Giant Bombcast XX
[0] Hey, everyone.
[1] It is Tuesday, October the 26th, 2010, and you are listening to The Giant Bombcast.
[2] I'm Ryan Davis, joined by Vinny Caravella.
[3] Hey, man. How are your shoulders?
[4] How's your back?
[5] How's your business?
[6] It feels like I have undone all the good that was done.
[7] I went for my first massage today.
[8] Nice.
[9] And it's something I've been talking about for about five years.
[10] And so you had about 45 minutes of feeling good, and now you're just all...
[11] Back up.
[12] I feel like I did.
[13] Let's back up.
[14] That was a bummer.
[15] We'll see if we can work that out with the help of Jeff Gerstman.
[16] Hello.
[17] I'm a licensed chiropractor, and I'm ready to help you.
[18] Lay on the table, please, sir.
[19] And Brad Shoemaker.
[20] I brought my magic fingers.
[21] Ah, great.
[22] I didn't know your fingers were magic.
[23] Oh, you'll find out later.
[24] Ooh.
[25] This is going to be exciting.
[26] episode shiatsu or no it was a tissue yeah have you ever you're supposed to like hurt like afterwards right that's supposed to be there was isn't that the russian stuff you're supposed to hurt for a while well i mean the is that the one where ladies in high heels walk on your back massage is i mean it's different than chiropractors that's I know, but I was just talking to somebody who got a deep tissue massage.
[27] I felt like sick afterwards because of all the toxins that were released.
[28] That's what I heard, too.
[29] I was kind of hoping for that.
[30] Did you grasp crystals while this was being done?
[31] Yeah, I think that's when it's supposed to.
[32] She did say I might be sore, but I am now judging all massages by this one person who gave me a massage.
[33] Oh, that's what a massage is.
[34] Okay.
[35] So wait, hold on.
[36] Your wife just gave you a quick little shoulder rub down.
[37] She actually just punched me in the kidneys.
[38] That's what a massage is.
[39] Sent me on the way.
[40] Happy Monday.
[41] It felt great for a while.
[42] Once I stopped peeing blood.
[43] After the shock wore off.
[44] No, it was great.
[45] It was an hour long, which sounds like a really long time, but time flies by when you're thinking about all the weird things with your body that this person is now exploring.
[46] I've never even touched that part.
[47] Oh, yeah.
[48] You just want to avoid that part.
[49] Just move on.
[50] There's a detour sign right there.
[51] You're like, oh, it feels good, but I still feel shame.
[52] Yeah.
[53] Oh, nobody's been there in a while.
[54] Yeah, it was cool.
[55] But I actually did want, like thinking back, I want one of those like crazy, just manhandle me. This is a huge dude.
[56] I want you to roll me into a ball.
[57] Guy in the white polo shirt.
[58] No, no shirt.
[59] Just like a towel.
[60] Like Zangief style.
[61] Like dude in a towel.
[62] Guy's walking and goes, hey.
[63] Yeah.
[64] No, it doesn't even speak English.
[65] Like, duh.
[66] Just starts punching me in the back.
[67] The only words he knows are lay down.
[68] Yeah.
[69] Okay.
[70] All right.
[71] Like a Turkish bath just kind of like pounding the crap out of me. Because like when she was in there, I mean, there are parts that actually hurt.
[72] And like, you know, I'm not going to be like, stop.
[73] Take it.
[74] Take it.
[75] Those felt the best after she stopped, you know, when she was, like, released the pressure.
[76] So I kind of, like, want more of that.
[77] Maybe I'm just masochistic.
[78] I don't know.
[79] Just learning things about yourself here.
[80] Then I played Super Meat Boy.
[81] That was great.
[82] Then the pain really came on.
[83] Anyway, enough about my massages.
[84] Never enough about your massages.
[85] You know what?
[86] I may go back someday.
[87] It's after every trip I've ever been on, like, working around out here in California, crazy California with your hippie weed.
[88] Right.
[89] I've always been like, yeah, I should go for a massage after that because my shoulders would kill me and everything.
[90] I never went.
[91] So I felt like this was, you know, four years built up.
[92] I thought it was just going to spill out of my mouth or something.
[93] No such love.
[94] You should start throwing up in the middle of this.
[95] That's TGS 2009.
[96] Look at that.
[97] There goes that Forza interview.
[98] Jeff, how you doing?
[99] I'm doing all right.
[100] Yeah.
[101] Yeah.
[102] I don't know.
[103] How was your weekend?
[104] That's okay.
[105] I went out for pancakes.
[106] I ate pancakes at a firehouse.
[107] You went to a pancake feed?
[108] I went to a pancake feed.
[109] Oh, where was the pancake feed?
[110] Point Racer.
[111] At the firehouse?
[112] Yeah, at the firehouse.
[113] What is that?
[114] Is that like a fundraiser?
[115] Yeah.
[116] Pancake feed.
[117] Never heard of that.
[118] It's like six bucks and, you know, it's like they got...
[119] Go and eat some damn pancakes.
[120] Hang out and have firemen serve you pancakes and eggs and sausage and stuff.
[121] Flapjacks.
[122] They were giving kids rides in fire trucks.
[123] I thought about hanging out trying to ride a fire truck.
[124] It was raining out, so no. The plate sounds like a weekend ender anyway.
[125] And that was Sunday morning.
[126] So the rest of Sunday just went straight out the window.
[127] We were just like, God's nap time.
[128] I like the smell of a firehouse.
[129] Like there's like a weird plastic rub.
[130] There's a rubber smell to everything that I really enjoy.
[131] And I think I could identify the smell of a fire.
[132] It's more of a breakfast smell.
[133] Yeah.
[134] So it wasn't really they had all the trucks outside.
[135] You know, it's like people eating where the trucks are normally parked to go smell the trucks.
[136] I did not smell the trucks.
[137] It was raining.
[138] It was raining really hard.
[139] That's a bummer.
[140] Yeah, the smell of the trucks probably would have been washed off in the rain.
[141] That new truck smell.
[142] My dad was a volunteer fireman, so I used to go and smell the trucks.
[143] Ah.
[144] A lot.
[145] And the foosball table.
[146] Was that his job?
[147] What did that foosball table smell like?
[148] To smell the truck?
[149] Was he a truck smeller?
[150] No, but they had cleanup every week, and they'd just wash the trucks every week.
[151] So we'd go hang out.
[152] Firehouses have awesome bars.
[153] I don't know if you got to see the bar in the firehouse.
[154] I feel like that's like in the stipulation.
[155] They had to be a fireman.
[156] Awesome bar.
[157] Like in the firehouse?
[158] Yeah, totally.
[159] I didn't see any of that either.
[160] Kind of crazy people have bars in the workplace.
[161] Yeah.
[162] It seems wildly inappropriate.
[163] Guys ought to put out fires, you know.
[164] If you're going to be putting out a fire, you might as well have one or two in you.
[165] That's a good point.
[166] I see some holes in logic, but I'm going to let it slide.
[167] I totally felt like when I was growing up, I was like, yeah, fuck yeah.
[168] Especially volunteer firemen.
[169] Throw a couple of them back.
[170] Oh, this is fire.
[171] Let's do this.
[172] I'm not even getting paid.
[173] I've got to put out some fires.
[174] Risk my life.
[175] A couple of shots.
[176] Let's go.
[177] Fuck yeah.
[178] That's the least you could do.
[179] Yeah, just make them braver.
[180] Plus, they can blow fireballs.
[181] I don't know.
[182] Try to dig the flask out of their suit when they're just like, no, I've got to get it.
[183] They were fun guys at that firehouse.
[184] Bunch of fun.
[185] Man, they could drink.
[186] Could they cook?
[187] Well, it probably helped.
[188] Yeah.
[189] Big, huge barbecues.
[190] I bet they could cook, right?
[191] Yeah, totally.
[192] They're a great bunch of guys.
[193] Chili.
[194] Firehouse Chili.
[195] Yeah.
[196] Great Christmas parties.
[197] You know, pancake feeds at the firehouse pretty regularly.
[198] This is the first time I've ever been to a pancake feed.
[199] It was just like...
[200] The word feed just brings to mind like a trough.
[201] You know, I could have gone back up and gotten more.
[202] I opted not to.
[203] It's like 4 -H would do it.
[204] Yeah.
[205] Kiwanis Club.
[206] Yeah, the Kiwanis would do a pancake feed.
[207] Guys that would wear a fez.
[208] Think about civics.
[209] That's the Shriners, right?
[210] Yep.
[211] What was your charity fundraiser food event of your youth?
[212] I don't know what that means.
[213] Clearly there has to be like...
[214] It's got to have some kind of like, you know, waffle.
[215] A waffle style.
[216] I don't think I've ever...
[217] Yeah.
[218] Chili Feed or...
[219] There's been plenty of stuff like that around, but I have literally never, ever been to one until...
[220] Sure, sure.
[221] You're even at least aware that that stuff exists.
[222] Yeah, I think we did more distributed fundraising, like candy sale and stuff.
[223] Sure, I mean...
[224] Door Door.
[225] Those candy bars were good, too.
[226] Those almond...
[227] Did you sell candy bars as a kid?
[228] Yeah.
[229] Raise money for your local...
[230] Something.
[231] X, insert X here.
[232] They told us to do it.
[233] Breakdancing Club.
[234] They need that money.
[235] My dad would just buy a bunch of them because they were some good -ass candy bars.
[236] My neighbor was a real profiteer, though.
[237] He bought candy on his own and sold it at school.
[238] Nice.
[239] Like 25 cents a pot.
[240] You didn't get busted at school for that?
[241] No, he did.
[242] Yeah, there were kids selling gumdingers at school when I was in elementary school.
[243] Airheads were big.
[244] Gotchas were the big thing.
[245] There were those super sour things.
[246] Right, yeah.
[247] Pleasant to eat.
[248] I think this was before the big sour craze.
[249] Late 80s, early 90s.
[250] What was the hot?
[251] I was just eating a bunch of Warheads earlier over the weekend.
[252] Yeah, I was going to ask.
[253] It was back when candy was candy.
[254] I was about to ask, what was the hot equivalent of the gacha?
[255] Was it the Warhead?
[256] Yeah, I guess.
[257] Like super hot?
[258] Oh, no, the Warhead was the sour.
[259] Oh, okay.
[260] The hot, like a hot tamale?
[261] Regional brands then or something, I don't know.
[262] Big red gum.
[263] That's as hot as it got back then.
[264] Oh, spicy.
[265] Oh, Jesus.
[266] Ah, ah, ah.
[267] It's like cinnamon, but more so.
[268] I don't like this.
[269] He put like three in his mouth.
[270] I don't like this at all.
[271] I just hit the Kmart over the weekend and bought a bag of, they have just sour candy.
[272] Just one of the big like Halloween candy bags.
[273] Theme bags.
[274] Oh, Halloween.
[275] Here, just all the sour candy.
[276] I'm like, I like some sour candy.
[277] What are you talking about?
[278] Smarties?
[279] There were some extra sour Smarties.
[280] I also bought a separate bag of just Smarties because.
[281] Yeah.
[282] You like some Smarties.
[283] I do.
[284] Around Halloween time.
[285] Yeah, anytime.
[286] I mean, anytime.
[287] But when it's around Halloween time, you can kind of justify it.
[288] Easier to find, I think.
[289] Yeah, that's true also.
[290] I just have a box of full -size Twix bars that I bought for myself like two, three months ago.
[291] And I've only eaten like one or two of them because I'm like, that's a lot of candy bars.
[292] So I think if anyone comes by for Halloween.
[293] They're getting full -size candy bars.
[294] Word will get out fast.
[295] Full -size candy bars.
[296] And then what's going to happen when those things go?
[297] You're just going to get egged.
[298] I got to go back to Costco.
[299] Somebody's going to egg your house.
[300] Man, Twix bar.
[301] We won't be back home by the time trick -or -treating happens.
[302] It's like Sunday or something.
[303] Oh, shit.
[304] We're boned.
[305] I'm trying to decide if I want to go out.
[306] I don't know.
[307] I got some options.
[308] It's like a zombie party.
[309] On a Sunday?
[310] Yeah.
[311] Oh, man. Actually, maybe that's Saturday.
[312] Maybe all the parties are on Saturday.
[313] Nothing worse than being hungover on Monday morning.
[314] I don't know.
[315] It's worked out for me so far.
[316] I don't know what I'm going to do.
[317] We'll see.
[318] Halloween has passed me. I have enjoyed.
[319] I have done the, like, just stay home and watch horror movies and hand out candy thing.
[320] That's pretty good.
[321] Drink whiskey.
[322] That's not bad.
[323] Yeah, just hang out, drink some whiskey.
[324] Tipsily give children.
[325] Oh, what are you dressed as?
[326] Oh, that's adorable.
[327] You look like a little canoe.
[328] Here, have these Reese's cups.
[329] Here you go, brown banana.
[330] I've been eating these things all night.
[331] They're great.
[332] Take a shot.
[333] It's a little nippy out there.
[334] Is this your mom?
[335] You want a shot, too.
[336] Why don't you come in?
[337] Come on.
[338] You're a looker.
[339] Let him go.
[340] It's a safe neighborhood.
[341] It's a safe neighborhood.
[342] Just one kid, huh?
[343] That's all right.
[344] We can fix that.
[345] Just come on in.
[346] Where's Mr. Princess?
[347] Bradley.
[348] Oh, my God.
[349] Hello.
[350] Hi, how's it going?
[351] Hey.
[352] Tell me about your weekend.
[353] Played a lot of Fable.
[354] Oh.
[355] Three.
[356] Fable the third.
[357] I don't want to talk about that yet.
[358] I don't want to talk.
[359] You want to wait in this podcast?
[360] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[361] I almost said at all.
[362] Yeah, yeah.
[363] You want to talk about it, but it's...
[364] Too soon.
[365] Yeah.
[366] Fair enough.
[367] Anything non -game related going on?
[368] Pretty much all.
[369] I watched a bunch of BlizzCon.
[370] That's right, BlizzCon did happen this weekend.
[371] BlizzCon happened, and they sell online passes and also DirecTV passes to watch it on television.
[372] Isn't it like the DirecTV pass, you buy that and then you get a pet or something?
[373] Isn't there always some attached in -game WoW thing?
[374] Zombie Murloc, I think, was the pet this year.
[375] I bet that thing's already like $500 on eBay or something.
[376] I would think that people would understand that they only need to pay, was it like $50 for the pass?
[377] $40.
[378] $40.
[379] Yeah, I think they've been doing it for so long now that I have to imagine that most of the people that wanted one would have just gotten one for $40.
[380] But yeah, there'd be some people that like...
[381] I guess there'd be some people that forgot.
[382] There's always some sucker out there.
[383] Especially in a user base that big.
[384] Any highlights from the BlizzCon?
[385] I didn't watch any of the panels yet.
[386] Tried to circle back around and see some of those.
[387] I did watch a lot of StarCraft matches.
[388] Who won between Fruit Dealer and Boxer?
[389] I don't know, and I don't want to know because I haven't had a chance to watch it yet.
[390] What?
[391] But they were not part of the tournament.
[392] Right, yeah.
[393] It was just like an exhibition thing.
[394] Which was a good idea because, like, the way Bob characterized it to me, this is a good analogy, was it's kind of like Kobe playing Jordan.
[395] Yeah.
[396] You know?
[397] It's, like, the all -time great versus, like, the guy.
[398] The current hot guy.
[399] I guess, you know, Kobe's not exactly an up -and -comer, but he's, like.
[400] In Bob's mind, he still is.
[401] But, yeah, I mean, it's kind of like, yeah, the current, like, star versus sort of the, yeah.
[402] I saw they announced the, what was it, the Demon Hunter class?
[403] Yeah, it was the last Diablo III class.
[404] Which is, like.
[405] That sounds like the class you'd want to be when you're hunting a devil.
[406] Like a demon hunter.
[407] Oh, okay.
[408] I shouldn't be the witch doctor?
[409] No. How about the army guy?
[410] Are we going after witches?
[411] Nope.
[412] Do we need to heal witches?
[413] These witches are sick.
[414] Call the witch doctor.
[415] Hey, we're going after a giant devil.
[416] Who are you?
[417] I'm a demon hunter.
[418] Oh, perfect.
[419] Great.
[420] Great.
[421] Do you want to join our party?
[422] Dude, that works out.
[423] I'm kind of busy.
[424] I don't know if I want to join.
[425] I've got this one thing that kills demons.
[426] Great.
[427] You should come with us.
[428] Yeah.
[429] We were going this way.
