[11] Hello, welcome to this week's edition of The Hockey Show.
[12] My name is Roy Bellamy.
[13] David Droke of the Hockey News is to my left.
[14] We're going to get into some league business in a second, but first we're going to talk about the candlelight vigils for Johnny and Matthew Cadro that happened earlier this week.
[15] And the scenes from Calgary and Columbus, as the fans and both teams got together to talking about Johnny and talk about his time with everybody there was certainly special.
[16] Yeah.
[17] It's just looking at these pictures.
[18] Like the reception really across the board was, you know, as it always should be.
[19] People are coming together.
[20] Like I like that there was like an Oilers fan holding a sign outside the Saddle Dome that said like, it doesn't matter what's on the front of your jersey right now or something like that.
[21] It was just like, you know, this is when, you know, everybody comes together.
[22] Yeah.
[23] And, you know, there was another, a memorial that was outside, I think, the Boston College, hockey rink.
[24] It's, yeah, I mean, it's going to be really sad, I think, also when the season starts.
[25] Because, you know, obviously, it's going to hit home a bit more when we get into the buildings and everybody's putting their gear on and they're doing their thing.
[26] Yeah, but once the patches get applied to both the flames and Blue Jackets' jerseys of number 13, that's going to be, that's going to be, that's going to be, really bittersweet you know like you the memory of Johnny Goodrow especially at Boston College that's that's gonna really resonate and that man had a lot more to give for this league and for his country with Team USA and for that to be extinguished like that it's not great you know no it's I mean anytime it's gonna suck it's sad it's awful it shouldn't happen And, yeah, just thinking about, like, how the reaction is going to be, when you're on the ice and you're getting ready to play a game and you're trying to get into that focus, and then you see those patches.
[27] Like, it's, yeah, we're all human, right?
[28] That's the thing I think people forget is these guys are humans.
[29] They're just like us.
[30] You know, we all put our pants on in the beginning of the day the same way.
[31] And, man, I'm sad for the season, man. And, you know, just thinking, you know, for our terms, I'm pretty sure the Blue Jackets' home opener is against Florida.
[32] So we're going to be covering, we're going to have, you know, a lot of eyeballs on that in terms of, like, you know, what we do and who we're around a lot.
[33] So it's going to be, you know, very front and center for a lot of us.
[34] Speaking of Jersey, he's called Caulfield of the Montreal Canadiens is changing his player's number to 13 in Johnny Goodroll's honor.
[35] And, I mean, you're going to see a lot of players making a lot of tributes to Johnny.
[36] and this one is when you're changing your player number, which is basically you're changing...
[37] Part of you.
[38] Yeah, part of you.
[39] It's like your identity.
[40] Yeah.
[41] I mean, that's a pretty special tribute right there.
[42] Yeah, and specifically, like, a guy like Colt -Hawfield, who's a smaller player.
[43] Like, you could argue that, like, his path to the NHL was kind of helped formed by a guy like Johnny Goddrow.
[44] You know, when you think about, like, the smaller stars in the NHL, there aren't many of them.
[45] Like, you think, like, a Theo Fleury when we were growing up.
[46] Yeah.
[47] But, you know, Johnny Goddrow did so much that people told him he'd never be able to do.
[48] So for someone like Cole Cofield, who kind of walked that similar path as a smaller player that's now reached the NHL and it's playing quite well.
[49] It's a touching tribute that I thought was really nice.
[50] And, you know, I think that's going to be something that, you know, it's just kind of like with the patches.
[51] But with the number particularly, it's such a nice honor.
[52] And it's just a really nice way to honor his memory, I think.
[53] Yes.
[54] Once again, from the hockey show, condolences to the Cadreau family.
[55] and to Johnny and Matthew, rest in power.
[56] Let's move on to league business.
[57] Leon Drysado of the Edmonton O'Donnell has got himself an extension.
[58] And it's a pretty big one, Dave.
[59] Eight years, 14 million AAV, the highest now in the league.
[60] Well, it will be when it kicks in next season out earning Austin Matthews 13 .25.
