Joey leaving the bar alone and walking down the street.
[253] His car remained at its parked location a few blocks away and there was no activity at his apartment and none of his credit cards had been used.
[254] The last thing anyone heard from him was a text sent at 122 a .m. that read Capital J. H .N. N -S -I -O -T -J, period.
[255] What does that spell?
[256] It spells nothing.
[257] It looks like John with no O is backwards and O -T -J.
[258] Out.
[259] But all, but it's all.
[260] Yeah.
[261] All one.
[262] He remained missing until March 29th.
[263] He was found floating in the Shiotto River that runs through the city.
[264] The cause of death was undetermined, but he only had alcohol in his system and no water in his lungs.
[265] Meaning he was dead before he went into the water.
[266] That's true.
[267] However, there is no evidence of physical harm.
[268] The mystery remains unsolved.
[269] What happened?
[270] Anyway, that's all.
[271] Keep kicking ass.
[272] Stay sexy, don't get murdered.
[273] Is that the smiley face murders?
[274] Is that the one where they keep finding men in the, in rivers and like college towns with smiley faces spray painted on the walls nearby?
[275] Um, that I feel like the smiley face murder, the one I know about is older.
[276] Okay.
[277] This is super recent.
[278] Those might be two different things.
[279] but that's the fact that he doesn't have water in his lungs scares me. That's horrifying.
[280] Did he hit his head on the way down?
[281] I mean, there's no evidence of physical harm which is super weird.
[282] Plus if he had hit his head, he wouldn't have died instantly.
[283] But it seems, the first thing I thought of is maybe he got dosed.
[284] You know, like maybe he got roofied and he felt weird.
[285] You know, they always say, like, if you're going to have a heart attack, a very common thing when people start to have heart attacks, they get up and go into a different room because we're yeah that's a really common thing that a lot of people die of heart attacks because they separate themselves from who they're with because they're like oh you know something's wrong and they try to like go to the bathroom or get away and so this is there's a chance maybe he got roofied and he started feeling super weird so he just got up and walk he needed to go outside and like get fresh air and then by the time he realized he was like he didn't know where he was he tried to text but he couldn't put anything together.
[286] Oh, my God.
[287] That's so scary.
[288] I mean, doesn't it seem possible that something like that?
[289] It does.
[290] And that the person who dosed him in the bar followed him.
[291] Ooh.
[292] Oh, and that's how he got in the water.
[293] Yeah.
[294] Fuck.
[295] I mean.
[296] That's the one puzzle piece that wouldn't make it not make sense to me that he ended up in the water.
[297] But if someone put him in the water.
[298] Right.
[299] It's a common thing that like serial killers do because it gets rid of a lot of evidence.
[300] to go into a river.
[301] And it just sends them away, like, current -wise, gets the body away.
[302] Bye.
[303] Bye.
[304] Oh, my God, that scares me. That's a good, I mean, as much as we, like a murder story, a mystery, this is still.
[305] But the mystery aspect is also fascinating.
[306] I love a mystery.
[307] I don't do one.
[308] Let's see.
[309] This one's called Nannying for a Murderer by Taylor.
[310] Hey, ladies.
[311] Maybe this is cheating because this.
[312] This is recent.
[313] My friend used to nanny for a family where I lived in Sugarhouse, Utah.
[314] The father was a pediatrician and the mother of scientists researching cancer.
[315] The couple divorced.
[316] In 2011, Yuda von Schwilder, was found dead in her bathtub.
[317] The examiner said she died from a combination of overdosing on Xanax and drowning, but did not determine if it was a homicide or suicide.
[318] It's worth noting she also had a few knife wounds.
[319] Oh.
[320] That is definitely worth noting.
[321] Yes.
[322] For more than a year, there was basically no investigation.
[323] However, the 18 -year -old son insisted that the father had something to do with it.
[324] After a year accusing his father, they finally charged him.
[325] The two youngest siblings were removed from the father's custody, and my friend kept them during this time.
[326] I used to ask her if she thought he was guilty, and she wasn't really allowed to have an opinion.
[327] By law, she had to remain a neutral party, as to not influence the younger children.
[328] My friend had these children for six months or longer as the story unfolded.
[329] A jury convicted, the ex -husband, John Brickman -Wall, to 15 years.
[330] It boiled down to his non -existent alibi, unexplained scratch marks, and blood spatter evidence from said knife wounds.
[331] Who knows, Euda could have been the woman who cured cancer.
[332] As far as I'm concerned, we can blame John Brickman Wall for anyone who has died of cancer after 2011.
[333] Cheers, Taylor.
[334] Fifteen years from murdering his wife, he's going to be out in seven.
[335] Yeah, what's the, uh, did they have to bring him up on, like lesser charges at first -degree murder?
[336] Maybe man something, slaughtered.
[337] God.
[338] Wow, that's intense.
[339] Totally.
[340] Bummer.
[341] It never ceases to bum you out when we go to read murder stories.
[342] Isn't that weird?
[343] Bummer.
[344] You know what?
[345] I don't like this.
[346] Do you know what?
[347] Never mind.
[348] I don't want to read cheerful stories.
[349] You know what?
[350] Here's the story.
[351] You know who is happy about this, though?
[352] Oh, there is someone who benefits from all of these stories.
[353] There is one person who's very, very happy about these murder stories.
[354] Elvis?
[355] Oh, stay many, wait, go, yeah.
[356] Stay sexy.
[357] Don't get murdered.
[358] Elvis, want a cookie?
[359] Good boy.
