Morning Wire XX
[0] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.
[1] It's Monday, October 30th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] The Israeli military took out four senior Hamas commanders during undisclosed attacks on Sunday.
[3] The spokesman for the Israeli Defense Force said on X on Monday that the plan was executed thanks to information from Israel's military and internal intelligence agencies, the Amman, and the Shinbet.
[4] The announcement comes as Israel has expanded its ground operations.
[5] into Gaza.
[6] IDF soldiers have eliminated squads that tried to attack their forces and destroyed terrorist infrastructure, including anti -tank and launch positions.
[7] The IDF and Shinbet have also announced that an Israeli soldier captured by Hamas has been rescued.
[8] They say she is in good condition and has been spending time with her family.
[9] Meanwhile, Netanyahu addressed those calling for a ceasefire.
[10] Just as the United States would not agree to a ceasefire after the bombing of Pearl Harbor or after the terrorist attack of 9 -11, Israel will not agree to a cessation of hostilities with Hamas after the horrific attacks of October 7th.
[11] Calls for a ceasefire are calls for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorism, to surrender to barbarism.
[12] That will not happen.
[13] Oil prices could move into uncharted waters if the conflict between Israel and Hamas broadens, which, as the World Bank says, could result in higher food prices.
[14] Daily Wire Senior Editor Cabot Phillips has more.
[15] In the World Bank report, three scenarios are simulated as to how the global oil supply would be affected by a small, medium, or large disruption.
[16] The bank estimates that during a small disruption, or one where conflict does not escalate, oil prices are expected to continue their decline from around $90 a barrel to $81.
[17] During a medium disruption, which the bank equates to the Iraq War, oil production would decline by about three to five million barrels a day, leading to a price surge of about 35%.
[18] The bank says in a large disruption, which they compare it to the 1973 Arab oil embargo, we could see a 56 % spike in prices leading to a price of $140 to $157 per barrel.
[19] Arguments in another lawsuit involving former President Trump entered a new phase today in a hearing focused on whether the January 6 riot meets the constitutional definition of an insurrection and whether Trump's alleged role is enough to see, him removed from the ballot.
[20] The hearing, which is taking place in Colorado, is one of two state lawsuits that could make it all the way up to the Supreme Court.
[21] An attorney representing a group of Colorado voters who want Trump drop from the ballot said that a crowd that Trump supposedly incited came within 40 feet of the vice president during the events that day.
[22] We are here because Trump claims, after all that, he has the right to be president again.
[23] But our Constitution, our shared charter of our nation says he cannot do so.
[24] And Colorado law says this court must ensure that only eligible candidates appear on our ballots.
[25] Later this week, similar arguments will be heard before the Minnesota Supreme Court.
[26] Following what many are calling the worst mass shooting in the state of Maine's history, local law enforcement officials tell the Associated Press that they were alerted to the threat posed by the shooter a month before.
[27] Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has more.
[28] State officials announced Friday that the suspected shooter was found dead due to a self -inflicted gunshot wound.
[29] Police were notified following the shooting that the suspect had been committed to a mental health facility previously for hearing voices.
[30] Law enforcement officials, however, say they haven't found any evidence that this claim is true, though being committed to a mental health facility could have made it illegal for him to possess guns.
[31] The October 25th shooting rampage left 18 people dead and 13 injured.
[32] Daily Wire has declined to name the suspect per company policy regarding mass shooters.
[33] Friends fans continue to mourn the untimely death of actor Matthew Perry, who was found dead over the weekend at his home in L .A. According to unnamed sources, the 54 -year -old actor's body was discovered in his hot tub.
[34] The official cause of death has not been released pending a toxicology report.
[35] An American hockey player has died after he was cut on the neck by another player's skate in the UK's elite ice ice.
[36] hockey league over the weekend.
[37] The player appeared in 13 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins in both 2019 and 2020.
[38] Crane Company co -host, David Cohn, has more.
[39] 29 -year -old Adam Johnson was playing for the Nottingham Panthers in a Challenge Cup game against the Sheffield Steelers when he suffered the fatal slash.
[40] Matt Petgrave, the other player involved, has a history of questionable behavior in the league.
[41] Petgrave racked up the most penalty minutes in the 2022 -2020 season.
[42] Both the Nottingham Panthers and the Pittsburgh Penguins have released statements offering their condolences to Johnson's family and said he would always be a part of their hockey family.
[43] There have been several skate -cut scares throughout NHL history, one of the most notable as Buffalo goaltender Clint Mallorchuk, who took a blade to the neck during a game against St. Louis in 1989.
[44] He recovered.
[45] That was not the case here with Adam Johnson.
[46] Our condolences go out to the Johnson family.
[47] And some news about Halloween candy.
[48] This is the second year in a row where consumers are seeing massive double -digit inflation all along the candy aisle, and it's showing no signs of slowing down.
[49] On top of the 14 % rise in inflation for the entire year of 2022, candy and gum are up an average of 13 % this month as compared to last October.