[430] I was going to go pray, and my friend here is ready to heal any sick witches that we need along the way.
[431] That guy's just a barbarian that hits things.
[432] That guy just, yeah.
[433] He just screams a lot.
[434] He hangs out.
[435] He has night terrors, so try not to stay in his tent if you can help it.
[436] Yeah, so Demon Hunter, last of the classes, so now they're...
[437] They're done with those announcements.
[438] Come back in three years when the game comes out.
[439] I was going to say, so next year they can announce that's coming out in 2013, and then delay it in 2012.
[440] And then rework all the classes.
[441] Yep, and then Diablo III Part 1, 2015.
[442] Ooh.
[443] Oh, no. They did announce the PvP stuff.
[444] Yeah, I don't know.
[445] Is this stepping on the toes of news too much, or should we just talk about this now?
[446] No, he's talking about this now.
[447] Yeah, yeah.
[448] PvP arenas, which is kind of cool.
[449] So I guess there's no more consensual PvP in the game itself.
[450] Okay, you gotta go into arenas.
[451] I didn't play Diablo 2 online.
[452] I don't know about you guys.
[453] It's not bad.
[454] Apparently, yeah, the griefing was just about intolerable.
[455] You know, especially when there was a lot of hacking going on.
[456] You know, it was hard to...
[457] You had no chance.
[458] Yeah.
[459] Yeah, you'd just have guys walk up and it's like, oh, my ear is gone.
[460] So it's kind of...
[461] I guess it's cool that they're splitting that stuff out.
[462] Yeah.
[463] Like, if you want to play PvP, go into the arena.
[464] That's it.
[465] Also, I like that if you have a hardcore character and you go in the arena and you lose, the character's gone.
[466] Nice.
[467] Gone.
[468] Hardcore.
[469] One loss with a hardcore character in the arena and that character's done.
[470] Death is death, man. Don't call it hardcore unless you mean it.
[471] It sounds like they're going to do ladder -type stuff.
[472] There's going to be seasons, I think.
[473] It sounds like there will be ladder stuff, but there won't necessarily be the hardcore ranking stuff.
[474] It'll be more about...
[475] Like, kind of constant player progression.
[476] So you will fight, and even if you lose, you will progress somehow.
[477] I was going to say, like, doing seasons and stuff like that seems a little weird for a game like Diablo.
[478] Click, click, click, click, click, click.
[479] Wow.
[480] It's kind of StarCraft as well.
[481] Hey, watch it.
[482] But if you're in an arena, then it's like, click on that guy.
[483] Right.
[484] Here's this one -on -one fight.
[485] Click on a bunch of different things.
[486] Click on that guy and then push three and then click on it again.
[487] While that's cooling down, hit six and click on it.
[488] So yeah, I'm also curious to see how that stuff will work out, but they detailed that.
[489] Still no release date for Diablo 3.
[490] What else?
[491] They said that Cataclysm is going to be releasing day of digitally along with the regular retail edition.
[492] You can actually preload it.
[493] And you can preload it.
[494] Which is a first for them.
[495] Yeah, yeah.
[496] Which is great because they use that torrent.
[497] distribution method, which I'm sure is great for their bandwidth bill, but maybe not so much for day one adoptees, adopters.
[498] It's always a cool thing.
[499] Start preloading now.
[500] Is there a date on that?
[501] What is it, the 7th of December?
[502] It has a date.
[503] I believe it is out the same day as Tron.
[504] Who's going to play that?
[505] I'm thinking about turn it on my dude.
[506] Might have to play that.
[507] We should just make new characters.
[508] You've been turning on dudes for years.
[509] Big Russian dude.
[510] Yeah, come on.
[511] Just commit now, new character.
[512] Now I want to handle your back.
[513] Please, please do.
[514] No, fold me in half the other way.
[515] Is there new classes in Cataclysm?
[516] It's all...
[517] Isn't there like a worgen?
[518] Is there some kind of...
[519] There's goblins.
[520] There's new races.
[521] But there's new race class combinations.
[522] I think they've got all of them though, right?
[523] Yeah.
[524] I don't think there's anybody that anybody can't be.
[525] So the goblins and the worgens are the new races.
[526] And then they could be paladins or whatever else they want to do.
[527] I think so.
[528] Worgens don't have...
[529] Yeah, I'll start...
[530] Worgens don't have mounts!
[531] Yeah.
[532] I know that was a big uproar over that.
[533] What do they just get down on all things?
[534] They turn into...
[535] Yeah, they just go.
[536] They're just worgen.
[537] They just start running.
[538] That makes sense.
[539] Forget all that.
[540] Okay.
[541] Blizzard Dota.
[542] So, yeah, so they also said that they're going to do some, or that they have done some custom maps for StarCraft II.
[543] Yep.
[544] All kind of inspired by existing games.
[545] There's a...
[546] But the one that matters.
[547] A Left 4 Dead inspired one.
[548] Yeah.
[549] Which I guess is just sort of like the zombies come out at night level of...
[550] It's based on that mission, yeah.
[551] Of StarCraft II.
[552] And so, yeah, so one of them is StarCraft Dota.
[553] Yeah, they're just...
[554] Straight up make a Dota in the Starcraft 2 engine.
[555] I thought that happened like day one.
[556] Well, there was somebody made one in the beta and put it out, yeah.
[557] This is like the thing that...
[558] You'll just be able to get and play.
[559] What are the heroes?
[560] They're all actual Blizzard heroes.
[561] I think Illidan is in there.
[562] They're a cross -game heroes.
[563] They're making new content.
[564] Actual named Sylvanas from Warcraft and stuff.
[565] I think they're actually just pulling those models from the other games.
[566] I'm not mistaken.
[567] I don't know.
[568] I'm not sure what they're doing.
[569] I think they said some characters from Diablo would be appearing.
[570] Diablo.
[571] But using the Dota name, which...
[572] Valve has filed a trademark for.
[573] Yeah, I love it.
[574] I love that this is getting interesting.
[575] I love that they found a way to make this more confusing.
[576] Yeah, up until this past weekend, it was just a bunch of impotent rage.
[577] But now it's on.
[578] Can I make this even more interesting?
[579] Yeah.
[580] I have photographic proof of Gabe Newell at BlizzCon.
[581] playing that playing playing the starcraft dota so he is even like all right what the fuck are those guys doing and what does this mean to us hopefully everybody will be cool about it i think it's it's past it's past that point so yeah it's like they are on a collision course the only way for it to be cool is for one of them to say like all right you're right now somebody's got we're not gonna do it somebody has to blink right right yep you know maybe they work it out yeah i don't know Oh, the plot thickens.
[582] I want Valve and Blizzard to fight.
[583] That sounds awesome.
[584] That sounds ugly.
[585] Two of the last beloved PC developers.
[586] We don't have to worry about PC games after that.
[587] Those two clash.
[588] Whoever loses goes to consoles.
[589] Who's up for Stalker 3?
[590] Go play some more.
[591] That'd be a big bummer.
[592] Those guys need to worry about making games.
[593] It kind of doesn't matter what...
[594] either of those companies are doing in all this.
[595] Like, that's not really...
[596] Like, what does Bass Hunter think about all this?
[597] Like, that's what really...
[598] What pony does he back?
[599] Yeah.
[600] He's working on a new concept album, too.
[601] About Dota, too?
[602] To tell the story.
[603] But it is about Blizzard Dota?
[604] Yes, it's about Dota.
[605] It's about...
[606] Okay, so it tells the story of this saga.
[607] This epic clash of heroes.
[608] Okay.
[609] It's like 2112, man. It's just a concept album.
[610] Like, the wall.
[611] The whole thing.
[612] It's just saying that, like, guitar hero is actually going to be Dota 3.
[613] Oh, man. Yes, there will be a Dota mod for Guitar Hero.
[614] Great.
[615] Great.
[616] Dota everywhere.
[617] Yes.
[618] I thought the Bejeweled and the StarCraft mashup looked pretty interesting.
[619] I haven't seen any of the shot.
[620] I haven't seen the images, but the description sounds great.
[621] It's like you play bejeweled on half the screen.
[622] The other half is like tower defense or something.
[623] The thing that's awesome about it is that it's not tower defense versus AI.
[624] It's two versus two human players.
[625] Okay.
[626] And this is all free?
[627] It's all free.
[628] All coming out for all you need is StarCraft 2.
[629] But yeah, like you play the match three on one side to build up mana and then you cash the mana in to like send out specific units on the tower defense side against the other side.
[630] So it's like, man, it's crazy stuff.
[631] I think games are weird.
[632] And then there's another one based on Iron Chef.
[633] Called Iyer Chef.
[634] Yes.
[635] I don't even know how that works.
[636] Is that like some kind of cooking mama?
[637] No idea.
[638] No idea.
[639] Whatever.
[640] My eggs Benedict for Iyer.
[641] I don't know.
[642] Jimmy Randor could make a mean chili.
[643] I bet he could.
[644] I bet he could too.
[645] Vinny Caravella.
[646] Hey, man. How's your chili?
[647] It's pretty.
[648] It's all right.
[649] What do you use?
[650] What's your go -to?
[651] I go vegetarian chili.
[652] Yeah.
[653] I like it hot.
[654] Yeah.
[655] Spicy.
[656] Sort of beans.
[657] Mostly black beans.
[658] Put a little pinto in there, maybe.
[659] Kidney beans as well.
[660] They soften up nice.
[661] Not too many, though.
[662] But habaneros.
[663] That's the key.
[664] That's pretty hot.
[665] Also, these little...
[666] I don't know what they are.
[667] They're in all the Chinese supermarkets near me. These really shriveled up little peppers.
[668] Do you know what they are?
[669] Red?
[670] Like a dark red?
[671] Thai chili peppers?
[672] Oh, those things are the devil.
[673] Yeah.
[674] Put some of those in there.
[675] Anyway.
[676] Actually, I think those are seahorse penis.
[677] Is that what that is?
[678] Yeah.
[679] Because I feel really manly.
[680] No, they're invigorating for sure.
[681] You want to grind that up.
[682] Yeah, no. Sprinkle it on my hot dog before I eat them.
[683] What else is going on?
[684] Hey, I saw you playing a lot of Fallout New Vegas over the weekend.
[685] I did.
[686] I could see every once in a while the thing would pop up and say, I'm just playing Fallout New Vegas again.
[687] And I would look at it and go, of course he is.
[688] So I'm playing it on the PC.
[689] Uh -huh.
[690] That game was so much more fun on the PC because you reach like a lock pick, like a lock pick thing, like a check, and it's like, it's too hard for you.
[691] Then you open up the console and you say, no, no, it's not.
[692] We're good.
[693] It's like, you know, player dot, whatever it is, 700.
[694] Can you actually exceed?
[695] I don't know.
[696] I've actually been using the console.
[697] It's like one of those.
[698] I forget what my gateway console thing was, but there was something where I got screwed.
[699] I got caught in a mountain or something.
[700] My character was stuck, and I was like, all right, you need to warp him out of here.
[701] This is the one that's going to break it.
[702] And I opened it up.
[703] You broke the seal using the console.
[704] And I turned clipping off for a second.
[705] Now you turn it back on.
[706] Now you're just like clipping through every wall.
[707] Yeah, so now it's like every time I hit a mountain and it's like, fuck, it's going to take me 20 minutes to walk around here to get the clip right through.
[708] Might as well just bind it to a key.
[709] There were definitely parts of that game where I spent like an hour trying to get up to the top of a mountain.
[710] I just fly.
[711] Because there were...
[712] lake lurks or you know some monsters or even just geometry up there or something yeah i was like there's only one way up and it was just well guarded and i'm like dude there's no way i can make it up and i wish that i eventually ended up using a south boy but i wish i could have just like yeah the top of that i've done i think i think i might actually get the pc version and just play through it again it's fun like that like i'm trying to not do too much because you know a lot of that game a lot of the fun in that game is also kind of leveling leveling up and the challenge up and stuff like that but like lock picking stuff Yeah.
[713] I don't find – For me, it's like they're sectioning you off from parts of the game.
[714] That I would never see.
[715] And speech paths and stuff like that.
[716] It's why I ended up maxing out speech by the end of the game because I wanted to make sure to see as many different things as I could.
[717] But there are definitely things that came up where it was like, oh, you don't have the luck rating to pursue this speech path or you can't hack this computer.
[718] I was like, man, I really want to like – Like for the fiction's sake, I'd really like to hack this computer and see what the messages say.
[719] Well, it's because I don't think I'm going to go through it again.
[720] So the way I play those games, and it's kind of the way I play a lot of RPGs, I'll put all my points into the speech or whatever charisma.
[721] Because a lot of those games, it's not just Fallout.
[722] A lot of the joy comes from the funny dialogue or what you can do to guys and get the speech out.
[723] What the reactions are.
[724] Yeah, and it's almost like you want to get those perks too.
[725] Yeah, you want to see the perks.
[726] All that stuff.
[727] I always max out, especially for Fallout in particular, it's maxing out speech, science, and repair because those are the things that I want to see all the weird options I can get.
[728] Fallout New Vegas seems like they do this more than Fallout 3 did.
[729] They set up everything really cut and dry of like you can do this if you have a high enough speech.
[730] You can do this if you have a high enough science.
[731] Right.
[732] Or you can do this if you have a high enough repair.
[733] Yeah.
[734] Like most quests almost have like one of each.
[735] Yeah.
[736] Okay.
[737] Well, I have to go this path because that's how I'm spec.
[738] Yeah.
[739] So like I don't remember that being such a thing in Fallout 3 where it's so obvious being like literally just on the menu.
[740] It's like do you want to repair it?
[741] Do you want to do the science option?
[742] Or do you want to talk to a dude and fix it?
[743] So I kind of feel a little cheated putting money into – or putting points into science and repair because I feel like they're always giving me the option to do either.
[744] I haven't hit something yet where it's like you can only repair this.
[745] There's definitely some where it's one or the other.
[746] There's definitely some medicine checks also.
[747] So the medicine – I hit a medicine one where I was talking to a doctor and he was like, well, you don't have a high enough medicine thing.
[748] Hold on.
[749] I'll talk to you in a second.
[750] It's like 80.
[751] I can't play it that way.
[752] I'd be so afraid.
[753] Of messing it up?
[754] No, because I would just not.
[755] I would not have any sort of a game experience.
[756] Then it would just be like warp to end.
[757] Yeah.
[758] Well, that's the thing.
[759] So like I've been trying – I actually put the medicine back down after I did that thing because I was like – I still feel a little bad doing it.
[760] So I was like, ah.
[761] I'll just leave this here.
[762] So the big things that I changed were – I kind of feel like I'm tailoring to how I play games.
[763] I changed to carry weight right away, like the encumbrance.
[764] Oh, God, that would be so tempting.
[765] So it's like now it's up to like 450, and I maxed that out already.
[766] It was like I'll just take everything.
[767] Take all.
[768] Take all.
[769] My lock pick I put up to like 75 right away.
[770] And there was one other mission where it was kind of, I don't know how far I am, but it seemed kind of early on where they wanted me to, I had to check like five radio stations for the military.
[771] And they were like scattered out throughout the wasteland, like real far.
[772] And a lot of areas that I hadn't visited yet.
[773] And I was like, oh, I don't want to move on until I hit this area.
[774] It was like, check out what's going on.
[775] We're getting kind of weird reports from these five stations or whatever.
[776] Uh, so one of the commands in the console is like warped.
[777] Yeah.
[778] Okay.
[779] Okay.
[780] And then it felt real bad.
[781] So I walked it back.
[782] Uh, cause I was like, man, I probably missed a bunch of stuff on the way there, but yeah, so that's.
[783] So clipping or kind of like movement stuff, because movement is super slow in that game, especially if you're wearing heavy armor.
[784] Does agility make you go faster?
[785] Yeah, I think so.
[786] Okay, so I might max that out.
[787] So I'm just trying to make it more enjoyable.
[788] Yes, I'm cheating, but I don't know.
[789] I feel like I'm cheating to make the game more fun for me. Yeah, as long as you're seeing the fiction, you're still getting the best parts of...
[790] that experience like that's that's really yeah and like gameplay is is everything you know it to be already basically and as much as you know it's tempting to put my gun skill all the way up like i'm still leveling that up I haven't pushed up my levels at all.
[791] I did once, but then I kind of put it back down.
[792] I just wanted to see if I could.
[793] Have you found the shooting, like the Ironside stuff, to be better on the PC since you've got mouse control?
[794] But it's all dice rolls anyway.
[795] Like you just aim at dude heads.
[796] To me, it's like that stuff just kind of got in the way.
[797] Yeah.
