[0] You're listening to Draft King's Network.

[1] Jeremy Tashay returns to the show.

[2] You just heard his baseball segment there, and I appreciate you following the sports, so I don't have to.

[3] You're very welcome.

[4] It's a midsummer classic.

[5] It's a big deal.

[6] You probably covered this.

[7] I'm not going to listen.

[8] So I'm asking you directly.

[9] Did they change anything about the home run derby?

[10] Whoa.

[11] I recorded it.

[12] Spoiler alert.

[13] Oh, okay.

[14] I can tell you about the structure of it.

[15] it without spoiling it for you.

[16] Does that work?

[17] No, that's boring.

[18] You can just talk about it.

[19] Okay.

[20] What did they do?

[21] Did they do anything differently?

[22] Yeah, so the first.

[23] Was anyone annoyed with it?

[24] Because we did this entire show, and this is all a bridge to get to the worst national anthem of all time.

[25] Trust me, we'll cover that here in this post game show.

[26] But everybody that I knew that was in my circle was consumed with the video game dropping last night.

[27] And I have never heard less about a home run derby.

[28] so much so that I don't even know what the rule changes might possibly be if there were any at all.

[29] So there were rule changes as there kind of seemed to be every single year with the home run derby.

[30] It feels like they're constantly trying to tweak it.

[31] But it was actually super competitive and really entertaining.

[32] The first round, every single hitter was not in a bracket.

[33] They were just competing against each other.

[34] So it was eight hitters and they had either three minutes or 40 pitches, which when you work out the amount of time, it's just about the same.

[35] The reason they kept it to 40 pitches was just so that you didn't have anybody basically speed swinging through the entire thing able to out home or somebody else.

[36] It ended up seeming unnecessary, but that was just to make sure that no one got like too many swings.

[37] It was guaranteeing that everybody had the same amount of pitches that they could see.

[38] And I think what that did is it made the pitchers that much more important.

[39] It was most important pitchers have ever been.

[40] I'm out on that because this contest, as long as I've seen it, it isn't so much about how far you can hit the ball and how consistently you can do that.

[41] It's how good your pitcher is.

[42] It does help.

[43] Look, having a good pitcher really matters in this one and you saw multiple examples.

[44] Billy, since you recorded it, I won't tell you specifically who suffered or who gained from a good pitcher.

[45] Best pitcher of all time, currently, Robinson Cano's dad.

[46] Kano's dad was the best.

[47] That old man lobbying up pitches to Josh Hamilton.

[48] That was also an all -timer.

[49] But what was good is this was a really competitive Derby.

[50] So like the first round, you had several guys within just a couple of home runs of each other trying to advance to the next round.

[51] You had upsets in that first round based off the betting odds.

[52] And then from there, it was cool because everyone kind of learned what the strategy needed to be, how they could handle their bonus pitches, how home run distance could be able to factor into all of that.

[53] And so in the end, it ended with basically in the final few seconds seeing whether or not, the guy who went second in the championship round could Homer in his final few pitches to get there and it ended within, well, a homer of each other.

[54] It was really, really, really entertaining and really, really, really fun.

[55] Billy, can you just shut your ears for a second, cover them up?

[56] Was DJ Iri there?

[57] I did not see DJ.

[58] I didn't see him this year.

[59] First time in a long time.

[60] It was the guy from S &L that's clearly trying to do a lot of marketing with baseball because he's Hispanic.

[61] Oh, the dude from down here.

[62] Yeah, he's like clearly, his agent is getting him involved in baseball.

[63] He was doing like the intros for everybody.

[64] Who won?

[65] I'll cover your ears.

[66] To Oscar Hernandez.

[67] It seemed like every team.

[68] Mike, you look like you don't know who that is.

[69] Is that one person or two?

[70] It seemed like every team that was represented had their second best home run hitter in the competition.

[71] That's funny, right.

[72] Otani wasn't in it.

[73] Philly's Harper wasn't in it.

[74] It was just like, who's the second best home run hitter on your team?

[75] Alec Bone was great though.

[76] He was really fun.

[77] And what was awesome is every.

[78] time that the cameras went up in the TV production element toward one of the players, they kept all the microphones on.

[79] And so you could kind of hear their side conversations.

[80] And Alec Bohm, when he advanced to the second round, he had a moment where he's just like, ah, just like everyone expected, but just talking to himself.

[81] It just happened to be that the camera was near him.

[82] And so he had some funny moments.

[83] I think people really enjoyed getting to see some of the personalities there and the bonding between the players that stuck around to watch all of it.

[84] So for me, it was the perfect setup for tonight's All -Star game with Paul Skeens on the bump.

[85] I'm stoked for that.

[86] So I did it.

[87] As I mentioned, I didn't hear anything about the home run derby until right now.

[88] However, I did see one thing.

[89] One thing transcended this event so much that it was shared in group chats all across America.

[90] And at one point, while we were playing CFB -25, someone just put it up to the headset and said, listen to this.

[91] This is indeed, Fergie is off the hook, the worst national anthem I have ever heard.

[92] heard who is this uh she was ingrid andres she still is she is a yeah i guess well for now well i i'm asking you because you usually know like these contemporary singers i've never heard of ingrid andres they said she was a four -time grammy nominated country singer and she is bad it's you guys want to hear the whole thing or just the parts that i like marked no whole thing whole thing let's do this Light What's so proud By the twilight Last gleam Who's broad stripes and bright stars Through Like Taylor Dallas, I guess God bless America Sounded like someone was poking her in the armpit at the end of every line Like It goes without saying I'm not going to say it.

[93] It goes without saying.

[94] What a riff.

[95] Whoa.

[96] Because the previous runs had gone so well for her, too.

[97] She's like, no, let me cook.

[98] Trippling down.

[99] Oh, dude.

[100] There's like this IG account that does like impersonations of like the indie folk singer that just does like a cover of an 80s pop song.

[101] And it, that felt more put on.

[102] That is so bad.

[103] At the, at the 63rd Grammys in 2021, she was nominated for Best.

[104] country song, best country artist, and best new artist.

[105] Is that wishful drinking?

[106] Best country album, I apologize.

[107] Best country song?

[108] Maybe I'm just wishful drinking.

[109] More hearts than mine.

[110] That's it.

[111] I mean, contemporary music's littered with auto tune.

[112] You got a live tune that thing.

[113] What's really amazing is her Wikipedia says fans and critics drew comparison between Andre's performance of the National Anthem and Fergie's rendition at the 2018 NBA All -Star Game.

[114] They've already put it on our Wikipedia.

[115] Well, so what made the Fergie one iconic outside of just how bad it was was like draymond's reaction to it and everyone trying to hold back laughter was there an element of that there was an alec bone moment of him they showed him on camera and it wasn't even at the worst part it was like earlier on when you could tell it was going the wrong way but it hadn't quite gotten there yet and you can see him kind of doing the same thing of like about to crack a smile kind of looking down on purpose knowing the camera was on him i'm kind of hoping that jason tatum runs into a bad anthem just so we can start copying everybody be Elsa's reaction to bad anthems.

[116] Oh, the thing with Ferggy, though, she was doing a thing.

[117] Like, she was trying to make it a jazzy.

[118] She was doing her, yeah, she was trying to make her own version of the Marvin gay.

[119] Maybe that's what was happening here.

[120] No. And it just went poorly.

[121] Good for her.

[122] We know her name now.
