[3] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.
[4] It's Wednesday, March 6th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[5] An attack today on a shipping vessel in the Gulf of Aden caused fatalities, and many suspect Yemen's Houthi rebels are to blame.
[6] Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has the latest.
[7] Authorities say most of the crew was forced to abandon ship, though the extent of the damage to the vessel remains unclear.
[8] Officials say the attack on the ship, named True Confidence, came after it had been addressed by individuals claiming to be the Yemeni military via radio, something the Houthis have been doing since their attacks began in November of last year.
[9] U .S. officials told NBC News that the attack killed at least two sailors and injured half a dozen others.
[10] The Houthis didn't immediately claim response.
[11] for the attack, though it typically takes several hours for them to acknowledge an assault.
[12] Despite more than a month and a half of U .S.-led airstrikes, Houthi rebels have remained capable of launching attacks such as this one.
[13] In the wake of Super Tuesday, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has ended her bid for the White House.
[14] Haley made the announcement this morning, following the results from last night in which Trump swept 14 of the 15 states that held Republican presidential primaries or caucuses.
[15] Haley did not, however, immediately endorse former President Trump, who will likely be the official GOP nominee within the next week or two.
[16] At its best, politics is about bringing people into your cause, not turning them away.
[17] And our conservative cause badly needs more people.
[18] This is now his time for choosing.
[19] I end my campaign with the same words I began it from the book of Joshua.
[20] I direct them to all Americans, but especially to so many of the women and girls out there who put their faith in our campaign.
[21] Be strong and courageous.
[22] Do not be afraid.
[23] Do not be discouraged.
[24] For God will be with you wherever you go.
[25] Trump took to social media last night to invite Haley supporters to, quote, join the greatest movement in the history of our nation.
[26] Democratic Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey faces new charges and an indictment filed by Manhattan federal prosecutors.
[27] Daily Wire's senior editor, Joel Needler, has more.
[28] The senator and his wife, Nadine, are faced with new counts of conspiracy to obstruct justice and obstruction of justice connected to bribery payments the senator allegedly took from several New Jersey businessmen.
[29] The new accusation appears to have resulted from co -defendant Jose Uribe's guilty plea last week.
[30] Uribe admitted to providing Nadine Menendez with a Mercedes -Benz convertible in exchange for the senators help.
[31] These new charges come in addition to charges against Menendez for acting as a foreign agent.
[32] He's accused of taking luxurious gifts in exchange for doing favors for foreign governments.
[33] Defense attorney Ashley Merchant testified today before a Georgia State Senate committee as it investigates the action of Fulton County District Attorney Fannie Willis.
[34] Merchant is the defense attorney for a Trump co -defendant currently being charged by D .A. Willis.
[35] Merchant initially launched the allegations of an improper relationship between Willis and Nathan.
[36] and Wade, the lead prosecutor in the case.
[37] The controversy is threatened to undermine the case against Trump and Georgia.
[38] During the hearing, Merchant expanded on how she learned about the affair between Willis and Wade in detail.
[39] Here's some of her testimony.
[40] Terrence Bradley was Nathan Wade's law partner originally, and he was also his lawyer in the divorce.
[41] So she became DA January 1st, 2021, but she had a transition team leading up to that.
[42] And Mr. Wade was in charge of her transition team.
[43] So Mr. Bradley said that they had been together.
[44] They met at this conference.
[45] Nathan was still married.
[46] And Mr. Bradley was upset because he essentially just left her after meeting Miss Willis and dropping the kids off at college.
[47] And then ultimately that Nathan was hired as the attorney on this case.
[48] They had been dating before.
[49] And he told me, you know, they met at hotels.
[50] He would go to her place.
[51] I remember him saying, you need to find her bestie who they had a falling out.
[52] That's the person whose condo it was that they would.
[53] and me that.
[54] San Francisco went all in on a pair of law and order ballot measures on Tuesday night, one of which would require welfare recipients suspected of drug use to undergo drug screenings.
[55] The welfare requirement measure, known as Proposition F, passed with 63 % support as of this morning.
[56] Another ballot measure known as Proposition E expands police powers while also reining in some of the oversight.
[57] That had 60 % approval as of this morning.
[58] Critics of the measures have claimed that the results would backfire and reverse progress in the city, though Democratic Mayor London Breed, who is up for re -election, supports both measures.
[59] The people who are part of programs that are trying to help people get clean and sober, they believe that we as a city need to be more aggressive in tackling this problem.
[60] So right now, the police can only pursue when it's a violent felony.
[61] But in the middle of night, when these small businesses are being broken into and the police arrive on the scene.
[62] Police can't even pursue them in the middle of the night because it's not a violent felony.
[63] New York Governor Kathy Hokel said today that she will deploy National Guard soldiers and state police officers to patrol state subway systems.
[64] The governor said a large show of force in the system will hopefully help commuters and visitors to the city feel safe.
[65] This new presence will add on to an already large presence of law enforcement in the subway after Mayor Eric Adams ordered an additional 1 ,000 officers in February following a 45 % spike in crime in January.
[66] Hockel has said she will deploy 1 ,000 members of the authority to, quote, conduct bag checks in the city's busiest stations.