[798] I don't use VATS as much, I think, as I did in an early game now.
[799] Yeah, that's what I was wondering about.
[800] But it's mostly because I feel the companions are actually really good.
[801] I have Boone with me, and I have a robot with me as well.
[802] Really?
[803] Yeah.
[804] So I just walk around, and it'll go into the kill cam before I even see dudes.
[805] Boone's like sniping dudes that I never see.
[806] I find that to be kind of frustrating at some points, because whenever it happens, it turns you to face Boone.
[807] Yeah.
[808] So you'll be running away, and all of a sudden, they'll go, and then you'll be running the wrong way.
[809] Oh, wait, wait, wait.
[810] I got to turn back around again.
[811] Yeah, it's kind of weird.
[812] And I never even saw the dude.
[813] So it's just like.
[814] slow motion monsters head coming off i had a dog i had a dog for a good long time that would just run off and kill guys i was like whoa whoa whoa whoa like what's it's kind of weird but they're boon's pretty strong so uh dudes will kind of run up and i'll have my shotgun or something get ready to kill him and he can pick off like three dudes before i can take out one so i'm still waiting for my copy to show up But you saying, yeah, I'm hanging out with this guy named Boone and a robot.
[815] I'm like, oh, God, I want to play that so bad.
[816] It's this weird robot who's like one of those little floaty ones that the Enclave used to have.
[817] Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[818] And he plays like this little cell phone jingle that for some reason in the mix of the game just stands out so much.
[819] It sounds like the cell phone is going off.
[820] Yeah, yeah.
[821] I still haven't gotten used to it.
[822] Every time a bad guy appears, he plays this little jingle that sounds like it's coming from another room in my apartment.
[823] And you're like, oh.
[824] Yeah, no, he's in the game.
[825] Yeah, so I don't know.
[826] I'm using the console, I feel like, to tailor the game to make it more fun for me and also get me out of spots where I feel like it's broken, like when I get stuck in a mountain.
[827] I'm like, okay, well, no clip and walk on.
[828] Or like, I don't think this guy is supposed to be here, so I'm going to move him over here.
[829] Like that kind of stuff.
[830] I would have done that for the end of the game when I played it through it on 360 had I been given the option because I had a companion break on me and basically was put into the end game, which was a lot of combat, which I was not necessarily spec'd for with no help.
[831] So it was pretty messed up.
[832] So it's cool to kind of have the console, like seriously, like for that stuff.
[833] There's also weird things in that game about the faction stuff.
[834] That's probably the biggest bummer in that game.
[835] I don't enjoy the faction or the...
[836] quote unquote, disguising yourself with other armor.
[837] I feel like I've had armor on because it's the best armor I had and then walked up on a dude who's like, hey, just start shooting me. And I'm like, ah, Christ, it's because I have that stupid armor on.
[838] I need to back up, reload a save, take that armor off and go talk to the guy.
[839] I realize I'm going to fight him anyway.
[840] There's no other option.
[841] It tells you once in a while, it's like, hey, you're still wearing NTR armor.
[842] Okay, great.
[843] But I don't know.
[844] There's never been a...
[845] I have not found a point yet where I need to disguise myself.
[846] Right.
[847] I played through the whole game and never found one spot where that actually benefited me at all.
[848] So that part's kind of a bummer.
[849] And I think we mentioned this on last week, so I don't want to go too far into it.
[850] The stealing stuff from dudes you're enemies with, giving you bad karma.
[851] Yep.
[852] So stupid.
[853] Yep.
[854] Like, I just killed everyone in this house.
[855] Everybody loves me for killing them.
[856] Now you're going to dock me for stealing this fucking iguana steak off the...
[857] That's bad form, man. Stealing from the dead is bad no matter who it is.
[858] It really seems like they should have just dispensed with the whole karma system.
[859] I never saw one point in the game where karma made a difference, so it was kind of a weird thing.
[860] Oh, well, in that sense, it kind of doesn't matter, though.
[861] I guess, but I don't know.
[862] I only had, like, one positive karma moment in the entire game and, like, 10 or 12 negative ones, but it never said, like, you're a scoundrel.
[863] No, yeah, I just got bad karma.
[864] I just gave up on it now.
[865] Just steal stuff when...
[866] I wonder if that pipe even goes into anything or if it's just like...
[867] Just text on the screen.
[868] Yeah, just like, oh, we left it in, but it doesn't hook into anything in the engine.
[869] It's just pouring karma out.
[870] It seems like they did kind of say pretty explicitly, like, the rep system is what actually matters.
[871] Like, yeah, karma's in there, but rep is what really matters.
[872] It's almost like it's just there as a legacy feature for people who expect it.
[873] I guess.
[874] And want to keep track of that stuff.
[875] Is there any way to bring up the character wheel without talking to a guy?
[876] No, I don't think so.
[877] Okay.
[878] Anyway, it's very much the Fallout experience.
[879] It is.
[880] You're walking through the wasteland.
[881] You're just making it the Fallout you want.
[882] Yeah.
[883] So having played Fallout 3 on the console and now playing Fallout 3 New Vegas on the PC, the PC for me, I don't know.
[884] I'm enjoying it.
[885] Is that the way to go?
[886] For me. Sure as hell looks better.
[887] It looks great.
[888] I fired it up for like 30 minutes on the PC.
[889] Man. I found lockpicking to be easier on a gamepad.
[890] Yeah, using a mouse is a little weird.
[891] The vibration and stuff seems to...
[892] Does it have...
[893] Does it have gamepad support if you mess with that at all?
[894] I haven't plugged one in.
[895] I mean, Fallout 3 did.
[896] But this one isn't games from Windows, so I assume it probably does.
[897] There is, I think, a console command to just unlock whatever you're selected on.
[898] I haven't tried that one yet.
[899] I am afraid I'm going to break the damn game.
[900] Like I'm afraid eventually you get in there and mess around with the insides too much and the whole thing just explodes.
[901] Or like I'm going to I'm going to do no clipping, get to the top of a hill and have broken it because you were supposed to walk by this guard, you know, in the front of here.
[902] And he will never trigger.
[903] But then you already have a save going.
[904] Yeah.
[905] And like I walked in this house and like I mean, it was like when you were clipping through a lot of walls in Fallout three and stuff, you were getting to places you weren't supposed to be or couldn't have gotten.
[906] And like it stops streaming in the world properly.
[907] Oh, OK, sure.
[908] Just like, okay, what's happened here?
[909] And also, when I played the game, it looked like somebody had already hacked the damn thing already.
[910] The first character I walked up to was the woman with the dog, Sadie or Sally or whatever.
[911] Sonny.
[912] Sonny, and the damn dog's eyeballs were on the side of its head, like outside of its sockets.
[913] And I was like, well, let's go.
[914] Welcome to Fallout.
[915] 500 feet tall.
[916] Great.
[917] So I want to know if you guys took the Wild Wasteland perk.
[918] I did.
[919] Trait, not perk.
[920] It was a trait.
[921] Yeah, I did as well.
[922] I didn't realize the difference either until they never showed up again, the traits and the perks.
[923] I was like, oh, these perks are all weird.
[924] So the starting ones are traits and everything else is a perk?
[925] Yeah.
[926] So those never get reproduced then.
[927] Right.
[928] The traits have negative effects as well as positive ones.
[929] So they're all like, you know, if you want to kind of customize your character in a specific direction, you can.
[930] I ended up looking at those and realized that the negatives were too bad to want to mess with, so I just took Wild Wasteland.
[931] Oh, and nothing else.
[932] You don't have to take any if you don't want to.
[933] And just went in with that.
[934] And there were a couple times they denote when those moments happen, like a little guy will appear in the corner of the screen.
[935] Dot, dot, dot or something.
[936] Most of the times that happened, there was no corresponding thing.
[937] I was like, okay.
[938] What am I supposed to be weirded out?
[939] The only time that anything happened that I was like, oh, okay, was when three housewives with rolling pins attacked me after coming out of a building.
[940] Pretty wild.
[941] Yeah.
[942] So I could have been running around with a rolling pin and beating people with that.
[943] But I was like, at that point, I was encumbered enough already without carrying around dumb, goofy weapons.
[944] Yeah, I haven't seen too much of that either.
[945] I saw one.
[946] chair somewhere and it did the sound it was like a lookout point or something like that with balloons I don't know I don't know I'm enjoying it a lot playing a bunch of it but hell of busted no I wouldn't say I wouldn't say supremely busted it's fucking fallout it's weird you know there's just like dog's eyeballs on the side of his face like what are you going to do people doing their weird walk in their house when they're going to sleep and walk up to them and trigger their get -out -of -bed animation to come talk to me. Like, hi, just wanted to buy something.
[947] Great.
[948] And I'll just do your animation and go back to bed.
[949] Stuff like that.
[950] That general kind of...
[951] Goofiness.
[952] The engine is running kind of thing.
[953] I can see why they went Steamworks.
[954] They had a patch out for the PC version in like 24 hours.
[955] Yeah.
[956] After launch.
[957] I have not seen any eyeballs.
[958] I want to say they patched 360 at some point too.
[959] Sure.
[960] As of this morning, I hadn't.
[961] Oh, you hadn't taken anything?
[962] Well, I don't have the game on 360, but I saw people asking or saying there's still no patch on Xbox as of today.
[963] All right, then.
[964] I did not have that save problem, which I was glad about.
[965] I know a lot of people had lost.
[966] Oh, like Steam Cloud.
[967] Yeah.
[968] Yeah, they did fix that.
[969] That was part of that.
[970] I don't know.
[971] I'm having a good time.
[972] It seems like an urgent thing to face.
[973] Absolutely.
[974] I feel like Fallout's a great game to be able to customize your experience with the console.
[975] In a sense, I don't feel like the game is fully out yet on the PC.
[976] Seriously, there's so many experience -enhancing mods on the way.
[977] Some of the crazy UI enhancements and that mod with 100 extra country western songs is coming and stuff like that.
[978] It is totally a game that I feel like lends itself to being...
[979] beaten to shit like the engine just wants to be broken like you want gun skills that are way beyond whatever the game was supposed to do so you're killing dudes with a bb in one hit or yeah like it just asked for it like they're they give you know they give you the bloody mess perk right there it's like now blow just blow this guy up just you know they give you the tool set yeah make their broken game kind of fun and broken yeah frustrating and broken Again, I played through the other one on the console, and I had a really good time doing it, but this is a dirty kind of play.
[980] Seems appropriate.
[981] Seems appropriate for a game with an amber UI.
[982] And I'm enjoying it a lot more in my play style, too.
[983] Because I don't feel like I'm going to miss anything.
[984] Like if I miss anything, I can spawn it in front of me. Like, oh, man, I totally missed that whole quest with that gun.
[985] I can't go back to that place where that snow globe is.
[986] I'll just add it to my thing right now.
[987] Here it is right now, the snow globe in front of me. Or here's this minigun right now.
[988] So that's fun.
[989] And all the perks, just give them to yourself if you miss them.
[990] Does any of it disable Steam achievements if you start using those commands?
[991] I don't think so.
[992] It didn't warn me at all, and I did get another Steam achievement after I had done my lockpicking.
[993] It would only be fair.
[994] From the other one?
[995] Well, yeah, if you're going to have it in Fallout 3.
[996] I think Bethesda has proven that they don't give a fuck about achievements.
[997] It's funny.
[998] It's just something you don't see anymore.
[999] As Valve.
[1000] So they also played Costume Quest.
[1001] Let's talk about how far are you in Costume Quest.
[1002] Oh, wow, okay.
[1003] I only played a little bit of it.
[1004] A fun game as well.
[1005] Yeah, pretty simple.
[1006] Yeah, not a lot going on in terms of gameplay, but fun.
[1007] Good art direction, funny dialogue.
[1008] Yeah, the costumes are funny.
[1009] It's weird.
[1010] They backload the game with like five costumes right away.
[1011] So at the end of the game, I was just wearing them to see them.
[1012] Like, I wasn't...
[1013] Oh, you were seeing costumes for the first time near the end?
[1014] And it's like you get them for, like, one battle, and it's, like, moving on to, like, next costume already, so...
[1015] Yeah, that part was kind of weird, but, I don't know, it was fun.
[1016] It's goofy watching the costumes.
[1017] The battles can get a little...
[1018] That was my only fear in that style of RPG, if the battles are not fun.
[1019] But you're getting the battle patches, and those are changing up the battle a little bit.
[1020] Yeah, but I don't know.
[1021] Maybe I didn't get too deep into it, but I used the ones that I thought, like, increase your damage.
[1022] Like, yeah, I'll use that one over a kind of a poison this guy.
[1023] Like, nah, don't do my damage.
[1024] Yeah, I've got the, like, basically the parry.
[1025] The counterattack.
[1026] That's the best one.
[1027] I've got the counterattack and I've got the eggs.
[1028] You've got a free hit.
[1029] And I've got the eggs.
[1030] I put the eggs on somebody for a bit.
[1031] You can egg someone to stun them.
[1032] Also do a little bit of damage.
[1033] I mean, it's pretty simple as an RPG.
[1034] It's cute.
[1035] It's not mind -blowing.
[1036] The story's kind of funny.
[1037] It's got good personality, yeah.
[1038] And 200 points if you're interested in that kind of thing.
[1039] Easy S -Rank?
[1040] Yeah.
[1041] Really?
[1042] First playthrough.
[1043] Even like the find every costume and all that stuff?
[1044] You pretty much find every costume.
[1045] Oh, wow.
[1046] Just by playing it.
[1047] Man, we get achievements back up and running.
[1048] That'll be great.
[1049] Yeah.
[1050] Yeah.
[1051] But even without the achievements, the game is cute.
[1052] It's hard to not get all the achievements.
[1053] You kind of have to try.
[1054] There's only one where you have to jump over.
[1055] The robot has his Heelys, and you have to jump over all the ramps.
[1056] It was the only one I was missing towards the end.
[1057] But you can go back for all that stuff?
[1058] Okay, great.
[1059] I wasn't sure.
[1060] I was starting to sweat like, do I need to go and find all of the ramps right now?
[1061] They open up portals to three worlds and kind of just warp between them.
[1062] Feel some urgency to play that game before Halloween.
[1063] After that, it won't matter.
[1064] Definitely, I felt like I was kind of bummed I wasn't on the East Coast because it's all fall and kind of like leaves on the ground.
[1065] Lots of red, yellow, orange.
[1066] Kind of bummer.
[1067] But seasonal games.
[1068] I like it.
[1069] Here's a game that is appropriate for this time of year specifically.
[1070] I have a strong feeling they could really nail a Christmas game if they wanted to.
[1071] Just pop out a really good somewhat dark Santa Claus game.
[1072] They could do the next April.
[1073] Get your double fine resurrection.
[1074] No, I'll just do it in December, my downloadable Christmas game.
[1075] I feel like Double Fine could totally hit that.
[1076] You got to save that for the Easter game.
[1077] Just do all the major games.
[1078] That's what I'm talking about.
[1079] That's what I'm talking about.
[1080] Arbor Day.
[1081] All Saints.
[1082] Yeah.
[1083] Did you just make those part of the Costume Quest series?
[1084] Costume Quest.
[1085] That's right.
[1086] All Saints Costume Quest.
[1087] Costume Quest.
[1088] I'm wearing my All Saints Day costume.
[1089] What's that look like?
[1090] My clothes.
[1091] I'm Matthew.
[1092] Let me. Check me out.
[1093] What about Costume Quest Christmas sweaters?
[1094] Yep.
[1095] Or it's just that you have to wear different types of Christmas sweaters and they imbue different amazing powers to allow you to survive.
[1096] The great thing about costume quests is how psyched the kids are about Halloween.
[1097] Oh, yeah.
[1098] And their costumes.
[1099] Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1100] They believe in it fully.
[1101] Yeah, and fighting monsters and all the other crazy business that's going on in the story.
[1102] And you do run up against adults who are like, oh, that's adorable.
[1103] No, there are monsters.
[1104] That's adorable.
[1105] Maybe they franchise this whole quest thing.
[1106] Maybe.
[1107] I don't know.
[1108] They can make some kind of puzzle game.
[1109] Get your Yuletide quest.
[1110] True.
[1111] You had me at quests.
[1112] So, yeah, I think that's about it.
[1113] Maybe a little Borderlands.
[1114] It's still poking, peeking, peeking on the Borderlands.
[1115] That's cool.
[1116] That's cool, man. Jeff, you played some DJ Hero 2, right?
[1117] I did.
[1118] Yeah, I played all of it.
[1119] I want to play that game.
[1120] Playing a little bit last week and then watching you play some, hearing you play some.