[61] All right, first off, before we get into the nitty -gritty, what was your reaction when you saw this massive number?
[62] for Leon Drysiddle, who, I know people are arguing, and you may be mentioning that he didn't really show up too well in the final.
[63] No. Now, credit to Sasha Barkov, who makes about $5 million less than Drysiddle, $4 million less than Drysiddle, but what was your reaction when you first saw this contract?
[64] Well, I got to say, I wonder what the number's going to be for Connor McDavid who's up next.
[65] He's got two years remaining on his current contract.
[66] And Leon Drysiddle had a quote regarding the Edmonton Oil as potentially hopeful.
[67] Hopefully, for them, extending the Connor McDavid's contract.
[68] He said, and I quote, as I always do, I sure hope he follows along and we can be our ride or dies for a long, long time.
[69] The man's German, first of all.
[70] He's using the term ride or die.
[71] I found that hilarious.
[72] Maybe he saw Will Smith and Martin Lawrence recently.
[73] I was thinking, like, he watched The Fast and the Furious movies.
[74] Oh, what?
[75] Well, because, like, I think back to, like, you know, like, what I think it was, was it, Evgeny Malkin, or somebody when they first came over, they didn't speak much English.
[76] All they did was, and I think, they quoted movie lines.
[77] No, no, no, he just watched Transformers over and over and over and over to learn English.
[78] And when somebody asked him, like, why is that movie?
[79] He's just like Megan Fox.
[80] Oh.
[81] So, but I wonder if, like, you know, as dry sidel, you know, he's German, but I don't know how well he spoke English when he got here.
[82] maybe he watched the Fast and the Furious movies a lot to help him, you know, acclimate so the ride or die thing.
[83] But I don't know, man. Like dry sidle's making $14 million.
[84] McDavid, you would think, is going to make, he's going to get more than dry sidle.
[85] Yeah.
[86] So they're going to have like between a quarter and a third of their whole salary cap.
[87] That's not a lot to build a team around when you got that little left on your salary cap.
[88] That's going to be like, what are you going to do?
[89] for the rest of your, who's going to be the other forward on the first line?
[90] Well, and, but also, like, look back to this past year's final, I think is a great kind of way to view it because you got Florida, and this is even before Edmonton had all their money tied up to their top guys, but, like, you got Florida who, you got a lot of guys with team -friendly deals, which allows them to basically outfit an entire fourth line with, like, good money to spend.
[91] You can, you know, if you didn't spend a million plus on your whole fourth line, each player, like, you're going to be doing okay because that's your depth.
[92] and Florida's depth was their, you know, arguably one of their biggest strengths over the past couple years, but particularly this year when everybody didn't get hurt like they did last year against Vegas.
[93] But, yeah, having those couple extra million, those two or three extra million, that goes a long way towards your depth when you get into the nitty -gritty moments of the season.
[94] I was looking at the top 50 on the cap hit list right now for all the players.
[95] Alexander Barkoff and Sergey Broboski are both tied for 15th at $10 million on their cap hit.
[96] and that's time for 15th.
[97] The next player is 28th on this list, and that's Matthew Kachuk.
[98] I mean, and then San Reinhardt, who just got extended to his camp hit, who's going to hit later.
[99] 57 goals, and he signed for, oh, what is it, 8 .62 or 8 .26 or something, 8 .5 million, basically, for, you know, 50 goals score.
[100] Yeah.
[101] Thank you, Ethan, our co -producer today.
[102] And he said that in our years.
[103] He did not say it.
[104] He said that in your year.
[105] You know, 8 .625 is the number.
[106] I just, I wanted to thank Ethan and welcome him to the show because he's filling in furrows so admirable.
[107] Ethan, you can't turn your mic by the way.
[108] It's the EP mic, the second, second for the day.
[109] That's not the right mic.
[110] It's second from the left.
[111] He's filling in perfectly for those.
[112] Yeah, exactly.
[113] It's second from the left nearest you.
[114] EP mic.
[115] Thank you.
[116] That's what I just said.
[117] EP mic, Steve Martin, also.
