[0] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.

[1] It's Friday, August 25th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.

[2] The first ever mugshot of a former U .S. President, Donald Trump's instantly iconic photo from Fulton County Jail, has predictably gone viral.

[3] It's been repeatedly displayed by media outlets and touted by the former president himself on the platform X. It's the Mona Lisa.

[4] It's incredible.

[5] And nobody will ever have a mugshot like this.

[6] In his first tweet in the more than two years since he was banned from Twitter, Trump posted a tweet of his glaring mug shot along with the web address for his fundraising page.

[7] The tweet was viewed over a million times within just a matter of hours, and merchandise featuring it was also up for sale instantly by the Trump campaign.

[8] The former president and current leading GOP candidate was also given a number, inmate number P -1 -1 -35809.

[9] Trump also turned heads by describing himself in the book, documents as being 6 '3 and 215 pounds, a good bit lighter than the White House doctor reported back in 2018.

[10] Also going viral are Trump's comments on the day he turned himself in.

[11] When you have that great freedom to challenge, you have to be able to, otherwise you're going have very dishonest elections.

[12] What has taken place here is a travesty of justice.

[13] We did nothing wrong.

[14] I did nothing wrong.

[15] And everybody knows it.

[16] I've never had such support.

[17] Stay tuned for our in -depth analysis of the Fulton County case this weekend.

[18] Several more stores have been robbed by so -called smash -and -grab shoplifters in Los Angeles.

[19] Just days after L .A. Mayor Karen Bass announced a task force to target the retail theft rings.

[20] At least three stores were robbed this week, including a foot locker store in Arcadia.

[21] Morning Wire spoke to Deputy District Attorney John McKinney, who is hopeful that the task force will eventually have an impact, but only if it includes.

[22] strict punishments.

[23] We're not going to really see an impact on this behavior until the people who are doing it see some real teeth in a criminal justice system.

[24] In order for them to be deterred, it's going to take more than a flashy press conference.

[25] They're going to have to hear and see people going to jail and even prison before calculus of whether to get involved in this behavior changes.

[26] Sandwich chain Subway confirmed Thursday that it will be sold.

[27] According to a report by the Wall Street Journal earlier this week, the Atlanta -based Rorke Capital was offering around $9 .6 billion for Subway, which is privately owned.

[28] Subway said its leadership team will remain in place.

[29] Rourke is also the parent company to several other popular food chains, including Arby's, Duncan, Jimmy Johns, and Buffalo Wild Wings.

[30] Democratic Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina announced this week that he would be a sweeping GOP -supported election bill, which could cause another override showdown.

[31] The bill in question would end a grace period for mail -in voting.

[32] In a video message, the governor accused Republicans of using their majority to assault the people's right to vote.

[33] Unfortunately, these schemes aren't new in North Carolina, and we've stopped many of them before.

[34] Only this time, Republicans are armed with a one -vote legislative supermajority.

[35] Cooper, who cannot run for re -election in 2024 due to term limits, successfully blocked several components of the bill during past sessions.

[36] Wireless carrier T -Mobile says it plans to cut around 5 ,000 jobs or about 7 % of its workforce.

[37] In an email to employees Thursday, the company's CEO said the layoffs would happen over the next five weeks and impact a variety of different employees throughout the U .S. The laid -off employees will receive severance packages based on tenure.

[38] The announcement comes just months after the company's CEO said the telecom sector was, quote, vibrant and healthy.

[39] You know, we've always been the value leader that's important in a time of, you know, questionable economy.

[40] But at the same time now, for the first time in our history, we're the network leader.

[41] The layoffs at the wireless company follow a string of mass job cuts throughout the tech sector, including Google and Amazon.

[42] Layoffs have also reached outside of tech hitting Disney parks, newspapers, and some universities.

[43] A three -day summit of the BRICS countries of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa ended with a significant expansion.

[44] The nations of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have been added to the group in Iran, Argentina, Egypt, and Ethiopia are scheduled to be added next year.

[45] The summit included plans to move away from the U .S. dollar for trade deals.

[46] Vladimir Putin issued a statement saying that the de -dollarization movement is already gaining momentum with the BRICS countries.

[47] The Biden administration director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism may soon recommend Americans limit themselves to two drinks per week.

[48] Dr. George Coop told Daily Mail online that he hasn't changed the guidelines yet, but is considering following Canada's lead, which changed their alcohol consumption recommendations earlier this year.

[49] Coop says a new study shows significant health benefits of reducing alcohol intake.

[50] Current recommendations are just one drink per day for women and women.

[51] two for men.

[52] Tears and happy Friday.