[1121] It's good.
[1122] It seems good.
[1123] Yeah.
[1124] That game I watch, like a watch you play, and I'm like, fuck, this is the greatest game ever made.
[1125] Looks cool as shit.
[1126] All the sounds that are coming out are awesome.
[1127] What you're doing to make those sounds come out look awesome.
[1128] Even just the way that you smack around the controller, it can be a lot of fun.
[1129] Oh, listen, that's great.
[1130] You don't want anything to do with actually playing it?
[1131] I don't know.
[1132] I think I do.
[1133] I didn't really get into DJ Hero 1, and it seems kind of similar.
[1134] It's very similar, yeah.
[1135] I don't know why.
[1136] They've kind of tricked out the gameplay a little bit by adding some additional things for you to do.
[1137] It's the same controller, but it's like hold down the button now instead of just tap it.
[1138] It's a revolution.
[1139] It blows your mind the first time you see it.
[1140] Totally.
[1141] You're like, oh my god, this changes everything.
[1142] There's all the freestyle sections and stuff.
[1143] The freestyle crossfade sections I think are awesome because it does what a crossfader does.
[1144] The freestyle scratch sections are less awesome.
[1145] It's not really one -to -one.
[1146] Oh, like rewinding and kind of moving?
[1147] Yeah, you're not really...
[1148] It's not what it would sound like if you're really scratching a record.
[1149] It almost seems like they have a sample in mind for how the record should be cut, and you're just kind of moving that back and forth.
[1150] Yeah, because if it was actually yours, it would sound really bad.
[1151] Yeah, exactly.
[1152] It'd be really bad.
[1153] There's some basic stuff, like if you go backwards with it, it has a rewinding kind of sound.
[1154] There's some basic stuff they get right, but it's not like one -to -one control over one of the tracks.
[1155] Maybe for the pro turntable.
[1156] Yeah, exactly.
[1157] It's just achieved by taking a turntable from the other one and plugging it into the crossfader.
[1158] That's true.
[1159] I thought that was a thing.
[1160] I was really surprised when it wasn't.
[1161] Like, wait, you can't use two?
[1162] No. No, you totally can't.
[1163] I did like the samples that you can trigger during the song or samples from the song.
[1164] They are, yeah.
[1165] That's cool.
[1166] They're appropriate and specific to every mix.
[1167] And sure enough, the Diplo set is where the air horns are.
[1168] Yes, very good.
[1169] So you can't always have that if you want?
[1170] No, no, it's just for those songs.
[1171] Well, you've got to save something for DLC, man. Such a design gaffe.
[1172] To not just have all air horn all the time.
[1173] I want the button because whenever you get to that section, all you do is just hammer the button as fast as you can.
[1174] Well, see, you don't do that anymore because they're actually grading you on how well you do on all those freestyle sections.
[1175] I have news for them.
[1176] I am still going to do that.
[1177] Whatever, I'll just make that noise myself during those sections.
[1178] Yeah.
[1179] I'll just go...
[1180] I'd say just don't wait for those sections.
[1181] Just make that noise at any time you feel it's appropriate.
[1182] You just want another button on the turntable that just does that.
[1183] I think you should just get a dub box set up.
[1184] Get a dub siren going and then you'll just have it at all times.
[1185] Duct tape it to my DJ Hero controllers.
[1186] Yeah, exactly.
[1187] Whenever I need to, just...
[1188] Hit the big red button.
[1189] I feel like, you know, it's cool what they're doing.
[1190] And I actually really do like the music in this game.
[1191] Yeah.
[1192] But as time goes on, we as a society get further and further away from turntables or from scratching specifically.
[1193] Like, there's just not a lot of cutting and crossfading.
[1194] in today's dance music so it's a little weird for like here's tiesto and here's it's like no that's not that's not how it works if i mean if you actually sit and start thinking about the role of the turntable and vinyl and and all that stuff well you know vinyl styles this place i mean people are using it to you know with in conjunction with laptops and they're specially coated vinyls and they're seratos and all and and you know cd dj turntables and all that crazy shit but it's just like it's like in in 20 years time yeah like the fact that you know Making this weird noise on a record was the basis for an entire genre of music will seem fucking insane.
[1195] Yeah, and now that genre of music has moved beyond that largely.
[1196] So it's like there's less hip -hop, I think, in this game.
[1197] It definitely feels like there's less.
[1198] There's still a good amount.
[1199] Grandpa's music was so weird.
[1200] Now it's a lot more...
[1201] It's a lot dancier.
[1202] It's a lot more electronic stuff, it seems like.
[1203] So it's...
[1204] It's good, though.
[1205] What are you talking about?
[1206] It has Snow's Informer in it.
[1207] It doesn't get much more hip -hop than that, Jeff.
[1208] That is a dance, smash, dance, dance hall.
[1209] Dance hall, hip -hop, hip -hop dance hall.
[1210] Smash up.
[1211] And also that track does not have the MC Shan part on it, so it is not hip -hop.
[1212] You get to sing it?
[1213] Too bad.
[1214] Yeah, they've got a vocal.
[1215] section in the game.
[1216] You can pick up a mic and actually it'll tell you to sing songs and Brad did it.
[1217] Brad did it.
[1218] That doesn't mean you should.
[1219] It sucks.
[1220] Yeah, it's straight up.
[1221] That stuff is bad.
[1222] It was something you'd say even before I came out like, this doesn't seem like maybe the best idea.
[1223] Because I'm repeating, you know, because like the samples, the vocal samples are being cut up as part of the mix.
[1224] It's not like karaoke where it's like, you know how the song goes, and so I am ready to sing this song.
[1225] It's like, okay, are you ready to sing?
[1226] But even if you go and memorize the mixes and get comfortable with the way that the vocals are being cut back and forth and the way the lines are being chopped up, even if you're doing it perfectly, it still sounds like...
[1227] garbage.
[1228] You are not adding to the experience.
[1229] You are subtracting from the quality of the music you are hearing, even if you are getting 100 % vocals.
[1230] And you're actually being graded on this, not like in the first one where you're just like, yell into a microphone if you want to.
[1231] Whatever.
[1232] You are being graded.
[1233] I feel like the better thing is they should have had the microphone just for a hype man. That's what the first game was.
[1234] It was in there and you could just hook it up and just go into the microphone if you wanted to.
[1235] To grade you on that.
[1236] How well can you say, boom, adult skate nights.
[1237] That's right, like that kind of stuff.
[1238] They should have freestyle breaks for that stuff.
[1239] Billy, your party room is ready.
[1240] Three, two, one, party announcement.
[1241] And they have mega mixes in there.
[1242] So most of the songs are just like one -off mixes, like one song mashed with another song.
[1243] But they also have just sets of songs that are all worked together.
[1244] So you'll go through like five mixes, but it blends them all together in a really smooth way.
[1245] There's like six or seven of these in the whole game.
[1246] And that's all well done and stuff.
[1247] You're like, oh, wow.
[1248] It's actually like this is how a DJ would actually do a thing at a club.
[1249] Sure.
[1250] You know, just constant music for.
[1251] And those are preset.
[1252] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1253] You can't just put those together on the fly.
[1254] I think it's like, I want to say it's like four songs, five songs.
[1255] Okay, that's not bad.
[1256] That's pretty lengthy.
[1257] Three to five, something like that.
[1258] You're playing for a while.
[1259] Sure.
[1260] It's probably more like three.
[1261] Most of them are three, but some are four.
[1262] But you're still going for a little bit, and it's cool.
[1263] Ten minutes.
[1264] Yeah.
[1265] Maybe a little longer.
[1266] I would have liked to have seen more of that stuff, or even some way, and this is probably asking a lot, but if they could have found a way to make every mix in the song blend into every other mix, so if you create any playlist, it'll all work together as one long thing, that'd be great.
[1267] That'd be crazy.
[1268] It's ridiculous.
[1269] Yeah.
[1270] Even asking that is fucking stupid.
[1271] Every song at the same BPM, right?
[1272] I understand why that would not be feasible, but man, that'd be cool.
[1273] The lack of dub horns.
[1274] and the lack of Daft Punk.
[1275] There's Daft Punk.
[1276] Not as characters, but there's a little bit of Daft Punk in there.
[1277] As the characters.
[1278] At the very, very end.
[1279] Loved that in the first game.
[1280] Unlock Daft Punk.
[1281] I don't have to worry about any of these other characters.
[1282] Well, when you're playing through the single player mode, you can't even play as any of the licensed DJs.
[1283] When you're playing through Empire mode, you have to pick one of the employee DJs.
[1284] So you can't play as the RZA, which, that's no good.
[1285] So do you think this series has legs?
[1286] Or is it going to keep going?
[1287] I think so.
[1288] Annually?
[1289] I think they'll at least have one more of these where it'll be on the rise.
[1290] And I feel like if they do a DJ Hero 3 and have another year to really think about where they want it to go and remove all the vocal crap and figure out some kind of pro mode equivalent with a second turntable or some kind of other gameplay thing, that'll kind of be the pinnacle.
[1291] This series feels like it's on the rise, whereas most others feel like they're done.
[1292] Sure.
[1293] There's some innovation still to be done here.
[1294] Did they dump the guitar stuff?
[1295] Yeah.
[1296] Axed?
[1297] Yeah.
[1298] Axed.
[1299] Nice one.
[1300] My fear would be Activision freaking out.
[1301] sacrificing DJ Hero somehow for the sake of Guitar Hero.
[1302] Like, it's all one game now.
[1303] Guitar Hero versus DJ Hero Go.
[1304] Yeah, something like that.
[1305] That'd be stupid.
[1306] We just made it one game.
[1307] It's just Hero Box.
[1308] Hero Hero.
[1309] Hero Hero.
[1310] You play all the games all at once.
[1311] There's no more DJ Hero anymore, and Neversoft is making this, and they didn't do a very good job.
[1312] If you don't have the controller, you just use the skateboard.
[1313] Oh.
[1314] Yeah.
[1315] Yeah, so I played a bunch of that.
[1316] Word.
[1317] What else?
[1318] I saw you saying something about polynomial in 3D.
[1319] Yeah, it's got 3D support in it.
[1320] Yeah, we saw that during the quick look.
[1321] Did you actually...
[1322] No, I have red blue glasses that I got with a skateboarding magazine.
[1323] And they work?
[1324] Yeah.
[1325] I was playing that in 3D a little bit over the weekend.
[1326] State of the art. It's pretty awesome.
[1327] It lost like five hours, just can't remember.
[1328] It was like 15 minutes, but yeah.
[1329] It was like splitting headache afterwards.
[1330] Yeah, like all those particles and all that, when they're going crazy and kind of coming right at you and all that stuff, it looked pretty good there for a little bit.
[1331] It was neat.
[1332] Cool.
[1333] And I played a bunch of Rock Band 3.
[1334] Yeah?
[1335] Yeah.
[1336] How's that going for you?
[1337] That game's fucking great.
[1338] You think so?
[1339] I do.
[1340] I like it.
[1341] I like it a lot.
[1342] I think it's pretty much the stopping point.
[1343] You know, this is it.
[1344] Civilization.
[1345] They've done it.
[1346] Like that's, yeah, the pro guitar stuff I think is really awesome.
[1347] Keys is a lot of fun.
[1348] I guess I was a little, yeah, I think the pro stuff answers the fucking question for everyone who's like, why don't you just play a real instrument?
[1349] And it creates a meaningful way for you to kind of start down that path.
[1350] The platform is done.
[1351] Playing the keyboard is awesome.
[1352] And being able to play bass guitar parts with the keyboard controller is also awesome.
[1353] I was surprised at how quickly I chewed through basically like what they present as the career stuff.
[1354] Because it's not – there is a progression to it.
[1355] Right.
[1356] But I feel like over a weekend – But just like kind of everything you're doing feeds into that progression.
[1357] So, yeah, if you dedicate yourself to playing a bunch of it, you get through it.
[1358] But it was like a weekend, and I was like – it was a hard – it was a hardcore weekend for sure.
[1359] Yeah, yeah.
[1360] But – It's an experience I've never had with any other Rock Band game because the Rock Band games always at some point just straight up require you to get a bunch of dudes together.
[1361] Right.
[1362] So it's like I can do a certain amount on my own just as a single player.
[1363] Now I need like a billion stars.
[1364] Eventually I'm going to need to get more dudes together to keep this going.
[1365] Yeah, the way that they structure Rock Band 3, it's like it all just flows.
[1366] So if I'm doing...
[1367] challenge stuff, if I'm doing gigs like the road show stuff, whatever it is I'm doing, it's all feeding towards that.
[1368] Do they not unlock everything from the start or do you have to unlock songs?
[1369] You unlock clothes and stuff as you complete some of the challenges.
[1370] So they'll be like, you know, you got 90 % medium guitar achievement.
[1371] Obviously they have achievements, but there's an in -game goal system that might as well be achievements.
[1372] Some of them do actually map.
[1373] And they have a lot of those.
[1374] And each one of those, you'll get fans for completing them.
[1375] And some of them come with clothing as well.
[1376] I would just like to let people know there's an achievement in that game for playing a certain number of songs featuring bands with Dave Grohl in them.
[1377] They have to be downloaded songs.
[1378] Yeah.
[1379] The description does not state that.
[1380] In the retail game.
[1381] In the retail game.
[1382] Yeah, so what they did is the game has 1 ,250 possible achievement points.
[1383] So it's like they kind of just rolled out their DLC add -on stuff right out of the gate and applied it all to these downloadable songs.
[1384] So it's like there's 1 ,000 points for just getting the game.
[1385] But then they have these other achievements in there.
[1386] It's like for queen songs, for playing 20 downloaded songs, and stuff like that.
[1387] Getting a streak in this one nine's nail song.
[1388] uh i know we talked about this last time but that series really needs a subscription service at this point like some kind of just like cool take take my 10 bucks for the month i'm gonna have a parties and we just want to play all these songs but i want to keep it so yeah but i i feel like they've mastered it i feel like they've they've figured out how to like marry everybody like it's the the way that people actually play those games now is the progression so you don't end up in that situation where it's like oh i've topped out as much as i can get on my own fuck I'm never, ever going to see the rest of whatever they've made.
[1389] Not that it's that big of a deal because I can still just play all these songs whenever, but oh well.
[1390] Now it's all fed right into it.
[1391] You can see that kind of at your own pace depending on how rugged you are with it, but it's easier than ever to get a group of people together and play that game.
[1392] All that overshell nonsense totally works.
[1393] Even just from what I saw a little bit, I saw the...
[1394] They kind of jump in, jump out, change difficulty in the middle of a song.
[1395] The drop in, drop out stuff is really, really good and really important, although Guitar Hero has been doing that for a couple of years now.
[1396] So it's good that they are taking that stuff, but it is not a brand new idea.
[1397] It just seems like I kind of agree with Jeff.
[1398] It just seems like they, I don't know, the kitchen sink is in.
[1399] Oh, yeah, absolutely.
[1400] I don't know where else it goes.
[1401] I don't understand how you make a Rock Band 4 after this.
[1402] You kind of don't.
[1403] That would be my guess.
[1404] You're out of instruments, too.
[1405] Pro what?
[1406] Turntables.
[1407] Oh, man. How nuts would it be if they just said, fuck it, we're just going to support that thing?
[1408] Not even going to make our own, but whatever.
[1409] Yeah, just go for it.
[1410] Maybe they start focusing on Dance Central, and they meet somewhere down the road, Dance Central and rock band, marry.
[1411] No. Shake your hips like Elvis while you play the guitar.
[1412] Yeah, that's Rock Band 3.
[1413] Hell of a game.
[1414] When's that out?
[1415] It's out this week.
[1416] It's out now.
[1417] How much could you spend if you want?
[1418] A thousand dollars.
[1419] I don't know what the official price is, even on the pro guitar, but I know it's...
[1420] It's $150, I think, isn't it?
[1421] It's also not out until the 15th.
[1422] I think that's what we've been told in an unofficial capacity.
[1423] I mean, EB's listing it.
[1424] Oh, are they?
[1425] I could go look right now.
[1426] I know they are listing it for $11 .15.
[1427] I don't know if that's the actual date or just some kind of placeholder, but that's...
[1428] Are they even doing new drums for this, or are they just...
[1429] Symbols.
[1430] For the promo stuff.
[1431] Symbols.
[1432] Man. The keys, the keytar is just a...
[1433] That's where you're finding the fun?
[1434] That was where I, like when I was kind of like making my run at the career stuff, I was almost exclusively playing the keys.
[1435] Because, you know, you're playing songs with keys in them and it's fun to kind of experience this different instrument for the first time.