[118] Yeah, I was going to say Sam Ryanhart's 48th on this list, and that's before his cap hit for him.
[119] his extension actually does take effect.
[120] It's going to be a little bit higher.
[121] So, yeah, I mean, that's team -friendly deals.
[122] It's important.
[123] Yeah, I mean, that's how you win Stanley Cups.
[124] And I don't want to hear the argument about no sales tax in Florida and blah, blah, blah, bullshit, because there's been no sales tax in Florida the whole time the Panthers have existed.
[125] Yeah, 30 years of no income tax.
[126] They all of a sudden figured out this amazing little trick -cane.
[127] in the fight.
[128] No, man, it's like there's more to it than just that.
[129] They've built a culture down here, and it all starts with what Bill Zito has done, started by bringing in the guys like Hornquest and Gudis, and those guys, I don't want to hear this anymore.
[130] You're tired of it.
[131] I'm over it.
[132] On the other side of things, though, in Boston, the spitting chicklegs guys, Ryan Whitney in particular said he had a source saying that Jeremy Swayman, who by the way, The Bruins get rid of Linus O'Mark for Jeremy Swayman.
[133] Right now the Bruins are low -balling Jeremy Swamman.
[134] I don't get that at all.
[135] Yeah.
[136] They're offering right now, four years, $6 .2 million per on the AVV.
[137] According to Ryan Whitney's sources.
[138] Yeah, that's what Ryan Whitney is saying according to his source.
[139] For 25 -year -old Jeremy Swayman, who's just entering the prime of his year, the prime of his career, who was arguably the best goalie, the first round of the playoffs last year.
[140] I know the second round of the playoffs last year.
[141] The first and second round.
[142] Confusing seasons.
[143] Because he was amazing against Toronto last year when Boston beat them in seven.
[144] And then he was really good against the Panthers, even though the Panthers beat them in six.
[145] Swayman kept them in a lot of those games.
[146] Yeah, yeah.
[147] So it made sense when they traded Olmark, like, oh, have fun in Ottawa.
[148] And Olmark's comments, by the way, he said, I think, yesterday he likes it in Ottawa because he doesn't hear the sirens or anything anymore.
[149] It's just silence, which he loves.
[150] So, you know, happy for you, Lina.
[151] I'm glad he didn't go to D .C. But I don't get that at all.
[152] Like this Swayman could be like that next level goaltender coming into his prime on a great team in Boston that always seems to be good and defensive and smart.
[153] Yeah.
[154] What are they thinking?
[155] The other thing about this is they low -balled him on that offer.
[156] That's what I'm saying.
[157] What are they thinking?
[158] And they haven't called them back in three weeks.
[159] Three weeks they haven't talked to him.
[160] So they made him the low -ball offer and then they're like, all right, just let us know when you say yes.
[161] Yeah, sweat it out.
[162] And let us know, or a counteroffer or something.
[163] I hope that's not true, because that sounds like a not great way of negotiating, especially with like, unless they're not viewing Swayman is what we all assume they should be viewing him as, which is their goalie of the current end of the future, then there's no one else in the cupboard, right?
[164] I'm not sure what Boston's goaltending situation is, but I don't think they've got somebody that's going to step in right now and be that next guy.
[165] Yeah.
[166] I mean, the spitting chicklets crew, just like the missing curfewed crew, they have their hand in the pulse.
[167] I mean, the former players, they got their sources within the teams, and I'm willing to believe what Ryan Whitney is saying based on his source.
[168] But Jesus Christ, four years, $6 .2 million for somebody who's that young, who is that good?
[169] Get out of here.
[170] They did trade for Yornis Corpusalo, who's got a decently sized contract.
[171] but again they made that trade one should not have to deal with the other I don't think it's you gotta take care of Swayman yeah you have to I wouldn't mind seeing him leave Boston because it's a team in Florida's division and I'm not particularly prone to liking Boston sports teams because I'm a South Florida sports guy so you know in that regard cool but for my fellow goaltender Swayman like dude I I hope they take care of your brother yeah the Bruins the past two seasons in regards to when they played a goaltender in how they pay their goaltenders and what they do with the contracts of the goaltenders a bit questionable.
