[7] Life -threatening winds and flooding in California are expected to continue throughout the day.
[8] At least four people have died from flooding south of Sacramento after levees in the area were damaged.
[9] And a young child was killed by a fallen tree in Sonoma County.
[10] Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency on Wednesday, authorizing the mobilization of the National Guard.
[11] Authorities are requesting that residents stay off the roads.
[12] Please, please do not ignore road closure.
[13] or attempt to cross flooded roadways.
[14] This is extremely dangerous and an unnecessary risk.
[15] As little of 12 inches of water can cause a vehicle to start to float.
[16] Team officials with the Buffalo Bill say safety, Damar Hamlin, has shown what physicians treating him are calling remarkable improvement over the past 24 hours.
[17] Hamlin went into cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated on the field during Monday night's game against Cincinnati.
[18] Hamlin's agent Ronald Butler told the Associated Press that Hamlin, was awake and has been able to grip the hands of family members at his hospital bedside.
[19] During a press conference today, medical officials say he's been communicating in writing.

[24] On Thursday afternoon, following two more rounds of voting, California Republican Kevin McCarthy once again failed to secure the necessary votes to become Speaker of the House, prolonging one of the longest such stalemates in American history.
[25] After eight rounds of voting, the 20 anti -McCarthy Republicans stood firm, despite reported concessions offered from GOP leadership, including spots on important committees and revised rules moving forward.
[26] The House will now convene for a ninth round of voting.
[27] Alleged major fentanyl trafficker and son of notorious Kingpin El Chapo, Oviedo Guzman has been captured.
[28] The Mexican Army says they made the arrest Thursday, just days before President Biden's scheduled trip to the country for the summit of the three North American leaders.
[29] Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan, the chairwoman of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, announced Thursday that she will not run for re -election in 2024.
[30] Authorities say the main teenager accused of attacking three New York police officers with a machete on New Year's Eve, wanted to murder government officials and allegedly shouted Allahou Akbar during the incident.
[31] The suspect faces a mandatory life sentence after he was charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of attempted assault.
[32] Tufts University announced today that it will no longer require bivalent COVID boosters for students, faculty, and staff, bucking the trend of most American universities.