[1436] But it still uses, you know, it's the five note track.
[1437] It's a familiar interface.
[1438] But it's crazy because you were doing it with the other hand.
[1439] So it's no different than the guitar parts where it's like you've got the five buttons, except that you are using all five of your fingers.
[1440] Did you go through the tutorial stuff?
[1441] Yeah, they've got it listed as $149.
[1442] Okay, so $150 for the guitar and then a billion dollars for everything else.
[1443] Man, yeah, I don't think I'm ready.
[1444] But yeah, the key stuff feels really good.
[1445] And just the fact that, okay, you hit a song that doesn't have keys in it, just jump over to one of these other instruments and keep going.
[1446] Right.
[1447] And, yeah, just the shifting of that movement from one hand, from the left hand to the right hand for the keys, is kind of an interesting little bump in the learning process.
[1448] Do you see all the crazy leaderboard stuff they're doing?
[1449] Like, what do you mean?
[1450] So they've got, like, the obvious leaderboards, like, here's your number of fans and all this stuff.
[1451] But they have leaderboards for a lot of the goals.
[1452] So there'll be like the goal in there for stay in overdrive for 90 seconds.
[1453] Yeah.
[1454] So they have a leaderboard in there for how long you've stayed in overdrive.
[1455] And it's all it's online leaderboard.
[1456] And they've got, you know, like drum streak and, you know, base camera on pull offs.
[1457] It is total across all modes.
[1458] That game is constantly telling like popping up in weird spots of like what rank I am in some in something.
[1459] Yeah.
[1460] Like there are I know there are a shitload of like their track.
[1461] It's like a lot of really.
[1462] weird things they're tracking, which I thought was pretty cool.
[1463] None of the data I've seen seem that exotic, but...
[1464] There's a whole menu.
[1465] Like, you just gotta dig.
[1466] It's like a few layers down, but there's like 20 different leaderboards for weird shit in that game.
[1467] Cool.
[1468] I need to find out.
[1469] And you know what?
[1470] At first, I was put off by it, but I have come around on the change in character designs that they've made.
[1471] Oh, yeah, yeah.
[1472] It's weird because a lot of the same objects and hairstyles and things that you saw from Rock Band and Rock Band 2 are still in there.
[1473] They've just kind of, I don't know, I feel like grown up the models a little bit.
[1474] It's slightly more Beatles -y, right?
[1475] It's just kind of.
[1476] It doesn't seem, it's, I guess.
[1477] Or it's like the Beatles tech applied to the Rock Band design aesthetic or something.
[1478] Like the new dashboard?
[1479] It's close.
[1480] It's almost like that where it's like, okay, just the proportions are slightly different, but the tone and the style hasn't really changed to the point that a lot of the actual clothing items are identical.
[1481] I appreciate the way that they've kind of streamlined the clothing acquisition stuff.
[1482] Clothing store stuff is way better too.
[1483] Oh, man, not having to like jump out to like – because you remember the store before?
[1484] Yeah, go to your closet or whatever.
[1485] Well, because it was like when you were searching for stuff to buy, I was like, okay, I want a shirt.
[1486] I was like, well, you have to – we have it broken out by style.
[1487] So you go to each style section and then go look at the shirts in each one.
[1488] You can still do that, but then while you're in one of those sections, you can say – or while you're looking at shirts, you can say, all right, jump to this other style, and it's just like a button press away.
[1489] They also have a new store as part of this that is kind of insidious and a little gross.
[1490] But everything that's in there is terrible.
[1491] A little micro transaction.
[1492] You can buy t -shirts with band logos on them for your rock band guys, not your Xbox guys, for a dollar a pop.
[1493] So it's like, I wanted this Doors t -shirt.
[1494] Right now it's all Doors and Jimi Hendrix shirts.
[1495] Spinal Tap.
[1496] Spinal Tap shirts.
[1497] Like Bob Marley.
[1498] Hey, man, if you want to make your band uncool.
[1499] Yeah, exactly.
[1500] Are you going to wear someone else's T -shirt?
[1501] Come on.
[1502] It's your choice.
[1503] Don't wear your own T -shirt, but don't wear anybody else's.
[1504] A sucker who is willing to pay a dollar for a virtual Bob Marley shirt deserves to have that dollar taken.
[1505] I guess so.
[1506] So I need to see what the deal is with the controller stuff, with the MIDI stuff, because I have my MIDI controller at home.
[1507] If I can...
[1508] It's USB, but I don't think that works, right?
[1509] You need the MIDI converter.
[1510] And they sell that already?
[1511] I don't think that's actually out yet.
[1512] I think that's coming out with the, because I think the real guitar controller requires that thing.
[1513] Oh, the Fender one.
[1514] Yeah, I think.
[1515] That stuff's still a little confusing, and they haven't really been forthcoming about.
[1516] compatibility with different electronic drums and different keyboards.
[1517] I think it's just because there are so many different ones out there.
[1518] It's kind of hard to know.
[1519] Maybe I'm ready to re -up everything.
[1520] I still have Rock Band 1 drums and maybe it's time I buy the billion dollar bundle and say F you to my neighbors.
[1521] Definitely.
[1522] I was playing on some Rock Band 1 drums for the first time this weekend in a long time.
[1523] Even just compared to the Rock Band 2.
[1524] Guitar Hero drums are still the quietest of the bunch.
[1525] I haven't played anything on the...
[1526] Ion, so I don't know.
[1527] But yes, shocking.
[1528] Holy shit.
[1529] Between Rock Band 1 and 2, how much quieter the drums got.
[1530] It's a market improvement.
[1531] I don't know.
[1532] Like, talk around a story, Stephen Totello did about Freeze Pop current incarnation tours using one of those keytar controllers.
[1533] Really?
[1534] Yeah.
[1535] They used it in shows.
[1536] I'm worried about the money I'm going to have to shell out to get back in the game at this point.
[1537] I don't know.
[1538] You already have 100 guitars, right?
[1539] But I'm going to buy that pro guitar.
[1540] You figure that's $150.
[1541] What's the keyboard bundles?
[1542] That's $100, right?
[1543] It's like $100 for the keyboard bundles.
[1544] So that's $250.
[1545] Another set of drums with the cymbals.
[1546] Probably another $150.
[1547] I don't know about that much.
[1548] I don't think it's that much.
[1549] Yeah, if you're going to start to actually lay out some cash, just get the island drums instead.
[1550] I need like a rock band room at that point.
[1551] Well, yeah.
[1552] Well, of course.
[1553] I'll put it right next to my connect.
[1554] Yeah, just put it in your connect room, and then when that's done.
[1555] Just move the stove out of the kitchen.
[1556] Right.
[1557] Obviously.
[1558] What do you need that for?
[1559] Seriously.
[1560] My power gig room.
[1561] Brad, you play any StarCraft this weekend?
[1562] Yeah, your power gig room.
[1563] I played some StarCraft.
[1564] I played some power gig.
[1565] It was not good.
[1566] Tell me about your StarCraft.
[1567] I played it.
[1568] I won, mostly.
[1569] Did it take a lot of adjustment to get used to patches that you weren't necessarily up on?
[1570] I'm trying to even remember what the last patch did.
[1571] Not a lot of changes for me in that last patch.
[1572] It's mostly all been about balancing Terran and Zerg.
[1573] That is the specific matchup.
[1574] It's not even to the point at the pro levels where people are saying X -Faction is too powerful or not powerful enough.
[1575] It's literally this matchup.
[1576] Like this faction against this faction is what's messed up.
[1577] So Protoss, largely not a part of the major changes.
[1578] They did have some tweaks.
[1579] You ready for TNT?
[1580] You ready to do some fighting?
[1581] Getting there.
[1582] Excellent.
[1583] We'll try to play some more before then.
[1584] Play some StarCraft 2, Thursday Night Throwdown.
[1585] Join us.
[1586] My only concern is that me and Norm both are Protoss players.
[1587] That's 33 % of the game being tapped there for our thing, for our show.
[1588] That's okay.
[1589] We'll break that up with some...
[1590] George Washington.
[1591] That might work.
[1592] You're going to play Washington?
[1593] You two should take on other.
[1594] You should go 2v2.
[1595] You and Norm.
[1596] Oh, yeah.
[1597] We can't just do 1v1 the entire time.
[1598] No, I agree.
[1599] I agree.
[1600] That would be cool, actually.
[1601] Yeah, we should definitely do that.
[1602] And while that's going on, Mike Tatum and Shelby Vani will be engaging in the Tournament of Champions.
[1603] I'm not sure.
[1604] Civilization V. They're both on the hook for us.
[1605] I told them clear their schedules for Thursday afternoon.
[1606] I don't know if they've taken us seriously yet.
[1607] Is Tatum playing that game?
[1608] I know Shelby is playing.
[1609] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1610] They're both playing it.
[1611] Both of them.
[1612] I think Shelby more than Mike, so Mike's going to have to step it up because Shelby's putting the screws to him right now.
[1613] I think Shelby is stoked to be involved.
[1614] So Mike's getting dragged into it.
[1615] Great.
[1616] This is going to be fun.
[1617] I'm looking forward to it.
[1618] And it was the only way I could figure to get Civ 5 into this show.
[1619] So did it.
[1620] So yeah, I also played a bunch of Rock Band 3 over the weekend.
[1621] I also ended up playing a little bit more Sims 3 for the PlayStation 3 than I anticipated.
[1622] We got a copy last week.
[1623] I noticed that you got a job and maxed out your karma.
[1624] Oh, how did you find that out?
[1625] I read about it on the internet.
[1626] Oh, really?
[1627] Like on fucking Twitter and fucking Facebook.
[1628] Oh, like on both services?
[1629] Yeah, on fucking both.
[1630] See, I totally feel like I saw that as well, and I immediately thought they should...
[1631] If they're going to do it, they should make it so you make a Twitter account in Sims from your Sim, and he tweets that stuff.
[1632] I think that the tweets should just be in Simlish, so it just comes out as fucking nonsense on your account.
[1633] Oh, you're saying it wasn't already?
[1634] From The Sims 3.
[1635] You're saying it wasn't already nonsense?
[1636] Your dude should totally have to have a computer, and one of the options should be tweet.
[1637] And he's under his account, tweets about his progress.
[1638] And that's how you find out how he's doing.
[1639] It's like, boy, I sure am hungry.
[1640] I'm willing to sacrifice myself and my social networking just to let people know what's going on out there.
[1641] This is what they've done.
[1642] This is what's in the game.
[1643] A couple of clicks, it doesn't take much for you to just annoy the shit out of everyone with the dumbest thing from your game.
[1644] We have to check this stuff out.
[1645] If we don't, who will?
[1646] Exactly.
[1647] Hopefully no one.
[1648] Exactly.
[1649] You know, you were the only one.
[1650] Well, I totally know.
[1651] I'm not the asshole.
[1652] EA is the asshole.
[1653] Right.
[1654] They're the one who put in this functionality.
[1655] But you are the conduit for this assholing.
[1656] I'm the conduit for the distribution of the information of the asshole tendency.
[1657] And when I read those messages, I thought less of the product.
[1658] So, like, working as intended, I guess.
[1659] I think if we invoke the associative property, that makes you an asshole.
[1660] I think you just won it then by that excellent piece of wordplay.
[1661] You take the asshole cake.
[1662] Boom.
[1663] The terrible cake.
[1664] Don't want the asshole cake.
[1665] It's too bad that that stuff is as overbearing as it seems, and it is, because that's not a bad game.
[1666] They've actually done a pretty respectable job.
[1667] We shot a lengthy quick look, Jinx, you owe me a Coke, of this game.
[1668] It's impressive how much of what makes The Sims 3 on the PC work on consoles.
[1669] They have to do some crazy shit with the interface and controls and stuff, but a lot of it's pretty smart.
[1670] You look at The Sims in the past on consoles, it's always like, well, we made this game that basically features characters that look like Sims, but this is not.
[1671] Right, yeah, it's always been.
[1672] This is not identifiable as The Sims, as people who really like The Sims know it.
[1673] What kind of Coke do you want?
[1674] What?
[1675] What kind of Coke do you want?
[1676] Like a Diet Coke?
[1677] Diet Coke?
[1678] Yeah.
[1679] If you're going to go get, I would like one.
[1680] I'll pay you for one.
[1681] Okay.
[1682] He's going to press on me until the end of the podcast now.
[1683] I'm so jinxed.
[1684] Technically, you're not even supposed to be talking.
[1685] I'm being pretty bad about enforcing this jinx.
[1686] Oh, really?
[1687] I got by a Coke and break the spell?
[1688] That's not how it works.
[1689] You say if he talks, then he owes you the Coke.
[1690] Oh.
[1691] How many Cokes do I owe you?
[1692] Whoever talks first.
[1693] Our quick look was long.
[1694] It was.
[1695] I think it was only long because we tried to murder the guy.
[1696] We got dead set on murdering our son.
[1697] Murder him or have him die?
[1698] Same.
[1699] I guess you took the door away.
[1700] That's a murder.
[1701] Does God murder people?
[1702] Yes.
[1703] Well, then.
[1704] I don't know.
[1705] That's a tough question.
[1706] Yeah.
[1707] What if God was one of us?
[1708] That's a tougher question.
[1709] Think about it.
[1710] Man, he would probably take the doors off the walls.
[1711] Yeah.
[1712] Watch people poop.
[1713] That's right.
[1714] That's right.
[1715] So, yeah.
[1716] I threw that in initially just like, all right, let's see what this is about because I want to do something with this next week.
[1717] And then just like four hours like, oh, wow, I just got simmed.
[1718] It did to me exactly what the PC versions will do and just suck away the time.
[1719] So I did find that impressive.
[1720] The sims would be better or worse if they talked.
[1721] A lot of load times did way worse.
[1722] Worse?
[1723] Worse.
[1724] I know you don't like the simlish.
[1725] What if they broke into real words as you were killing them?
[1726] They broke character.
[1727] Why are you doing this to me?
[1728] The thing is, you want the suggestion of what they're doing.
[1729] You don't want the explicit.
[1730] Because then you actually would hear the exact same conversations over and over again.
[1731] Right now, it's like, well, it sounds like I'm hearing the same noises, but it doesn't really matter because it's just noises.
[1732] But if you heard someone have the same bullshit small talk conversation with someone else whenever they interacted on that level, this is terrible.
[1733] You still, you know, you've got...
[1734] Just get Vocaloid support in there.
[1735] Generate it all on the fly.
[1736] I don't know what that is.
[1737] It's a voice synth.
[1738] Pretty good.
[1739] All right, let's take it to news.
[1740] Wait.
[1741] What?
[1742] Are we not actually going to talk about Fable 3?
[1743] Oh, I brought it.
[1744] Do you want to talk about Fable 3?
[1745] You want to?
[1746] Is it too soon?
[1747] Are you ready?
[1748] I think we're going to pop this bubble.
[1749] It was out this week.
[1750] We should probably talk about it.
[1751] Okay.
[1752] I brought it to you.
[1753] I asked about StarCraft.
[1754] That was my kind of opening up to...
[1755] I'm on the fence because I'm ready to dive into it tomorrow.
[1756] I don't want you to go...
[1757] You seem hesitant.
[1758] Brad, spoiler shoemaker on me. Finish the game.
[1759] The embargo's up.
[1760] Let's do it.
[1761] Let's talk about Fable 3.
[1762] What do you want to know?
[1763] How is it?
[1764] Is that game good?
[1765] It's okay.
[1766] It's okay.
[1767] It's a lot of high points and low points.
[1768] I don't know.
[1769] Fable 2 dominated so much of this podcast that I'm like...
[1770] I'm starting to feel like I'm being back stared into a corner here.
[1771] Tell me about Fable 3 now.
[1772] What do you want to know?
[1773] Do you get a dog?
[1774] You start with a dog.
[1775] Okay.
[1776] How are the choices?
[1777] Do you feel like they are weighty?
[1778] Oh, man. Game mechanics and storyline collectively take a sharp left turn toward the end of the game.
[1779] How far towards the end of the game?
[1780] How much enjoyment can I have before I veer left?
[1781] You might like this last segment of the game.
[1782] I don't know.
[1783] I didn't particularly care for the way it was implemented.
[1784] Saying if I'm an idiot?
[1785] Oh.
[1786] I mean, it's a matter of...
[1787] You might like it.
[1788] You might really like it.
[1789] If you're a piece of shit.
[1790] You might really like this.
[1791] Do you like asshole cake?
[1792] Yep.
[1793] You probably really like this.
[1794] It's probably right up your alley.
