[1] It's Wednesday, November 8th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] Chairman James Comer of the House Oversight Committee announced several subpoenas on Wednesday for individuals related to alleged Biden family corruption, including some family members.
[3] Hunter Biden, the president's brother James Biden, and former Hunter Biden Business Associate Rob Walker, have all been ordered to appear.
[4] The committee had previously subpoenaed records belonging.
[5] to Hunter and James Biden.
[6] The investigation, which also includes the Judiciary and Ways and Means committees, had been briefly stalled amid a prolonged speaker fight last month.
[7] This comes as Hunter Biden's attorneys have asked House Speaker Mike Johnson to stop the investigations being pursued by both House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan.
[8] Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejem Majorcas testified before the Senate today, as lawmakers demand explanations regarding the impact the border crisis is having on cities across the nation.
[9] Over the last fiscal year, there have been over 2 .4 million encounters near the southern border.
[10] In October alone, around 240 ,000 people crossed the border into the U .S. During his testimony, Majorcas admitted that the country is experiencing the largest immigration numbers since World War II.
[11] He also said that the current immigration system is broken, but in spite of that, he and his colleagues have cooked up a plan.
[12] Our strategy includes expanded lawful pathways for migration, strengthened consequences for unlawful entry at the border, removing a record number of individuals found to be ineligible for protection under the law, and increased partnership across the region to curb irregular migration.
[13] The U .S. House voted to censure Democratic Representative Rashida Talib of Michigan late Tuesday night for her repeated promotion of what have been described as genocidal messages against the state of Israel.

[15] 22 Democrats joined Republicans for a final vote of 234 to 188, while four Republicans voted against censuring Talib.
[16] The resolution accused her of, quote, promoting false narratives regarding Hamas's October 7th attack on Israel and for calling for the destruction of the state of Israel.
[17] The resolution noted that the U .S. played a critical role in returning Israelis to their original homeland in 1948, immediately following the Holocaust.
[18] to lead defended her stance, as did other members of the so -called squad, saying she will not be silenced and will not let her words criticizing Israel be distorted.
[19] Anti -Israel protesters briefly disrupted a House Judiciary Committee hearing on free speech and anti -Semitism on college campuses.
[20] Right after committee chairman Jim Jordan swore in a witness, a protester shot up holding a pro -Palestinian sign.
[21] The protester interrupted a University of Buffalo graduate and former chairman of the school's young Americans, for Freedom Chapter, another protester shouted that the House Republicans, quote, tried to silence Rashida Talib.
[22] We appreciate people being here, but the committee has to be in order if you.
[23] We will remove every single person who disrupts the committee.
[24] The hearing was held to examine the state of the First Amendment on college campuses and the rise in anti -Semitism, anti -Israel sentiment, and violence toward pro -Israel students.
[25] voters in Ohio have added an amendment to the state's constitution that guarantees every Ohioan the right to quote one's own reproductive medical treatment including abortion up to the point of viability or beyond if deemed appropriate by the treating physician.
[26] This was seen as a huge win for abortion advocates while pro -life advocates say the conversation is far from over.
[27] The pro -life movement is more united than ever.
[28] We stand ready during this unthinkable time to advocate for women and the unborn, just as we have always done.
[29] Voters in Ohio also approved a ballot measure legalizing recreational marijuana, making the Buckeye state the 24th to do so.
[30] Voters in Kentucky have again defied the traditionally red -leaning nature of the state by electing a Democrat for governor.
[31] Incumbent Democratic Governor Andy Bashir won a hard -fought race against GOP State Attorney General Daniel Cameron.
[32] Kentucky made a choice.
[33] In his bid for a second term, Bashir touted the state's economic success and his response to various natural disasters.
[34] In Mississippi, incumbent Republican Governor Tate Reeves has also won a second term, defeating his Democrat challenger Brandon Presley, who conceded last night.
[35] Not too bad for what the Democrat super PAC, Mississippi today, called one of the most unpopular governors in America.
[36] Attacks from the Presley campaign and Democrats kept the race closer than most expected.
[37] But Reeves, through his campaigning and several important endorsements, including from former President Donald Trump, secured another win.
[38] In Virginia, after a sprawling effort by Republicans to gain full control of the legislature, Democrats hung on to control of the Senate and flipped the House.

[40] The results mean that Governor Glenn Yunkin and the legislature will likely butt heads over legislative priorities moving forward.
[41] The governor and his allies in the state had hoped to push for legislation on the economy, education, and public safety in the last two years of his term, which ends in 2025.
[42] Virginia Republicans also campaigned on a 15 -week abortion ban, with exceptions for cases of rape, incest, and risk to the life of a woman.
