Morning Wire XX
[0] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.
[1] It's Monday, May 22nd, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] In a Daily Wire exclusive, the mother of Yulia Hicks, a child who was denied a kidney transplant by Duke Children's Hospital last year, has confirmed that Yulia will finally be receiving the life -saving operation at another North Carolina hospital.
[3] The teen has a genetic kidney disorder that requires a transplant, but her family said last year that Duke was refusing to put Yulia on the kidney weight list because she is unvaccinated against COVID.
[4] The family also says that Yulia has already recovered from having the virus.
[5] Yulia's mother, Chrissy Hicks, spoke to Morningwire.
[6] Our daughter, Yulia Hicks, will finally be receiving her kidney transplant at another North Carolina hospital on Thursday.
[7] We are eternally indebted to her generous live donor.
[8] New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams has a new proposal for dealing with migrants crossing the border, and it involves the federal government dispersing them across America.
[9] Here with more is Daily Wire Researcher Trevor Mock.
[10] Adam said this week that instead of New York City having to bear the burden of housing, feeding, and supporting the mass influx of migrants, that the federal government needs to do more to direct them across the entire United States.
[11] We have 108 ,000 cities, villages, towns.
[12] if everyone takes a small portion of that and if it's coordinated at the border to ensure that those who are coming here to this country in a lawful manner is actually moved throughout the entire country.
[13] It is not a burden on one city.
[14] New York City has seen an influx of more than 55 ,000 illegal aliens since the spring of 2022, and 35 ,000 of those are receiving services from the city.
[15] Brian Coburger, the man accused of murdering four University of Idaho undergraduate students, appeared in court for his arraignment today.
[16] In court, Coburger smiled at his attorney and sat in silence as she said her client would be standing silent.
[17] Standing silent means the defendant does not enter a plea of guilty or not guilty, but has the same outcome of pleading not guilty.
[18] The highly anticipated trial is set for October 2nd.
[19] South Carolina Senator Tim Scott announced his candidacy for President of the United States today at a rally in North Charleston.
[20] Scott joins former President Donald J. Trump, former United Nations ambassador and fellow South Carolinian Nikki Haley, former Oklahoma Governor Asa Hutchinson, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, as notable names in the race so far.
[21] Joe Biden and the Radical Left are attacking every single rung of the ladder that helped me climb.
[22] And that's why I'm announcing today that I'm running for our president of the United States.
[23] You see, they're attacking our American values, our schools, our economy, and our security.
[24] But not on my watch.
[25] Not on my watch.
[26] The European Union has fined Meta Facebook's parent company with a record $1 .3 billion for data privacy violations.
[27] The Irish Data Protection Commission found that META had been illicitly transferring user data from Europe to the U .S. The Commission said that they were in breach of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation.
[28] Meta's European headquarters are in Dublin.
[29] With the clock ticking, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is set to meet with President Biden this evening to continue negotiations over raising the debt ceiling.
[30] After a weekend of turbulent on -again -off -again talks, Democrats and Republicans will try to hash out an agreement on how to pay the nation's bills.
[31] Economist Kenny Polkari says a default is extremely unlikely.
[32] What I think is irresponsible is the inflammatory language that the Fed uses or that the, not the Fed so much that the Treasury Secretary uses.
[33] It's apocalyptic.
[34] It's cataclysmic.
[35] It's a disaster.
[36] It's unprecedented.
[37] All those words do nothing but create anxiety in the markets and anxiety in investors.
[38] And that's why I think it's irresponsible because Jenny Gallant, of all people, knows and understands the U .S. is not defaulting on any of its debt.
[39] The L .A. Dodgers are facing backlash from LGBT activists after rescinding their invitation to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence for their Pride Night's celebration, saying the troops' presence would not be in alignment with a spirit of unity.
[40] The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is a decades -old activist group that parodies Catholic nuns in drag attire, which critics say mocks Catholicism.
[41] As a result of the rescinded invitation, L .A. Pride has pulled out of the annual Dodgers Pride Night event.