[172] I mean, you remember last season when the Panthers upset the Bruins who happened to be the best regular season team in the history of the league that year.
[173] Yeah, O'Mark was injured and they continued to play him.
[174] I mean, it's a bit different when, you know, it's one of the position players, you know, I mean, they like tend to play through these things.
[175] But when it's a goaltender, that's a completely different situation.
[176] I don't know what they were doing in that situation, playing a very much injured Allmark.
[177] And now they're doing – and now they trade away Allmark to make Swainman the primary goaltender.
[178] And they're doing this too?
[179] I mean, that's – once he gets to extension time again, I mean, there can't be any way that he's going to stay on that team.
[180] No, and you just kind of wonder also.
[181] Like, are the Bruins kind of, you know, on the downward slip?
[182] Because they've lost a lot of talent over the last few years.
[183] Yeah, I mean.
[184] And, you know, Marshan's not getting any younger.
[185] Oh, and Marshan, three surgeries in the off -season.
[186] Three.
[187] Three.
[188] I mean, what he was playing with in that Florida series apparently was major.
[189] Yeah, he didn't look like himself.
[190] And you won, like, maybe it's age, but yeah, he.
[191] Maybe he's age.
[192] I'm not even including the punch of the face by Sam Bennett.
[193] No, that wasn't part of the.
[194] Or him trying to, or that check that.
[195] tried to lay later in the game which he, which is how he got concussed.
[196] Yeah, he took more of the brunt.
[197] Yeah.
[198] It's, yeah, you have to wonder what's the one on in Boston.
[199] Yeah.
[200] You know what?
[201] We have this conversation and they're still going to find a way to be a top three team because it's Boston.
[202] Yes.
[203] Before we get out of here, and we talked about this on the big show, uh, just a bit after the Stanley Cup final.
[204] The Stanley Cup is now back in town.
[205] It was overseas for a little bit.
[206] with the finish players, but now it's back in South Florida.
[207] So what would you do with the Stanley Cup, if you had a day with him?
[208] We're going to ask Ethan as well.
[209] What would you do?
[210] We're going to start with Ethan since he's in the other room.
[211] What would you do with the Stanley Cup for a day?
[212] You put me on the spot here.
[213] The first thing I do is, inspired by Sam Bennett, I would eat fruity pebbles out of the ice cream or something.
[214] I would totally eat something out of the same.
[215] I was thinking like some Captain Crunch, like Sam Bennett or some Crunch I'm more of a crunch berries guy.
[216] But yeah, I thought that's one thing I would have liked to do.
[217] Because cereal is such a pure thing.
[218] I love the guys that go golfing with it.
[219] Like, I think that's so cool.
[220] Yeah, you can't use it as a teed off course.
[221] No, absolutely.
[222] You need someone to, like, carry it, though.
[223] The catty?
[224] I mean, he's always got the bad.
[225] I think I just hold it the entire day.
[226] Just hug it.
[227] Just look at it.
[228] Just put it on.
[229] I think Matthew Kachuk said on a podcast recently that he just, like, put it on a table.
[230] Yes.
[231] Just stared at it.
[232] That's what I'm, that's what I'm, that's sleep with it.
[233] You're going to end up like Alexander Vreskin to sleep with it.
[234] That's a classic picture of OV.
[235] That would be me too.
[236] Like I'd have it in the bed, like cuddling with it, like falling asleep.
[237] I mean, how could you not?
[238] It's the Stanley Cup.
[239] It's your day with it.
[240] You have to go to sleep at some point unless you just spend 24 hours a week with it.
[241] Well, the whole 24 -hour thing is kind of like a, it's not actually 24 hours.
[242] A lot of the guys get it for like 12 to 14 hours or something like that.
[243] Yeah.
[244] Yeah, like I don't know.
[245] I mean, it has to be a special request, you know, and like you want to have.
[246] You want to sleep with the cup.