[1795] It's one of my favorite magazines.
[1796] It changes a good bit.
[1797] I mean...
[1798] My favorite cake cover band.
[1799] All I'm saying is that...
[1800] Either I have to tell you everything about why that happens, or we only talk about the game leading up to that.
[1801] You've said that there are design decisions throughout that lessen the experience for you.
[1802] Can you talk about what basic things about it are bad?
[1803] Even before that stuff happens, like when it's just a Fable game, and you're just questing and you're roaming around Albion and all that stuff.
[1804] They had the issues with the interface in the last game.
[1805] So instead of, like, making that interface better, they threw it out the window.
[1806] Yeah, I saw that.
[1807] Like, completely gone.
[1808] No HUD or...
[1809] I don't know how much of this stuff is old hat because it's been in preview coverage.
[1810] Like, I didn't keep up with it that much.
[1811] They showed, like, at E3, they showed, like, the room with the little map table and other rooms for seeing stuff.
[1812] Like, I...
[1813] And when they were showing off, I was like, okay, like, having a place to go to to, like, see what your shit's going to look like because fresh out of Fable 2, it was maddening.
[1814] how much time you spend, like, okay, let's try this piece on, back all the way out, wait for it to load up, look at it, nope, that's not what I want, go back into the menu, wait for it to load, like, it was a grueling fucking process.
[1815] That aspect of that, like, dressing your character up and stuff like that, like, it's tremendously streamlined.
[1816] Yeah.
[1817] That little thing is way better.
[1818] Changing the, like, brightness or audio options.
[1819] I mean, you can literally cycle through the outfits with triggers and they happen instantly and you can take stuff on and off, but that little hub, like, they call it the sanctuary, is just this bizarre, like, intermediate step.
[1820] between being in the game world and getting to anything that you want to do like looking at the map save menu saving your game changing the volume of the audio like you have to go to like bodily teleport your guy to this little hub and run up to, like, the panel on the wall that lets you do that stuff.
[1821] I did see you.
[1822] You showed me how you're circumventing it by hitting the guide.
[1823] Was it hitting the guide button?
[1824] Yeah, so I finally figured out you could at least get the little window that has, like, it's, like, just save game, turn on subtitles, audio, stuff like that.
[1825] Things you would normally get by hitting start.
[1826] Right, because when you hit start, you go to the hub.
[1827] So, like, you just pop the Xbox guide and then turn it right off immediately, and that would bring up that little kind of tech menu.
[1828] Which was weird.
[1829] Like you said, for some of that stuff, like for going to the armory, you can see all your swords on the wall.
[1830] That's pretty cool.
[1831] You're changing all your outfits.
[1832] That makes sense.
[1833] But making you go to that place and run up to the map table and hit the map button to go to the map and then hit the quest log button when you could just map quest log to down on the D -pad.
[1834] Because all it is is a window.
[1835] It's just a little UI window that pops up over top of the map once you've gotten there.
[1836] That's a bummer.
[1837] I'm no game designer, but I can't imagine any reason you couldn't just shortcut that.
[1838] The fact that there is nothing assigned to the back button on the controller is just maddening.
[1839] When you told me that, I'm like, okay, that's...
[1840] I was ready to be like, okay, I'm willing to buy into some of Molyneux's bullshit on some reasons of why you would do this or the effectiveness of this or that.
[1841] But if you're not even doing anything with the back button.
[1842] Buttons are going to waste on that controller.
[1843] I went to the manual.
[1844] In service of this weird little hut thing.
[1845] How often do you crack open a manual at this point?
[1846] Every game.
[1847] Yeah, but you're weird.
[1848] Cover to cover.
[1849] I just like reading manuals.
[1850] Like, yeah, you look at the controller.
[1851] Make sure to use your license degree, man, screw me over.
[1852] Well, dude, where do you put your notes?
[1853] Okay, fair enough.
[1854] Private passwords down.
[1855] Dude, your graph paper.
[1856] I mean, I looked in the manual at the controller diagram to make sure I wasn't missing something, and the back button is just conspicuously sitting there on that diagram with nothing pointing to it.
[1857] It's so weird.
[1858] That seems like the sort of thing that would cause a level of outcry that would lead them to eventually patch that in.
[1859] I don't know.
[1860] We'll see.
[1861] I mean, there's no – the mapping system isn't any better, right, than Fable 2?
[1862] It's not like you'd pull up a map of – I remember the map was kind of atrocious.
[1863] It's not as functional as it could be.
[1864] It's okay.
[1865] Do you have a compass point?
[1866] Are you on the map at all?
[1867] Not really, no. Like it doesn't give you a good proper frame of reference for like, okay, I am at this building.
[1868] I need to walk down three houses and turn left.
[1869] Like it's still not that informative.
[1870] So I feel like I've talked to you a fair amount about kind of these mechanical interface -y things, but, like, the actual crux of this game, have they thrown out the whole, like, your impact on the world and the world evolving because of that?
[1871] No, not at all.
[1872] Is that still, like, part of the thing?
[1873] I don't want to be that hard on this game because that's the bummer.
[1874] Like, underneath all that interface stuff, it's a good Fable game.
[1875] Yeah.
[1876] Like, it feels like Fable, and it...
[1877] Plays well.
[1878] I mean, I like the combat.
[1879] So here's what Fable 2 did along with what Ryan was saying that I think made Fable 2 stand out in a kind of bigger way than Fable 1.
[1880] They broke the game up into chunks of time so that you would be able to do actions and then let like 10 years pass and come back and really kind of see the impact that those choices made over the course of like 10 years.
[1881] Like this town is totally gone.
[1882] Or this guy.
[1883] I just went from a little village to it's totally built up now.
[1884] I wouldn't say anything.
[1885] So there are about three phases of that in Fable 2 where you're a little kid, you're an adolescent, and then you're an old man. With a couple of minor exceptions, it's nothing that profound at all.
[1886] I just saw you in Bowerstone Market and I kind of went a little...
[1887] Yeah.
[1888] Which is probably good then that you reviewed this because clearly...
[1889] My objectivity on that is not there.
[1890] I don't know.
[1891] I know people who were madly in love with Fable 2 who've played through this game and were pretty disappointed.
[1892] You've also said the atmosphere seems a little more industrialized.
[1893] Yeah, one thing they do really well is make Albion feel like it's moved on.
[1894] They don't say exactly, maybe 40, 50 years after the last game.
[1895] Right, because you're the offspring of your character.
[1896] You're the younger child of...
[1897] your character from the second game, although you don't import that character.
[1898] That's such a bummer.
[1899] Yeah.
[1900] Really?
[1901] No. Not directly.
[1902] But I mean, does it even look at that stuff at all?
[1903] I actually don't know.
[1904] I'm actually not sure because I didn't have a Fable 2 save on my console.
[1905] Okay.
[1906] I think they've said that it does not pull anything.
[1907] But I was talking to Scooter over at 1 -Up.
[1908] So, you know, you can play male or female character.
[1909] Sure.
[1910] I played a male character and it referred to the hero king.
[1911] Like, the monarch has passed away.
[1912] Like, when you start the game, that hero is dead.
[1913] but all the chatter was like oh your father the great king and then scooter was saying when in his game it was like the the heroine queen you know like talking about the legendary queen or whatever but he also played a female character so i don't know if that came from his choice of character or because he said he had a female fable 2 character on his drive i don't i don't know but if it's not gonna be an option to import it um I mean, I have like three characters on there, so which one would it even pick?
[1914] Yeah, I don't know.
[1915] You're probably right.
[1916] I would assume.
[1917] I actually need to go make a female character and mess around with that.
[1918] Check it out.
[1919] What were we talking about?
[1920] Able.
[1921] Yeah, okay, right.
[1922] Choices.
[1923] Three.
[1924] Like have they built, but I mean have they.
[1925] Oh, right, right, yeah.
[1926] So I mean.
[1927] The choices stuff, yeah.
[1928] Well, yeah, so you pick your character.
[1929] You start up like you're the younger brother of the king or the younger sister.
[1930] Yeah.
[1931] Who is the older brother, Logan.
[1932] That guy's a dick.
[1933] Sure.
[1934] He is running Albion into the ground.
[1935] Bummer.
[1936] He is a real jerk.
[1937] Reaver from Fable 2, if you remember him, Stephen Fry.
[1938] Yes.
[1939] The character is like the king of industry now.
[1940] He's like the head of...
[1941] It's a very industrialized nation.
[1942] It feels very, like, sort of...
[1943] Like mid -Victorian stuff.
[1944] Colonial, yeah, yeah.
[1945] Like, all the soldiers are wearing red coats with, like, muskets.
[1946] Yeah.
[1947] And it's tons of, like, real industrialized...
[1948] Lots of factories and smokestacks and, like, urchins working, you know, very, like, dirty, polluted.
[1949] Kind of Dickensian in a way.
[1950] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1951] Like, that's one of the things that really, like, I found appealing about Fable 2 over the first Fables.
[1952] Like, the first Fables, like, this is...
[1953] medieval English fantasy.
[1954] Swords and sorcery, yeah.
[1955] And then they kind of started getting some more modern elements into it as far as setting.
[1956] Almost seampunk, but not explicitly.
[1957] And so to see them keep evolving that kind of aesthetic along with the series is exciting.
[1958] They further advanced that really smoothly.
[1959] That's definitely to its credit.
[1960] Yeah, it's just that interface stuff.
[1961] I was willing to give the game a pass on those issues, but then I ran into this late -game stuff that just...
[1962] I can't wait to get into it.
[1963] Left such a bad taste in my mouth.
[1964] I was just deeply disappointed in the way it concluded.
[1965] And you feel like it wasn't telegraphed enough, like the multiple options?
[1966] That's kind of the problem.
[1967] It's hard to talk about without you knowing what the scenario is.
[1968] But, I mean, there's a huge degree of variability in the way the ending of the game plays out.
[1969] Yeah.
[1970] But...
[1971] I felt like I had a good handle on all the options and all the things I needed to do to make it happen the way I wanted to.
[1972] Then all of a sudden it jumps forward in time at one point and you lose the chance to implement some of those things that you were planning to do.
[1973] Fable 2 was pretty explicit about when those...
[1974] You should go say goodbye to your wife and kids.
[1975] Seriously.
[1976] Go talk to this person.
[1977] This needed that badly because I barreled past a point of no return without realizing I was doing it until after the fact.
[1978] It auto -saves every time you do anything.
[1979] But there was no way to go back and change anything.
[1980] How's the humor?
[1981] It's hilarious.
[1982] It's like the good things about the Fable series are in full effect here.
[1983] How's the farting?
[1984] Pretty good.
[1985] Okay.
[1986] You fart on a guy's face, he throws up.
[1987] Good old ass cake on a guy and just watch him vomit.
[1988] Yeah.
[1989] Great.
[1990] I married a lady.
[1991] That's right.
[1992] You got some co -op.
[1993] I had a kid.
[1994] Well, this was an AI lady.
[1995] Oh, okay.
[1996] I thought you were talking about Scooter.
[1997] I had a kid with her and then I co -opped with Scooter.
[1998] and married his lady and then we had a kid nice and then he met my other wife or she met my my wives met yes my baby mamas got together and how did that go interacted he since he was playing a character he was able to interact with my other wife uh i don't know there was they get married there was no cat fight option i understand um they did yeah they've improved the co -op but good separate screen on the yeah like you like you bring your full character into the other person's world now split up at least Within the same area.
[1999] So, like, I think if you fast travel to Bowerstone, the other person can't leave Bowerstone, I think.
[2000] But it's not, like, within the screen distance.
[2001] Absolutely not, yeah.
[2002] Like, you can totally run.
[2003] Oh, man, I forgot how fucking bad the co -op field 2 was.
[2004] I think it was one person's camera control, too, in the whole thing.
[2005] And, you know, since you're bringing your fully leveled character in, you can gift pretty much anything you have to the other guy, which is kind of cool.
[2006] Is there an achievement for some shared item across?
[2007] Bummer.
[2008] There's like 50 epic or heroic weapons in the world.
[2009] Do you have one?
[2010] Pokemon style, not all of them will show up in your playthrough.
[2011] So you have to find other players that have the ones that you...
[2012] All right.
[2013] Hey.
[2014] Hey.
[2015] What's going on?
[2016] How you doing?
[2017] Get this weapon.
[2018] Great, let's get on the Giant Bomb forums.
[2019] Honestly, I don't doubt the stuff being fucked up at the end, but you've danced around it so specifically.
[2020] It's like, man, now I really want to play this game just so I can see what the fucked up thing is.
[2021] The turning point they may have talked about in the preview coverage.
[2022] I don't know.
[2023] I haven't really kept up with that stuff.
[2024] I'm bummed that there's not more importing from Fable 2.
[2025] It seems like a real downer.
[2026] I have so much money in Fable 2, especially if I turned it on at this point.
[2027] I want that to be in the treasury of the gods.
[2028] I did actually turn it on not too long ago because there was that Games on Demand thing happened, and I got it.
[2029] So I'm like, let's see if this works.
[2030] And, yeah, because it does the, like, all right, you're back.
[2031] Here, let us give you all the money we've been saving up.
[2032] Oh, God.
[2033] I was like, I have all of it now.
[2034] That's probably exactly why they didn't do that because everyone would be in that situation where games have been out for too long for everyone not to just be rich.
[2035] And I started in a busted state because I started with all of that.
[2036] Pub games money.
[2037] Dirty money.
[2038] I had a lot of pub games money too.
[2039] Yeah, filthy pub games money.
[2040] Money is still not a big deal.
[2041] Do you grow horns and get angelic?
[2042] I played as good as I could.
[2043] I was trying to be the benevolent.
[2044] Did you glow?
[2045] Did you get a halo?
[2046] You get...
[2047] Are you a chicken chaser?
[2048] No. When I finished the game, I got an extreme good emote, which you use when you interact with somebody, and then you sprout these energy angel wings for a second.
[2049] You don't run around with horns or a halo or anything like that.
[2050] But your weapons change, right?
[2051] Your weapons evolve a little bit, not a ton.
[2052] As you level them up, yeah, the appearance starts to look a little more...
[2053] Badass, I guess.
[2054] And do you feel like you could speed run that game if you want to do a second playthrough?
[2055] Yeah, you could probably do it in six or eight hours if you skipped all the side stuff and just barrel through.
[2056] Yeah, I guess.
[2057] I don't know.
[2058] There's no achievements that reward that.
[2059] Really?
[2060] Maximum goodiness?
[2061] I'm talking to some other people who have finished it.
[2062] The endings don't seem to vary all that much.
[2063] Or at least the way the ending can mainly vary doesn't really have to do with your alignment.
[2064] I'm a bummer.
[2065] Yeah, I don't know, man. I had really vastly different play experiences going through Fable 2, Evil, and Good.
[2066] Yeah, I would believe that.
[2067] A lot more fun on the Evil side.
[2068] The quest stuff was a lot faster, too, because you're just killing everybody.
[2069] I don't need this quest.
[2070] And talking to some of these people who finished it, yeah, it sounds like a lot of stuff can vary.
[2071] It's just...
[2072] We'll have our real Fable 3 discussion in like a month.
[2073] For the rest of the year.
[2074] Well, no, when you guys have finished it, we can actually talk freely about it.
[2075] First DLC comes out.
[2076] So you get a dog.
[2077] You get a dog in the game.
[2078] Yeah.
[2079] There's a dog.
[2080] Dog confirmed.
[2081] Well, I'm just wondering if the first DLC will be the dog resurrection DLC.
[2082] So, yeah, there is totally a thing about the ending.
[2083] Yeah.
[2084] Which is what pissed me off so much that I could totally see them retconning or fixing in a DLC.
[2085] I mean, I don't think it's a spoiler because I think the reason you put in a dog, as Peter Molyneux says, is so you can get emotionally attached and the only way to really kill that damn dog.
[2086] I knew that was coming in Fable 2.
[2087] You don't put the dog in the game unless you're going to kill the dog.
[2088] Make the dog all cute and your fun companion unless there's a reason for that.
[2089] Unless the dog is the villain, which would be even better.
[2090] That would be a bad twist.
[2091] Just walk in on the dog and your wife.
[2092] Now I have to edit all this out.
[2093] Oh, no. Now I have to edit out this entire Fable 3 conversation.
[2094] I didn't want you to see this.
[2095] Now you must die.
[2096] Now we don't have any time for news.
[2097] I hope you guys are happy.
[2098] We can talk a little bit about news.
[2099] We can talk about apparently.
[2100] So, you know APB.
[2101] All Points Bulletin.
