[1] It's Friday, October 20th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] Congressman Jim Jordan has lost a third vote for election the Speaker of the House, and the GOP conference will now look for a new nominee.
[3] In Friday morning's tally, 25 Republicans opposed the Ohio representative's bid, an increase of three since yesterday's vote.
[4] The eight Republicans who voted to vacate Speaker Kevin McCarthy issued a letter saying they would accept censure, suspension, or removal from the conference if that would persuade current holdouts to vote for Jordan, but those efforts failed.
[5] Jordan vowed to support the GOP's next nominee.
[6] We need to come together and figure out who our speaker is going to be.
[7] I'm going to work as hard as I can to help that individual so that we can go help the American people.
[8] The Israel Defense Force said early today that they discovered and killed three Hezbollah terrorists along the border with Lebanon.
[9] IDF snipers also shot at other armed men near another part of the border.
[10] Israeli officials say clashes with the Iran -back terrorist group have risen in the week since the October 7th attack by Hamas.
[11] A Hezbollah official claimed earlier this week that the group is a thousand times stronger now than they were in previous conflicts with Israel.
[12] Meanwhile, in a primetime Oval Office addressed Thursday night, President Biden told Americans that we must deepen our support for both Israel and Ukraine.

[14] The security package I'm sending to Congress and asking Congress to do is an unprecedented commitment to Israel's security that will sharpen Israel's qualitative military edge, which we've committed to.
[15] We're going to make sure Iron Dome continues to guard the skies over Israel.
[16] The president's funding request will cost just over $105 billion.
[17] It would allocate $60 billion to Ukraine to reload the country's weapons supply.
[18] The package also includes $14 billion for Israel, $14 billion for managing the U .S. southern border, and $7 billion for the Indo -Pacific region.
[19] New York Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement this week that the city will begin limiting how long migrant families with children can stay in city shelters.
[20] The proposed time limit is now 60 days, after which families will be assisted in finding new accommodations.
[21] The city already imposes a 30 -day limit in emergency housing for single adults.
[22] comes as the legal battle surrounding the city's right to shelter law heads back to the courts.
[23] While Adams is fielding some criticism for the move, he's standing firm.

[27] Crypto firms, digital currency group, and Gemini are accused of defrauding over 200 ,000 investors out of over $1 billion, according to a new lawsuit filed by New York State.
[28] prosecutors Thursday.

[30] The suit alleges several slip -ups, including failing to sufficiently manage the risk of exposing investments to Sam Bankman -Fried's bankrupt crypto firm FTX.
[31] Prosecutors claim that digital currency group and its subsidiaries and affiliates allegedly lied to investors while creating fake financial documents and withholding information from creditors.
[32] Genesis, one of DCG's affiliates, collected crypto from its customers and lent it out to other parties, reaping profits from the interest it charged its clients.
[33] New York prosecutors alleged that Genesis both failed to audit some of its clients properly for more than two years and, along with its parent company, conspired to conceal details from investors and the public.
[34] Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sent a letter to U .S. congressman detailing his office's findings regarding Colony Ridge.
[35] That's the controversial housing development in Liberty County.
[36] In the letter, Paxton says, quote, the development appears to be attracting and enabling illegal alien settlement in the state of Texas and distressing neighboring cities and school districts.
[37] The AG blamed two local politicians, Texas state Senator Robert Nichols and Representative Ernest Bales, for allegedly working to enrich specific developers at the expense of the rest of the public and reducing the quality of life for their own constituents.
[38] He also says he found that crime in the area has risen to an unmanageable level.
[39] faculty at the University of Chicago are warning students to be aware and stay vigilant amid a string of recent armed robberies on and near campus.
[40] A total of four armed robberies took place since last weekend with more than eight victims.
[41] The victims all described around five or six robbers approaching them, demanding wallets, cell phones, and their cell phone passwords.
[42] On Wednesday, police recovered a gray Kia Sportage that is believed to have been used in the thefts.
[43] While the school eventually issued a warning about the incidents, Students say it didn't come soon enough.
[44] So students were really freaked out, you know, there were no emails, there were no warnings to watch out for this car, watch out for this area.
[45] Police have arrested a 22 -year -old driver who they suspect of manslaughter after a Malibu crash killed four college students and injured two others.
[46] The six people were struck around 8 p .m. on Tuesday along the Pacific Coast Highway, just miles from Pepperdine University.
[47] Four women were pronounced dead at the scene while two others were taken to the hospital.
[48] Jim Gash, Pepperdine's president, later confirmed that the four killed were students.
[49] And Bert Young, the Oscar -nominated actor best known for his role as Rocky Balboa's Mumblin and Grumblin best friend and cornerman, Pauley, has died.
[50] Young passed away earlier this month in Los Angeles at the age of 83.
[51] No cause of death has been revealed.