[247] And the other thing about this is, is Phil in the room?
[248] Like, is the keeper of the cup going to be in the room as you sleep?
[249] It's like on the Bachelorette or something.
[250] Like, you get the fantasy suite with the Stanley Cup, but there's cameras everywhere.
[251] And it's like, yeah, it's kind of romantic.
[252] This is something I think about all the time is when does he go, like, at what point does he go away?
[253] When do you get his, even when he, we're talking about the cup?
[254] No, we're talking about Phil.
[255] But even when he goes away, like, he's just going away to the couch.
[256] Like, he's not leaving the house.
[257] We've talked to him about this.
[258] He slept on couches across the globe.
[259] Can't have a pillow age?
[260] Is that the coolest gig?
[261] If you can handle the travel, yeah.
[262] I mean, I imagine it's tedious because of all the places you have to go and you're schlepping this 40 -pound cup that has to be taken excellent care of.
[263] But, I mean, aside from that.
[264] He must have the most amazing stories.
[265] I mean, I know he does.
[266] You know, he's been on the show and everything, but like.
[267] We need to have our own South Beach session with him.
[268] Yes.
[269] Yes.
[270] Yeah, have a nice hour with him.
[271] to regale, you know, honest stories and whatnot.
[272] That'd be a good one.
[273] Yeah, for me, it's always going to be food because I'm always hungry all the time.
[274] I was thinking that you'd, like, find a way to smoke an old fashion in the cup.
[275] Oh, smoked old fashion.
[276] Man, do you know how much whiskey's going to have to go into that for a smoked old fashion?
[277] And then you've got to find a wood and the guy having, like, a big chunk of wood.
[278] It's the Stanley Cup, dude.
[279] You'd figure it out.
[280] that's going to smell like hickory for years about yeah i wonder if they'd let you actually yeah probably not like poor risky it would have to be crown royal some Canadian club point i think it's the cup man like i feel like my goal for this sorry to interrupt yeah my goal for this summer was to drink out of the cup but my goal for this summer now is to get roy to drink out of the cup like that needs to happen at some point it's felt a little fomo i'll be honest like seeing a lot of like the cup has been like it's been having oysters this week and i see like you know some of our colleagues and news or somehow drinking out of it, and I'm like, man, I, you know, I'm like, I want to.
[281] Like, is that wrong?
[282] Why are we not getting these memos?
[283] That's my thing is, where is the cup?
[284] I keep seeing people with it.
[285] I'm like, why is nobody telling me or the show or anybody where the cup is?
[286] I will be there.
[287] Roy has to drink out of the cup at some point.
[288] It has to happen.
[289] I hope so.
[290] I would absolutely love to.
[291] If Bill or the Panthers organization would allow such a thing that happened, which I doubt because I'm just a freaking guy.
[292] No, but that's the thing.
[293] Like, I'm seeing like some of our local news colleagues drinking from the cup over the last few days.
[294] How's O .J. McDuffie drinking from the cup?
[295] But that's the, and that's cool.
[296] I just want to find out how do I get in that line?
[297] How do I get on that text chain?
[298] Like, yeah, I'll take a number.
[299] Right?
[300] Like, I'll, I don't tell me where to go.
[301] I'll be there.
[302] I have a couple friends that were at the elbow room the day they like the morning after.
[303] Nice.
[304] And one of them like literally touched the cup as Aaron Eckberg was walking by with it.
[305] And I'm just like, how did you get in there?
[306] How did you get a picture with it?
[307] Drink out of it.
[308] And it's totally different because like going to the Hall of Fame or to an all -star event or whatever and seeing the cup there and taking a picture of it.
[309] That's cool.
[310] That's one thing.
[311] But to be a part of like a celebration moment and like touch it when they're, you know, getting drunk with it or like have them pour beer.
[312] That's a completely.
[313] That's poor beer on you from the cup.
[314] Yeah, absolutely.
[315] I don't see it at some point in the next season because it'll be at the arena, I imagine, plenty of times while we own the cup, but I want it to actually, I want it to be authentic, like celebrating the Panthers winning the cup.