[2102] Yeah, it's one of my favorite arcade games.
[2103] No, no, I'm talking about...
[2104] You gotta tap the siren four times to bust the stoners.
[2105] I'm talking about the shooter MMO.
[2106] That I don't really care for.
[2107] The real -time worlds game that died.
[2108] It's dead, but apparently the patcher is still patching, and apparently information is being disseminated through the patcher.
[2109] Of course, why wouldn't it be?
[2110] Like what?
[2111] Like where they get drugs?
[2112] Like there may be...
[2113] APB may not die, apparently.
[2114] Through the patcher, which you don't know who the source is for this.
[2115] Michael Patcher?
[2116] I don't think you're saying that right.
[2117] They're saying that the administration period is almost over.
[2118] So all of their British bankruptcy law or whatever.
[2119] They're finding buyers for the game, and apparently there are several people who are interested in running the live game.
[2120] At least that's what the game's patcher is saying.
[2121] Right.
[2122] If you can't trust that, who can you trust?
[2123] While we're on the news of shooter MMOs, the guys who make Global Agenda are making a tribes shooter MMO.
[2124] They have the tribes license.
[2125] Anyone here?
[2126] I know people get crazy about the tribes.
[2127] I know.
[2128] I played a bunch of tribes.
[2129] Same boat as you.
[2130] I know that you hear those people.
[2131] Jazz bot.
[2132] And they get excited about it, but then...
[2133] And then I bought and skiing or just about all I remember.
[2134] I think I missed somehow.
[2135] So one of the most memorable things about tribes was stolen from Mork and Mindy.
[2136] Yeah.
[2137] Great.
[2138] Great tribes.
[2139] Great.
[2140] Tribes is cool.
[2141] I mean, tribes is like the first online big thing.
[2142] It was tribes in a lot of ways.
[2143] It was like the big precursor to the battlefield games.
[2144] Like I remember when 42 came out and everybody was like, holy shit, this is amazing.
[2145] I was like.
[2146] I was right on board.
[2147] I thought it was amazing, but also it was like Tribes did this large -scale battlefield plus vehicles thing.
[2148] Right, you were ordering up vehicles out of generators and flying around.
[2149] Really, it was just like the mixture of vehicles on a large map.
[2150] It wasn't like a tight corridor, like Quake kind of level.
[2151] As far as I know, Tribes kind of originated.
[2152] I just know that ever since Tribes came out...
[2153] every other piece of Tribes news is met with fury by Tribes fans.
[2154] Tribes fans are never happy with anything that's announced about Tribes.
[2155] Oh, yeah, yeah.
[2156] Tribes 2 is coming.
[2157] Oh, fuck!
[2158] Yeah, starting from Tribes 2.
[2159] Everybody hated Tribes 2.
[2160] Why are you making Tribes 2?
[2161] You're making it wrong.
[2162] Was there a 3?
[2163] It wasn't called Tribes 3.
[2164] Tribes Vengeance.
[2165] That was considered Tribes 4, I'm pretty sure.
[2166] That's the one that Irrational made.
[2167] Yeah.
[2168] Again, is Tribes an acronym?
[2169] It is, isn't it?
[2170] No, it's Starseeds Tribes.
[2171] Yeah, so it's part of the Starseeds universe.
[2172] It's a spin -off on its...
[2173] Oh, the Tribes lineage is awesome.
[2174] Tribes lineage is a terrible...
[2175] I don't even remember what it is.
[2176] Yeah, Tribes lineage, though, that's not the one you want to point out.
[2177] Oh, you mean Tribes lineage, the video game.
[2178] That's right.
[2179] Anyways, Global Agenda guys, I'm sure that's got to have Tribes fans stoked.
[2180] So...
[2181] Hey.
[2182] Hey.
[2183] Hey.
[2184] These guys already have a hit under their belt.
[2185] Hey.
[2186] Whatever.
[2187] What was the press release?
[2188] I think they probably paid like a dollar for that.
[2189] Yeah, who did they buy it from?
[2190] I don't even know who.
[2191] I don't even know who.
[2192] I don't even know who.
[2193] I don't even know who.
[2194] The Vendi probably had it.
[2195] Yeah, because Sierra.
[2196] I remember Sierra Publishing.
[2197] And they said, you don't want anything.
[2198] You want to take it?
[2199] Fine.
[2200] Kiss of death right here.
[2201] PSP Go, $199 starting now.
[2202] How much was it?
[2203] $250.
[2204] Awesome.
[2205] Jump in.
[2206] Now you can buy another one.
[2207] Now's the time.
[2208] You have to replace the one you can't find.
[2209] Now's the time we sell that BlizzCon stuff.
[2210] No, I'm good.
[2211] So, you know, there was the Manco store stuff that they launched for Team Fortress 2 where you could buy...
[2212] Tribe's Fortress 2?
[2213] Yes.
[2214] Where you could buy shit for the game.
[2215] It's a mod I'm working on.
[2216] So, apparently, they cut...
[2217] A bunch of the stuff was made by people as part of a contest for modding items.
[2218] So they cut some checks for some dudes that made these things.
[2219] Supposed to all that robotically created content for the original game.
[2220] Oh, that the patcher made?
[2221] Yeah.
[2222] I was writing these new stories.
[2223] The patcher speaks.
[2224] No, but like community dudes.
[2225] Jar of urine.
[2226] Go for it.
[2227] Community dudes.
[2228] Yeah.
[2229] Polycount had an item creation modding contest and people who made stuff got put into the store.
[2230] They apparently cut like checks between $39 ,000 and $47 ,000 to about five dudes.
[2231] What?
[2232] And Gamasutra did some backwards math on it and figured that that was about 25 % of the actual take on that stuff.
[2233] So since they launched the store, Valve has taken in about half a million dollars on those items.
[2234] We should launch an item store.
[2235] We should make items to put in the big game.
[2236] Yeah.
[2237] Who wants to buy?
[2238] I don't know.
[2239] Virtual goods.
[2240] A giant bomb hat.
[2241] Luchadeer mask and antlers gives you 20 % to instantly kill someone just by staring at them for four seconds or more.
[2242] So you're going to gimp the luchadeer?
[2243] Yeah.
[2244] It has to be balanced for gameplay purposes.
[2245] It's not nerfed.
[2246] He's never going to go for it.
[2247] If luchadeer understands one thing, it's fucking money.
[2248] He protects his brand.
[2249] He protects his intake by cutting me on my face.
[2250] I thought you were just going to save him.
[2251] From the patcher.
[2252] They got a date for NBA Jam for the 360 and PS3.
[2253] November 17th.
[2254] I'm so confused.
[2255] Isn't that like the last Tuesday?
[2256] That's like the last possible day that a game could come out, right?
[2257] That matters.
[2258] Yeah.
[2259] November 17th, $50.
[2260] It's going to have all the stuff, all the Remix Tour stuff.
[2261] The Jinx, Naomi, everything.
[2262] Now we're balanced.
[2263] Dude, that means those guys had like a month to get that stuff in.
[2264] Yeah, but they were already...
[2265] It sounds like they were already planning that stuff as DLC.
[2266] Okay.
[2267] So...
[2268] And also they already have that full game up and running on a Wii and all that.
[2269] I imagine – I ain't no game developer, but I imagine once you get the basic basketball part up and running, it's really just a matter of like, all right, now we put in these menus instead of these menus and this content instead of this content and go.
[2270] That's my guess.
[2271] So, yeah.
[2272] I'm probably oversimplifying.
[2273] Remix maybe a little bit, but Remix Tour 2 on 2, local and online, and then there's going to be a free title update, free patch.
[2274] down the road that will add some other gameplay modes and whatnot.
[2275] I love free patches.
[2276] So do we start playing that in the office?
[2277] I think they're saying that explicitly.
[2278] Probably not.
[2279] Saying it's not DLC.
[2280] Saying like, hey, we're not going to charge for this stuff when we put it out.
[2281] It will be a thing that we're going to slap on.
[2282] Somebody stick their head out the door there and holler at Sean Coon.
[2283] He just replaced all the buttons and everything.
[2284] I want to know if he's going to switch.
[2285] No, I think he'll probably keep playing the original.
[2286] Or he'll just keep playing the machine.
[2287] Invest in all those buttons in the arcade machine.
[2288] It's not quite the same.
[2289] Yeah, I'll be interested to see how that controls because, you know, it's a...
[2290] There's some stuff with the Wii Remote that doesn't necessarily translate super well to the classic controller.
[2291] So I imagine that they're going to use that control scheme for these.
[2292] Maybe they've received some feedback in the time between the launch of the Wii version.
[2293] Yeah, but online play, great.
[2294] That's what it needs.
[2295] And beyond that, it's kind of the traditional, hey, it's $10 more than the Wii game pricing scheme.
[2296] So that's okay.
[2297] You mean just as far as like that's an acceptable...
[2298] premium yeah they're charging 50 for it yeah and it's got all the features so and plus online so hurrah uh we'll see yeah we'll see uh minecraft uh got all fucked up from a denial of service attack this is what happens when you have one server that handles all your off is that someone went and Pooh -poohed.
[2299] D -D -O -S -ed it.
[2300] Wasn't there a reason that they gave?
[2301] Like, did they get mad about something?
[2302] Yo, man, the internet.
[2303] That's why.
[2304] Internet hacker gang.
[2305] The claim from this internet hacker gang that popped up on 4chan.
[2306] Yeah, it was 4chan, right?
[2307] So believe that.
[2308] Well, they apparently not affiliated with 4chan.
[2309] Never, no. Pool's open.
[2310] Yeah, as far as these hackers are concerned.
[2311] Yeah, the group is not claiming affiliation with 4chan, but they basically said that there weren't enough updates.
[2312] They wanted more updates to Minecraft.
[2313] So we're going to break it.
[2314] So denial of service attacks.
[2315] Well, yeah.
[2316] Fucking yeah.
[2317] Internet.
[2318] What?
[2319] God damn it.
[2320] You win, Internet.
[2321] Civ 5 coming to Mac this holiday.
[2322] Your friends at Aspire.
[2323] Your friends and mine.
[2324] The Macintosh people.
[2325] The people who bring the games you like to Macintoshes.
[2326] That's a bummer.
[2327] Aspire.
[2328] I thought it was out for Macintosh.
[2329] Yeah, not a lot of details.
[2330] Not even like a date.
[2331] Holiday.
[2332] So, same.
[2333] It's coming out day and date with Gran Turismo 5.
[2334] Look for it.
[2335] It's great.
[2336] Gran Turismo 5 and Civ 5.
[2337] Is Gran Turismo 5 coming to the Mac?
[2338] That's what they delayed it.
[2339] What is going to happen if Apple buys Sony?
[2340] What?
[2341] Why would that happen?
[2342] Did you not hear about this?
[2343] No, I did not hear about that.
[2344] It was in the New York Times today.
[2345] Jobs.
[2346] A lot of things in the New York Times.
[2347] Yeah, but this is coming from like...
[2348] contacts at investment firms and banks on wall street oh yeah so wait like serious interest jobs made uh comments i think it was during the earnings call last week apple has i don't know if you know this apple has 51 billion dollars in cash in the bank i don't know what i don't think there's a lot in cash is that does that exist like liquid acid like yeah picture didn't happen like we're not talking about market valuation i got a hundred seven dollars in my wallet right now like what what kind of cash right like usds 20, 40, 60, 80.
[2349] Do they actually have the fucking Scrooge McDuck vault somewhere?
[2350] To Fable 3's credit, you have a money bin.
[2351] There is a money bin in Fable 3.
[2352] Oh, is there?
[2353] It's called a bin?
[2354] As you make money, money piles up in your treasury, and you can actually run around on it.
[2355] I got $232 on me right now.
[2356] What are we doing?
[2357] We're walking around with way too much cash.
[2358] But he was saying, I think it was during the earnings call, he was saying we have this ridiculous amount of capital.
[2359] I don't know what to do with it.
[2360] We think there might be, like, some strategic acquisition opportunities in the near future that may benefit the company.
[2361] And Sony is at the top of the list of scuttlebutt on Wall Street.
[2362] It's such a weird, like, do you need to liquidate your assets to get ready to, like, buy something?
[2363] I have no idea.
[2364] I don't know.
[2365] Like, I'll offer you some cash because I want to go on a company buying experience.
[2366] The short list is also, like, Adobe, Netflix, and Disney.
[2367] Yeah, we bought Adobe and shut it the fuck down.
[2368] Flash doesn't exist anymore.
[2369] Now what?
[2370] That was the speculation.
[2371] Yeah, like they would just do that to kill Flash.
[2372] But anyway, whatever.
[2373] This being a podcast about video games.
[2374] I would be psyched.
[2375] What would happen if they bought Adobe?
[2376] No, no. But if Apple bought Sony, which seems like the...
[2377] Come on.
[2378] It would never happen.
[2379] Rebrand the PlayStation as the Pippin and done.
[2380] Good to go.
[2381] Sony's huge.
[2382] It's too huge and too crazy and covers too many...
[2383] It's incomprehensible to even think about.
[2384] And it's too Japanese.
[2385] That doesn't seem like a...
[2386] The stuff that Sony makes doesn't seem like a one -to -one great fit with Apple.
[2387] Do you really see Apple in the TV -making business?
[2388] I don't know.
[2389] Who knows, dude?
[2390] The breadth of product that Sony puts out.
[2391] Steve Jobs' track record, I'm not going to question his vision.
[2392] I guess he does own a bunch of Disney or something.
[2393] We'll see what happens.
[2394] Pixar and Disney.
[2395] I think he might be.
[2396] I think he's the largest single shareholder of Disney.
[2397] Just looking to buy something?
[2398] He's just looking to get in there?
[2399] I don't know.
[2400] Who knows what their plan is?
[2401] I was reading.
[2402] But he got into that business.
[2403] There's Sony, the content provider for movies and music and all that stuff.
[2404] That's a huge value to them because of the businesses that they're in.
[2405] Sure, yeah.
[2406] In content distribution.
[2407] The more parts of the chain they own.
[2408] Like, that's great.
[2409] But think about, like, if you're Apple inheriting all of the bullshit that also exists in Sony and, like, having to fix it.
[2410] It's like, okay, what are we killing off?
[2411] Google TV, gone.
[2412] Yep.
[2413] Like, that box goes.
[2414] Blu -ray, forget it.
[2415] All these fucking video cameras.
[2416] We don't really need them.
[2417] I mean, they don't really fit into our vision.
[2418] Let's go buy, like, David.
[2419] Sony Ericsson can S a D. It's a company with too much bulk and too spread out for them to be able to, like, format it into what they do.
[2420] Who knows what they're playing?
[2421] Yeah, I don't know.
[2422] It's hard to say.
[2423] I'm going to say it's not buying Sony.
[2424] If they could buy specific chunks of Sony.
[2425] Yeah, okay.
[2426] There are parts of Sony that I think are incredibly...
[2427] Online entertainment.
[2428] Yeah.
[2429] Now you're talking.
[2430] EverQuest.
[2431] Mac only.
[2432] Finally they can break into the games business like they've been trying so hard to do for the past 20 years.
[2433] You wanted to control this Star Wars Galaxies game.
[2434] We've heard a lot about it.
[2435] Also a fast -tracking planet side, too.
[2436] I did read an article recently that Jobs idolized Sony's...
[2437] production line and like everything about the company back when Apple was first getting into major hardware manufacturing.
[2438] I mean, the Sony of past.
[2439] Yeah, for sure.
[2440] I mean, there may be some bit of nostalgia there.
[2441] I don't know what the hell, like, who are we to say what's going through the mind of Steve Jobs?
[2442] They killed the Walkman, didn't they?
[2443] But he can't make those decisions.
[2444] The cassette Walkman, the Walkman line.
[2445] What else did they do?
[2446] I think there are MP3 players that are Walkman branded.
[2447] Blasphemy.
[2448] Really?
[2449] The whole reason I brought it up was like what happens to...
[2450] The PlayStation, like the Sony video game stuff.
[2451] Yeah.
[2452] If that happens, like, I don't know.
[2453] What happens to the PlayStation if they don't buy it?
[2454] You know what I'm saying?
[2455] Whoa.
[2456] You know what I'm saying?
[2457] Whoa.
[2458] You know what I'm saying?
[2459] Lastly, Patrice Desilets.
[2460] Am I saying that correctly?
[2461] Yeah.
[2462] Yes.
[2463] Yeah?
[2464] Yes.
[2465] Really?
[2466] Yes.
[2467] That was a total stab in the dark.
[2468] I don't think...
[2469] Close enough.
[2470] What?
[2471] I don't think...
