[6] It's Monday, December 19th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.

[7] The House January 6th Committee recommended Monday that the Justice Department bring criminal charges against former President Donald Trump.

[8] The panel voted unanimously to recommend charges against the former president on four counts.

[9] Obstruction of an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to make a false statement, and efforts to incite, assist, or aid, or comfort, and insurrection.

[10] This is the first time that the House has ever recommended criminal charges against a former president.

[11] The committee's full report will be available to the public on Wednesday.

[12] Amber Hurd has agreed to settle her defamation suit against Johnny Depp for $1 million.

[13] Hurd has agreed to pay several million to Depp as a result of their court case earlier this year.

[16] Elon Musk created a poll on Twitter on Sunday asking if he should step down as the platform's CEO.

[17] and said he would abide by the results.

[18] When the informal poll closed Monday morning, 57 .5 % of the 17 .5 million voters said yes, Musk should step down.

[19] Musk has not yet responded to the poll results.

[20] Extreme turbulence on a flight from Phoenix to Honolulu Sunday resulted in nearly a dozen people being sent to the hospital with serious injuries.

[21] Newly elected mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass will start moving some of the 40 ,000 -plus homeless people from the streets of the city into hotels and motels.

[26] Some are profoundly mentally ill. Some are profoundly addicted.

[27] So we're going to launch a program called Inside Safe, which is going to address the people that are in the tents.

[29] The country has been in a state of emergency after the president, President Pedro Castillo was ousted and arrested.

[30] Civil unrest and protests forced train and air travel to close down.

[31] The country says trains out of Machu Picchu, which is a popular destination for international travelers, are now operating on an emergency basis.

[32] One of the most famous actresses in Iran has been arrested on charges of spreading falsehoods about nationwide protests in the country.

[33] Tarana Aladusti, who starred an Oscar -winning movie, The Salesman, posted support of Mosin Shikari on Instagram.

[34] Shikari was executed in Tehran earlier this month after being convicted of blocking a street and allegedly attacking police with a machete.

[35] On CBS's Face the Nation on Sunday, Democratic Senator Joe Manchin was asked about changing his party status to become independent after Kirsten Cinema switched to independent earlier this month.