[316] Exactly, exactly.
[317] So hopefully, I'll drink whatever booze they pour in that thing.
[318] I'll drink apple juice out of it.
[319] I'll drink absent.
[320] I'll drink that nasty stuff that's in Chicago that tastes bitter as well.
[321] Oh, Everclear?
[322] No, what was the, there was like a blue one that, like, was popular when I was a kid that was an Afton.
[323] Everclear.
[324] Oh, the hypnotic?
[325] Oh, hypnotic.
[326] Oh, hypnotic.
[327] Oh, hypnotic.
[328] Here's my plea to the Panthers and the NHAL.
[329] Bring the cup to the bright side.
[330] It's the hockey bar.
[331] It's where it went crazy during the cup.
[332] Bring it to the bright side.
[333] Roy, you've got to come next season, first of all.
[334] Can't believe you've never been there.
[335] There's got to be a road game.
[336] A road game.
[337] I'm going to be at Ameren Bank.
[338] We should do like a hockey show watch party or something.
[339] A watch party, something like that would be great.
[340] We're spitballing on the show here.
[341] We're doing a production meeting.
[342] the bright side.
[343] I'm telling you.
[344] Where's Rose?
[345] That's what I'm trying to get this planned.
[346] Rose's antlers are sticking up from whatever, whatever college town she's in right now.
[347] Yeah, so, yeah, that's an excellent idea.
[348] Bring the cup to the right.
[349] Where is the bright side, anyway?
[350] Down in the gables on Coralway.
[351] Dude, the gables?
[352] Yeah.
[353] I got a travel already down there.
[354] Bring it down there.
[355] We'll have a great time.
[356] We'll make our annual trip to the U .M. area.
[357] Yeah.
[358] You've got to go down at least once a year.
[359] But if we do this, we got to plan a stop at the big cheese.
[360] Oh.
[361] Bring it to the infield too I know that's your guy's spot after the game Yeah I'm surprised that wasn't there yet A Stanley Cup at the infield That's a vision Yes yes That's a vision I probably can't even fit in there It's so small The infield That's the spot man That's the spot Like the infield is where we usually Go after games You know for a quick drink And for most of us to finish stories And then before If you come to the infield 90 minutes after a Panther game You are probably going to see at least two people, either at the bar or near the bar, on their laptops, clanking away with their drinking hand.
[362] Like, that's how it should be.
[363] And George Richards, being the host.
[364] George is the mayor of Sunrise.
[365] Yes, George is absolutely the mayor of sunrise.
[366] He's been the mayor of sunrise for, like, once he got back from Columbus.
[367] What was that, like 10 years ago?
[368] Yeah.
[369] We'll see him soon.
[370] We're going to see him at Golf Monday.
[371] Oh, yes.
[372] Yeah, yeah.
[373] Let's talk about that, actually.
[374] Goody's a golf tournament.
[375] What's the official name of that?
[376] The Goldies Gang Golf Classic, I believe.
[377] Yes, we are going to be there.
[378] Rose is going to bring her camera because she can't swing a golf club.
[379] But, yeah, she's going to bring her camera, and we are going to film some stuff for the hockey show of me slicing.
[380] Slicing and Dyson.
[381] Slicing and Dyson.
[382] That ball is going to go straight to the right.
[383] Like, boom, over there to the right.
[384] Yeah, we don't need to keep score when we golf.
[385] We just go out there.
[386] We have a little fog.
[387] Well, you don't need to keep score.
[388] I certainly don't need to score.
[389] happened in my head 20 as long as i get out of the get out of the round with like a par or two or god you know a birdie you know a rare birdie like i'm pretty happy yeah uh god rolling uh we we play in uh in front of jeff remer i'm pretty sure you know like you take it too long last year i'm pretty sure we got to like the 15th hole and we just said you know let's just go drink yeah we just didn't even finish yeah let's just go to clubhouse and uh get some whiskey something yeah yeah so yeah that's up that's up uh september 16th that uh um Coral Ridge Country Club.
[390] Yeah.