[2472] You're still chewing on it earlier.
[2473] Sony is...
[2474] Like, Apple has been so adamant about fucking up games and not actually caring about games.
[2475] That if they ended up with the PlayStation brand, they would spin it off or something.
[2476] Just be like, yeah, whatever.
[2477] It's just one more box that sits on top of your TV.
[2478] We have the Apple TV.
[2479] Fuck this shit.
[2480] Blu -ray.
[2481] Hey, we own Blu -ray.
[2482] Guess what we're doing with Blu -ray?
[2483] Shutting it the fuck down.
[2484] Go to iTunes store.
[2485] Go get your HD DVDs.
[2486] So much of what Apple does is like counter -programming to the kinds of decisions that companies like Sony makes on a daily fucking basis.
[2487] Maybe they'll just invest in Sony.
[2488] And if they bought Sony, they would still run it as Sony.
[2489] It's possible.
[2490] I have no idea.
[2491] I have no idea.
[2492] Just be partnered with Sony.
[2493] The guy who made Prince of Persia, Sands of Time, and Assassin's Creed 2 doesn't work for Ubisoft anymore.
[2494] Why is that?
[2495] That's a bummer.
[2496] He's going to go work for THQ.
[2497] They've got a two -game Montreal studio up there.
[2498] There's some scuttlebutt that he might be working on this Guillermo del Toro.
[2499] Lovecraftian game, but guys at THQ are like, did we announce that?
[2500] No. THQ guys are being a little prickly to the press on some of this stuff, but I see their point.
[2501] Warhammer parkour game.
[2502] But he's not going to start until summer of 2011 out of respect.
[2503] For whom?
[2504] For Ubisoft.
[2505] He says, for the people who gave me my first shot.
[2506] But there you go, guy who made some cool games for Ubisoft.
[2507] There's some linear, like Patrice has history with some...
[2508] guy that is at THQ.
[2509] I think that's how that all got set up.
[2510] Yeah.
[2511] You know, good to see THQ kind of making a run at it these days.
[2512] Absolutely.
[2513] They've got their own partners program now.
[2514] At first I thought like, well, that seems like a dumb thing for THQ to have because who does THQ have to partner with?
[2515] And now they're saying these guys.
[2516] Well, not these guys.
[2517] Itagaki.
[2518] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[2519] Itagaki.
[2520] Double fine.
[2521] Double fine.
[2522] So when you say going over to THQ, it's not...
[2523] THQ Montreal is a studio that is going to go and make games.
[2524] Have they done anything?
[2525] Newly opened.
[2526] This is their first thing.
[2527] Did HQ do any of their own?
[2528] They're doing Homefront out of there, though, aren't they?
[2529] Or were they just showing Homefront at the opening?
[2530] Because that was the whole thing.
[2531] They invited us to go up to the opening.
[2532] I was like, it's like a big party.
[2533] I don't know, because that game has been in development for a while.
[2534] Yeah.
[2535] And they're just opening the studio.
[2536] But yeah, I guess they're saying he's working on some new IP.
[2537] So we'll find out about that.
[2538] A hotbed of development up there.
[2539] Montreal!
[2540] Stealth Murderers Credo.
[2541] Coming soon.
[2542] 40K.
[2543] That's 40K.
[2544] That's it for news.
[2545] Let's take it to new releases.
[2546] There are several.
[2547] Art Academy for the Nintendo DS.
[2548] That's out.
[2549] It's a drawing game.
[2550] I think we're going to take a look at that.
[2551] Manipulate some pictures.
[2552] Put a mustache on somebody.
[2553] Take a look at that.
[2554] Tony Hawk Shred for the Wii 360 and PlayStation 3.
[2555] Also definitely going to take a look at that.
[2556] They're being smart about this one this time.
[2557] Every single thing I've read about that game, like the first sentence is, this game's made for kids.
[2558] Like they say it right out.
[2559] They're not saying like, here's the next Tony Hawk game.
[2560] They're like, here's something for kids.
[2561] Yeah.
[2562] Here's something for kids.
[2563] Not you assholes who grew up drinking 40s and playing Tony Hawk 2.
[2564] Oh, well.
[2565] These are TV games for kids.
[2566] WWE Smackdown versus Raw 2011 for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Nintendo Wii, Sony PSP, and Xbox 360.
[2567] Also for kids.
[2568] Is there a date on that?
[2569] Also for kids.
[2570] 2011.
[2571] 2011.
[2572] 2011.
[2573] That was actually a pretty good...
[2574] Pretty good article I read over the weekend on Kotaku.
[2575] Yeah.
[2576] Interviewing someone at THQ where he pretty much actually – I think the quote is something like, yeah, we basically try to make these games look like the eight -year -old's vision of WWE on TV.
[2577] And I'm like, oh, fuck.
[2578] That's why I don't like any of these games.
[2579] They were talking about the kayfabe stuff a lot, which I thought was – Yeah, yeah.
[2580] Which was good.
[2581] And how they have to basically make it like a fighting game.
[2582] Just like – Yeah.
[2583] Because of – it's like they're never going to like wink and nod to the true nature of sports entertainment.
[2584] Exactly.
[2585] But as long as I can hit JR with a car, I can kind of...
[2586] In that same article, they talked about the WWE Universe stuff.
[2587] Yeah, some of that stuff is...
[2588] It does sound like they're headed in the right direction.
[2589] It's just the part where you have to play it that's always going to be like, yeah.
[2590] I totally agree.
[2591] The parts around it, that seems cool.
[2592] You could have some fun there.
[2593] This seems like some crazy shit in a wrestling way.
[2594] But then you get into the ring, it's like, wait, this is terrible.
[2595] Yeah, too bad.
[2596] Star Wars The Force Unleashed 2.
[2597] PC, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, and Xbox 360.
[2598] CSI Fatal Conspiracy for the PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, and Xbox 360.
[2599] The Sims 3 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo DS.
[2600] Blood Drive for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
[2601] That's from Sheet.
[2602] Yeah.
[2603] Guys who made Shatter.
[2604] I guess they also made a shitload of racing games before they made Shatter.
[2605] Oh, yeah.
[2606] New Zealand -based developer.
[2607] And we should be having some copies of that coming in soon.
[2608] Oh, wait.
[2609] I need to actually revise this.
[2610] Apparently, Blood Drive is shipping out for pre -orders right now, but will not be coming out properly into stores until next week.
[2611] So if you didn't already pre -order a copy of Blood Drive.
[2612] What?
[2613] I don't know.
[2614] This is handed down from PR because I was asking about Blood Drive because I saw it listed on stores.
[2615] You pre -ordered it.
[2616] You're getting it this week.
[2617] But if you didn't, it's going to be in stores next week.
[2618] Some weird deal like Sean White PS3 getting pushed back.
[2619] It's a pre -order.
[2620] It's a pre -order.
[2621] I didn't.
[2622] Monopoly Streets for Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3.
[2623] The 360 version is listed for a different date.
[2624] But I think maybe all of these might be coming at a different date.
[2625] LEGO Universe.
[2626] PC.
[2627] I think that might be out.
[2628] This might be like box copies coming out where the service has been running for a while.
[2629] I know the beta has been going forever.
[2630] The fight lights out.
[2631] The fight lights out for PlayStation 3.
[2632] That's a move game featuring Danny Trejo.
[2633] Danny Trejo.
[2634] And headlocks.
[2635] Put a dude in a headlock and hit him in the face.
[2636] Rock Band 3 for the PlayStation 3, Wii 360, and Nintendo DS.
[2637] Get your Rock Band unplugged on now with stylus support.
[2638] Fable 3 for the Xbox 360.
[2639] And Sean White's skateboarding.
[2640] Game.
[2641] For nothing.
[2642] I guess for 360, but not for PS3.
[2643] For 360 and Wii.
[2644] And then they said that PS3 and PC would be due out later this week.
[2645] They were originally all supposed to come out on Sunday.
[2646] Or at least the PS3 was supposed to be out on Sunday.
[2647] But then there was that weird recall.
[2648] Right.
[2649] All the PS3 copies got recalled, apparently, according to a cell phone picture of a piece of paper saying, send these back!
[2650] Oh, no. You think it was some, like, PSRB thing, or, like...
[2651] I don't know.
[2652] The disc is full of gay porn.
[2653] Which one did you burn?
[2654] The one with the Stride logos or the one with the dudes going at the dudes?
[2655] The dudes one.
[2656] I'm pretty sure it's the Stride one.
[2657] Wait, let me check.
[2658] Fuck!
[2659] How bad would it be if it were the other one?
[2660] I'm pretty bad.
[2661] It's Blu -ray quality.
[2662] It's beautiful stuff.
[2663] Okay.
[2664] It's all legal.
[2665] These guys, I got the papers right here.
[2666] They're all over 18.
[2667] All right, so Xbox Live Marketplace releases.
[2668] I'm going to consider most of these suggestions.
[2669] Things they should release, perhaps.
[2670] That I've heard they might.
[2671] Yeah.
[2672] But as we've seen since last week's Game Room no -shows.
[2673] Man, I can't believe that those didn't come out and I'm so depressed.
[2674] Which part can't you believe?
[2675] That those games didn't come out?
[2676] I can't believe that you're so depressed.
[2677] Jackal, dude.
[2678] Of course, of course, when it was going to be Jackal.
[2679] The one week that it's like a game, you're like, dude, fucking Jackal.
[2680] Jackal's pretty cool.
[2681] I even got emails from people being like, I went to go and play because I heard Jackal and I love Jackal.
[2682] I remember Jackal.
[2683] You think somebody just forgot?
[2684] Remember when they had that song with the chainsaw in it?
[2685] Yep.
[2686] You think like, oh, that was stupid.
[2687] Like, I don't know.
[2688] Oh, fuck.
[2689] Oh, I got to do that.
[2690] No, because it's one guy.
[2691] It's not like it was on someone else's like, okay, like one week he does it and one week I do it.
[2692] It's like, it's my thing every week.
[2693] I got to go push the thing.
[2694] You know, push the game room button.
[2695] Chrome went down.
[2696] He had buddies at Chrome.
[2697] He's been working with them a lot because they were doing the thing.
[2698] They're just like, ah, fuck.
[2699] I'm, I don't know.
[2700] I'm not, I won't put it out this week.
[2701] It's for you guys.
[2702] I got it.
[2703] Breaking news.
[2704] I got a Twitter message from a guy.
[2705] He said he was in a bar with a guy from Chrome.
[2706] Yep.
[2707] And the guy from Chrome said there's a bunch of Midway stuff coming soon.
[2708] Breaking.
[2709] Breaking accurate news.
[2710] Breaking game room news.
[2711] I would say like in a bar and we're like, hey, we were going to do all this green Midway stuff.
[2712] I emulated it.
[2713] We had these fucking great ideas for this stuff.
[2714] We tested this guy.
[2715] He's a really tall guy.
[2716] Come in.
[2717] He played a bunch of NBA Jam.
[2718] He loved it.
[2719] It's handsome.
[2720] I love this shirt.
[2721] So Pinball FX 2.
[2722] Pretty sure that's going to come out this week.
[2723] Yeah, that's got pushed back before, but they pushed it back to this date, and they have since confirmed that, yes, it is coming.
[2724] So pretty sure about that, and that's free, but that's kind of almost like a platform thing.
[2725] Basically, it's the new game room.
[2726] Oh, no. It's a free download, and you can go buy separate tables.
[2727] Your tables from Pinball FX 1 will import into it.
[2728] Does that mean we have to start doing weekly features on Pinball FX?
[2729] I don't think they'll have a table a week.
[2730] Okay.
[2731] Good.
[2732] But they have a lot of stuff lined up for that.
[2733] So that's pretty certain.
[2734] Feeling pretty good about Pinball FX 2.
[2735] Maybe is coming out this week.
[2736] 3D Ultra Mini Golf 2.
[2737] So those are the two games that I have seen people from Microsoft say yes, they're coming out.
[2738] Okay.
[2739] Bloody Good Time.
[2740] What?
[2741] Published by Ubisoft.
[2742] Oh, is that the source engine?
[2743] Developed by the guys who made the ship.
[2744] Yeah, that's the source engine game, right?
[2745] Apparently, that developer, since that game was finished, has disintegrated.
[2746] That sucks.
[2747] And so now they're just waiting around.
[2748] Basically, no office, no employees.
[2749] The company is surviving off of...
[2750] the ship residuals and waiting for money from Bloody Good Time to kick in.
[2751] That sucks.
[2752] The ship was pretty well -liked, wasn't it?
[2753] It was.
[2754] I came really close because a lot of people were saying that Assassin's Creed Brotherhood multiplayer was basically the ship.
[2755] I was like, I want to check this out, but it's still like $20.
[2756] I'm like, I'm not paying $20 for that.
[2757] Oh, and that's a part of the problem.
[2758] Yeah, way to go.
[2759] Well, I'll, you know.
[2760] Food off their tables.
[2761] We'll see what happens with this Bloody Good Time.
[2762] Also, in the rumor mill, let's say, Haunted House, a 3D remake of the old 2600 game, Haunted House.
[2763] Wait.
[2764] Apparently it came out on PC and the Wii last month.
[2765] Oh, just rumored that it will be on.
[2766] Apparently it's terrible.
[2767] I see.
[2768] Yeah.
[2769] It's not good.
[2770] Haunted House for the 2600 is not an especially great game either.
[2771] This kind of looks like just a pretty straight.
[2772] Remake.
[2773] Eyeballs, man. Kind of.
[2774] There are parts of that game where all you see are eyeballs.
[2775] There you go.
[2776] That's all I need.
[2777] And then there's a Hydro Thunder pack coming out.
[2778] I believe that that will come out.
[2779] Hydro Thunder Hurricane Tempest pack.
[2780] Three brand new racing environments.
[2781] Two expert class rocket powered speed boats.
[2782] A slew of new skins.
[2783] A new championship ringmaster and gauntlet events.
[2784] Are there Game Room releases?
[2785] Do you think they'll release anything this week?
[2786] No. I think they still have stuff in Pac -10 that has been downloaded to people's machines that just need to go on sale.
[2787] I think.
[2788] Let's talk to the guy.
[2789] We'll find the team.
[2790] There's got to be someone on the Microsoft side that does something with Game Room.
[2791] We should figure out who that is.
[2792] No one will let us talk to them.
[2793] Yeah, you're right.
[2794] Those guys don't want to talk to us already, and then the people who are the gatekeepers really don't want to let us talk to them.
[2795] They want to talk.
[2796] We honored Game Room's legacy here.
[2797] We also kind of talk a lot of shit about Game Room.
[2798] We're also the only people talking about Game Room, period.
[2799] Whatever.
[2800] If you read my Game Room screenplay, it is amazing.
[2801] I think it's a little too much.
[2802] I don't know.
[2803] The religious overtones are a little heavy, I thought.
[2804] All of your weird Jesus metaphors, I don't know.
[2805] They seem out of place.
[2806] That rape scene really was uncomfortable.
[2807] I didn't care for that at all.
[2808] It's supposed to be uncomfortable.
[2809] That's the point.
[2810] That's why it takes place in the heavy metal room.
[2811] Did you watch the new cut?
[2812] I only saw the Sundance cut.
[2813] In the new one, he just rapes.
[2814] The religious stuff and the rape stuff comes together at the end.
[2815] It all makes sense.
[2816] It all makes sense.
[2817] Also, there's that Red Dead Redemption Zombies Undead Nightmare.
[2818] It's supposed to be coming out this week, but I've heard no one talking about it.
[2819] Yeah, it's out this week.
[2820] I want to check that out.
[2821] Ready to go back in?
[2822] I need a reason to put that game back in.
[2823] Game of the Year is coming up.
[2824] We've got to start remembering stuff.
[2825] Remember Mass Effect 2?
[2826] I do.
[2827] I remember Mass Effect 2.
[2828] End of list.
[2829] Whatever.
[2830] I made that list about a month ago of like, all right.
[2831] We're getting into this holiday shit, and a lot of good games came out already.
[2832] I'm ready.
[2833] 2010's 2009 game of the year is Borderlands.
[2834] It's done.
[2835] List complete.
[2836] Can't start having this conversation now.
[2837] Jeff, tell me about Nintendo downloads.
[2838] Borderlands.
[2839] Borderlands.
[2840] Brad, tell me about your itchy ears.
[2841] Oh, I hate these headphones.
[2842] I hate headphones.
[2843] Period.
[2844] They're all terrible.
[2845] These ones are kind of small.
[2846] I agree.
[2847] Starting with WiiWare.
[2848] WiiWare.
[2849] Bit