[391] If you haven't signed up yet, it's always a fun time.
[392] We are a month away from a training camp in the season starting.
[393] Less than that.
[394] Media days in like three weeks, less than three weeks.
[395] Oh, we're going to be there too.
[396] Yeah, we'll be at Media Day.
[397] There's a lot going on.
[398] I've been having some fun with our Panthers summer content, our hockey content this summer and everything.
[399] But, yeah, hockey season's right around the corner.
[400] We have, like, maybe one or two more shows before, like, they're back on the ice.
[401] We got stuff.
[402] Yeah, hockey season is right around the game.
[403] corner and we just turned from the corner of which the Stanley Cup was actually awarded.
[404] I mean, it's just, like, there's no rest for the rearing, man. I'll tell you right now.
[405] Well, before we wrap up the show, because you did bring up the Stanley Cup being awarded, Ethan's got something for us to remind us of that.
[406] Ethan?
[407] All right, we have made it from Amory and Begarena to the infield, which is a couple blocks down.
[408] Why do you...
[409] Why do you hurt I, man?
[410] Why?
[411] So people thought that you were drunk already.
[412] when you did that.
[413] I wasn't.
[414] No. We had not, our drinks were to the brim, had not been touched yet.
[415] We had just walked in the infield.
[416] We started talking to people.
[417] Yeah.
[418] Can't confirm.
[419] We had not, we were drunk on victory.
[420] We got, we came straight from the arena.
[421] We were, ourselves celebrating on the ice, you know, we were like, I didn't want to leave.
[422] No. We were like one of the last people on the ice.
[423] Yeah.
[424] There was not much there when we left.
[425] Nope, nope, not much there at all.
[426] And we left and we got straight, we went straight to the infirm.
[427] field, walked in, we talked about how we were going to talk to the patrons there, and we got to work.
[428] We got to work.
[429] I didn't have a single sip.
[430] No, like within 30 to 45 minutes of that being recorded, we had a few sips.
[431] But no, at that moment, which is what I love about that video, we're just sober drunk.
[432] Yeah.
[433] We're just so happy drunk.
[434] Yeah.
[435] It was just an awesome night.
[436] Joy drunk.
[437] Yeah.
[438] Yeah, it was exhilaration, you know, because.
[439] It's like one of your kids born.
[440] Yeah, I mean, because we're Panthers fans and we like to pretend like we're professional, well, we are professional.
[441] We're hockey fans.
[442] We grew up as hockey fans and we did it in a market where it's not like, you're not born into it.
[443] There's no, you know, you're not watching with your parents or with your friends.
[444] Like hockey was very new when we were kids and we were a couple of the people that it just gravitated us toward it.
[445] And we fell in love with this sport very naturally.
[446] And so to have this happen for us, it was, it was monumental.
[447] It was a big deal for us.
[448] Dan often tells this story of Gonzo, of Poppy, because once 96 happened and they made their run and it started to get a lot more popular down here, apparently Gonzo thought the puck was metal.
[449] He didn't know that it was rubber.
[450] He thought, vulcanized rubber.
[451] He thought it was metal, which would hurt a lot more if that's the case.
[452] I'm choking on that idea as a goaltender.
[453] Oh, no. I mean, it's a bullet.
[454] The sound effects would be great.
[455] The bruises wouldn't.
[456] Can you imagine?
[457] Can you imagine the sound of that metal puck?
[458] Well, you'd need to wear like a suit of armor as a goalie.
[459] Yeah, but can you imagine that sound hit in the post?
[460] Bink.
[461] Earth's shattering.
[462] It'd be like the Little League World Series was in town.
[463] Yes.
[464] We're going to try to talk more hockey next week.
[465] I'm sure there'll be like some league news or something.
[466] But right now, this is all season.
[467] and we are just trying to get to the preseason at this point.
[468] So David Jorke and Ethan, what the fuck is your last name again?
[469] Because it's unpronounceable?
[470] It's Bedowski.
[471] That guy, Roy Bellamy, this is the hockey show.
[472] We'll talk to you next week.
